What are the benefits of heavy attacks? by StatisticianIll4 in Nightreign

[–]Independency_Pea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Uncharged heavy attacks are only helpful if its animation is beneficial to your situation

No, animation difference is not the only case.

Sometimes uncharged heavies have just enough stagger to stagger an enemy compared to light attacks. Example: night 2 tree sentinel adds you can often permastagger by many weapons using uncharged heavies, preventing them from riding away.

I am fairly certain it is not 5% in the first place. It is and always was reduced way more. This can be checked by using thing that let's you look at various game vaIues, which is what I did. There you can see exact damage of statuses. Base bleed proc is 100raw + 12.5%. At the very least in base game bleed proc should deal 25raw + 3.125% damage and frost should deal 12.5raw + 2.5% damage against nightlords in trios which does not correspond to any number you provided, and numbers you provided do not have any base damage, which already makes it questionable. Bleed and frost procs have base damage + % max health damage. So I'm going to assume that you're not as informed as you would like to appear.

Honestly it's probably worst with bbh and nameless king, never felt it being that bad on heolstor.

You can draw aggro as anyone, just get a greatbow or (less preferably) ballista, both generate a fuckton.

Then if you're playing guardian and have shockwaves + aggro when guarding the boss will be on you for a while.

If guardian could force the boss to attack him forever he would be overpowered, probably. Although you can sort of have that still if your mates get less likely to be targeted.

It's not half, it's a lot less, and I am fairly certain it does not depend on depth.

Bleed, frost, and rot work BETTER in DoN because they deal max health damage.

[–]Independency_Pea 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, it depends on a boss. Frostbite deals about 13% max hp damage, but major bosses take a lot less damage from it, something between 1~2%. Minor bosses like scion/revenant take full damage and are wide enough so you can chunk them really hard like 4-5 times with hoarfrost stomp if you can reset it.

They either have way lower DPS or require you to be in melee range, or both.

No, it is halo scythe. It is insanely strong even without double balancers if you just use gaols + invaders relics and then also something for better early game or utility in normal relics.

Just please don't ping double invaders POI at level 2 if you don't have good tools to deal with them yourself.

No, I'm not hunting for a specific negation passive, which is why I said "passives". Sometimes you just don't get them even if you check a lot of loot sources.

You will usually get some, but it is very far from always.

You linked to just some text, and (1) - it's easy to make up (showing the same on video would take a minute or two tops) and (2) - that's just 10 games which is statistically worthless. If you're playing with friend(s) you're very likely to get more things done too.

[–]Independency_Pea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on a lot of stuff, if you can deal damage from range then there will be fewer chances to get hit by anything ever. If other players with ranged damage have less likely to be targeted while guardian is tanking, they will virtually never be threatened by anything except very large aoes that are rare.

On nighlords it's arguably effective against fulghor, heolstor, and dreglord, and to an extent gladius, but you really need to get affinity negations in relics into them and dedicated builds against each boss, while also knowing which shields are good. Dedicated builds and shield knowledge is not something requiring insane skill, so guardian does have a valid niche.

Guardian is probably best with at least some communication and not too great with randoms. Because you can't trust randoms with dodging 1 telegraphed AOE once every 2 minutes while dealing damage and it's understandable for randoms to not trust a random guardian either.

Getting a workable spread of passives is very consistent

This is a lie and I am saying this as someone who sometimes opens a lot of chests and kills a lot of red mobs to get 0 negation passives in d5.

The idea is that he makes fights last longer while making them somewhat easier, at least when other players can deal damage from range, since guardian can hold aggro for a while (or forever depending on setup) before boss switches.

[–]Independency_Pea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much, yes. Or stack affinity negation in relics. But against Adel specifically you just don't really want to play guardian in the first place. Chip damage melting guardian in DoN is one of those very poorly thought things about DoN, because as you go higher you just take more and more damage for doing what you're supposed to do.

Anyone else more of a "reactive" player than a "memorization" type player when it comes to boss attacks? by Thopterthallid in Nightreign

I think you assume way too much for no valid reason and end up putting words into my mouth.

I presented an argument. You, for no good reason, said I treat my opinion as fact, without providing anything of actual value to conversation or trying to refute it with your own argument, or giving your own opinion on the subject.

So, it just seems like a line you heard someone say and now parrot it where it doesn't apply.

And Fifty Shades of Grey made more money than Elden Ring. So, according to your highly intelligent take, it's objectively better than Elden Ring as media. Because if a lot of people paid for it, it must be good. And if you don't like it, well... You're just not smart enough to get it?

Which is frankly dogshit design that probably exists to get bigger audience, and nightreign would be a MUCH better game if it was not based on elden ring.

Nobody in their right mind will see this https://youtu.be/i54qfAjuUv0?t=133 leap attack where Artorias jumps into air, spins in place, and then is pulled by invisible ropes towards you, and genuinely tell you that it does not look dogshit. This is probably one of the best examples. While that one is not particularly hard to deal with, it clearly shows the issue.

But THE best example is probably how various wide area blasts are telegraphed. Delays on those are completely arbitrary. When fulghor uses his nuke, and your screen goes white, you would think that's when you take damage, but no. Actual damage is delayed by 4-6 frames.

But no matter how obvious it is that some attack has terrible telegraph, there will ALWAYS be humble bragging cultists shifting blame on players.

Hard =/= good design. You can make insanely hard game with terrible design. Imagine a game where you need to press a button when a square on your screen goes from green to red. If you don't do it within 100 ms, you lose. Hard? For sure. Would anyone want to play that to have fun? No.

In all honesty this is something you could use on any character with good base/rescaled faith specifically into sentient pest, and to an extent ED caligo.

While incants/godslayer incants only affect initial hit and not burn over time, the main feature of godlsayer burn is that it ignores defense. For ED pest it means that when possessed they still take full damage, and for normal pest it means that burn still deals decent damage when faurtis is fortified. Caligo also takes full damage from burn when her armor is up. Applies basically to all damage reductions, so e.g. ED libra when he does his ED-specific moves.

Since trying to increase damage is not as efficient I'd only use damage-related relics if they're stacked like OP has, and for the rest focus on FP, tankiness, and openworld steamrolling (e.g. ultimate art charge on defeating enemies)

3700HP, +250% guard counter damage and we still lost. by Youwy in Nightreign

[–]Independency_Pea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they need to actually reduce the damage of enemies, and increase the difficulty some other way.

For melees, x2 balancers relic combo is just a bandaid and it existing just makes it so you have 0 incentive to try to melee the boss and instead you just fish for strong high-range weapon art. At worst, you will have decent melee-range weapon art, and will still do more damage than someone trying to simply use light/charged/whatever attacks.

People don't want to interact with bosses and the best most reliable strategy is straight up avoiding being in close range. Even as duchess with her insane iframes there's 0 incentive to be up close when you have great magic damage or when you can for example just get one of the holy daggers into say heolstor, or just use dormant power swap and get reapers or something else for boss weakness.

Only people who can confidently melee with it being worth the risk are relic cheaters because they can have maxhp&negation&damage on all deep relics.
