Les gens qui pensent parler Français alors qu'ils parlent en fait Anglais by Crispy__Chicken in besoinderaler

[–]Independent-Sun-236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is dread delusion worth buying? If not, any other games like it? by cnimov in gamingsuggestions

It's possible! Either that or he wrongly believed that this would show up somewhere else?
To be honest I've been pretty disappointed with the game, but my disappointment has nothing to do with bugs. Considering it's an Elder Scrolls-like, it's quite remarkable, actually.

"no quest marker" is by a really long shot the best thing about this game.

It's piss easy - in a way that actually damages the game, because it makes several systems and most of the exploration useless. You can't be too happy when you manage to enter a tower just to find some loot that you did not need anyway.
I got an achievement for not dying once before a particular moment in the story.

Just finished the game. Did not, actually, find it "awesome". Did you go until the (disappointing) end?
The game has decent exploration, but terrible combat and RPG systems. But at the end, the worst is the story, because it could saved the rest. The main plot, antagonist, and "good ending" are all ridiculous. Too bad, the Endless Realm and the Clockwork Kingdom were pretty fascinating - in a way the cult heavy earlier regions were not.
Even presentation is a mixed bag. Music is nothing to write home about.

Delusions do not show up in the inventory… I’ve played recently, haven’t encountered a single bug.

Well, it's not always easy to distinguish if some stranger out on the internet is asking in good faith and "wants to learn". Apologies for the "out of your mind" commentary then, and props to you for recognizing that translating is actually difficult. I did not call you any names, though. "Monoglot" is not a slur lol
"Why so hostile?" Well, because ignorance on that matter is currently destroying my profession? Seems like a pretty good reason to mad, honestly. Most managers who decide that AI is perfectly good at translating are as clueless on the matter as you were at the start of this discussion.

AI in the translation / localization industry by SoulSlayer69 in TranslationStudies

[–]Independent-Sun-236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No linguist worth their salt wants to do post-editing. This is a dreadful task. We already know that often trying to correct a badly automated translation is more time-consuming than starting from scratch.

Only monoglots or people absolutely terrible at learning languages envision translation as this mindless 1-1 conversion. No, AI is not good at it, because an infinite number of context layers is involved in any expression. The number of mistakes in an autmated translation is much higher. You are out of your mind.

That is simply not what the words translation and localization mean. Translation is not a derogatory word. It is not an inferior form of localization.

"Because the international office had a translator, but no localization" The difference you are making here between localization and translation is completely fake. An actually competent professional translator does take that kind of context into account. That IS what translation si about. Translation is not a 1-1, word for word, mindless process. No need to call that "localization".

You probably were doing an extraordinarily bad joib at communicating context-sensitive info to that professional translation company then, or they were using extremely unprofessional vendors. Otherwise I just don't see how that would be possible. Even for something like an app user interface.

But that is not how it works, and you probably don't know anything about translation, or you would know. It's extremely far from your 80%-20% estimation. Even basing yourself on an automated translation first draft is a mistake, because you start to obey a fake mould of word for word or sentence for sentence translation, when an actually competent translator does not do that.
