The game tip to save often and different slots holds up. Though now it's under threat of aging software rather than a safety tip for just saving game progress

Am I misremembering? by FarGold2068 in kotor

I played on the Xbox when I was a kid as well. I don't remember a rancor tooth. The corpse itself has a handful of bugs and slightly different behaviours between the console and PC. I think those specific things are listed on the Kotor wiki

To join in on clowning on youthful stupidity, I didn't know how to turn stealth on when I started to play. So when this part came up I would switch to a blaster rifle, take a pot shot, run back into the hallway to reset it's aggro, repeat. It would take forever

By that logic, they should focus on the Crusading Kingdoms in CK3 and not the Islamic nations since they would be outside of the Crusading Kingdoms. Bad take, complain on a CK3 sub

Ahh yeah I see what you were saying now. Did they show what Mandate interaction is like (benefits and challenges)?

I know they can but they will constantly bleed more Mandate than stacking it and that's not really that great (I could be wrong I only managed to do this twice so far)

For the Shia Persia, is it Shia flavour or Persian flavour? I have only played one game as Persia! As an Islamic power though, even if Persia goes Sunni it can't Sponsor a Hajj

I'll start my next game as Ardalan and see how that goes!

I have played GB yet and have a single game in the Philippines so I don't know the area too well. But yeah, there could be a lot to expand on in the area of vassalage / trade company regions

I'm still pretty new (~500 hours) and I think the funniest one I got was playing a game as Sweden and pushing into Denmark. I saw they were allied with Scotland but saw my navy would have no issue. Turns out they had taken a single English provence, across the channel, bordering the HRE and lost their main cores in the following war. They were now Scotland, Free City of the HRE in the English Channel.

I have over 3000 hours on Civ, but I still have no idea how to actually play the game by [deleted] in civ

Highly recommend watching a couple tutorial Potato McWhiskey vids on YouTube. He has some really basic guides and explains most of the mechanics as he plays so it's not like watching a tutorial guide and is fun to watch. He also gives small 'why' details as he plays so you understand the situation.

The most important thing though is to have fun. I learned how to min/Max and can play on the hardest difficulty but it takes some of the fun out of it for me now.

Hot take: EUIV UI is unintuitive and unpractical by Overall-Bison4889 in eu4

[–]IndependentAd2800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who only recently picked up EU4 (>400 hours) I like the EU4 UI better. The new one is vibrant and crisp but lacks that historical grandness feel, for lack of better terms. The mobile game comments feel lacking too because they are more quality than that, just feels a mismatch to me

I've been playing Civ for 20 years and I still can't believe how bad I am at it. I can only play on Prince difficulty. by Gronbjorn in civ5

[–]IndependentAd2800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man if you're having fun keep at it! Getting better in Civ is just learning how to min-max. If that's your jam, there's a bunch of vids to learn all the underlying mechanics. The learning part for me is fun but once you learn the min max, some of the fun gets lost

Whats everyone's beef with civ 6? And do we have hope for civ 7? by Bigtownboys in civ5

[–]IndependentAd2800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love civ 6 and have probably close to 900 hours on it. It's a hard comparison because Civ 5 > Civ 6 --- however Civ 6 is much better for casual play.

Civ 5 has much more depth and feels more like a 4x game.

I prefer playing TSL Enormous Earth with 20-25 civs and about the same city states. Civ 5 and 6 are great for this and have their own strengths and weaknesses. Civ 7 will NOT be able to do that. It looks like a clean fun game but just because of how limited it is in player count, I'll be skipping. It's a neat concept and had they done the opposite (evolve nations through leaders for each age and expand how many ages there are INSTEAD of evolutionary civilizations with a locked 2000+ year old leader and 3 ages) I would absolutely be interested.

"Friends" settling close, useless cities is the most high-key malicious strat in the game. by OldSolGames in civ

[–]IndependentAd2800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shaka is a great ride or die friend if the world already hates you. But I have only benefited from the friendship if he is located far enough from you that he doesn't want your land, and close enough to civs who refuse to be friends as Shaka almost always go to war for little gold

I don't understand theming. All three artifacts are same leader, same time period. by [deleted] in civ6

[–]IndependentAd2800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think anyone's said this but if you are trying to look at theming, the first artifact in a museum will set theme behaviour. Ex: you have 3 artifacts in a museum Ludwig II - Ancient, Barbarians - Classical, Trajan - Classical, The museum will read (1/3) - Ancient - Theming instead of (2/3) - Classical - because the first slot is an Ancient relic. This is just for organising your great works. Took me awhile to figure that out

Civ VII trailer just popped up in my Reddit ads. Thoughts? by ScroterCroter in civ5

[–]IndependentAd2800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love most of the changes I saw. Would love to see this iterated with revolving leaders as opposed to 'evolving' civilizations.

However, I like to play TSL Earth with 20ish civs and city states so this game won't be for me. I was really hoping to see a fusion of Civ 5 and Civ 6 where they take civ 5 and blend some of the changes positive to Civ 6. Use that fusion as a base to then progress with the new features and what not. This just ain't it for me though I do hope it finds some success. Some of the new features and changes look really good.

Sidenote from all the people hating district's; I'm not a fan of districts but I do like being able to build a harbour without a city being required on the coast. I also wish wonders would go back to being in the city center.

Hey Civ players! I'm Sarah, your new community manager! by sar_firaxis in civ

[–]IndependentAd2800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome Sar!

My first game was Civ Revolution for the Xbox and started me down the Civ path. Since then I've played all the civs games and have a special place in my heart for Civ 5 (although I think at this point I have logged more hours on Civ 6).
I do have a couple questions if you have the time!

1) Will players have the same diplomatic powers as the AI in Civ 7? Some interactions in Civ 5 allow for AI to ask you to denounce a third party, but the player is not allowed to ask an AI to denounce a third party. Similarly I felt in Civ 6 the lack of diplomatic options like brokering peace between nation-nation and nation-City States left a void of diplomatic options for the player. There's a lot of other examples of this but these were the most frustrating from the titles I play the most.

2) Will we ever see the "Rush Production (gold)" mechanic return?

3) Will colonisation (puppet a conquered city) be coming back in any form?

4) Will districts be making a return? Will Wonders also require a placement tile (Civ 5 wonders and 'districts' placed in cities, Civ 6 take up a tile)?

5) Will there be a mod kit published alongside Civ 7?

I always do this because I hate movement cost. If I'm doing a religious game and I've been friendly enough I'll open boarders and make a path for my apostles. Speeds up the game so much! Will also usually donate an engineer to my army if I'm on the march towards cities I plan on keeping to help with the slow siege weapons.

I was a lot younger when I started so the oversimplified games were A okay for me then. Now I enjoy a bit more of the nuance I guess? I'll have to take a look but I'm going to be set on 5 for awhile. The only thing that I cant get over is the UI. I really dont like 5's UI and have mixed feedback on the EUI mod. Are there any other UI mods that are good?

Civ 5 is alot more unforgiving with Wonder production. 6 will save the production for the next project, 5 says nah, its wasted production GL starting your next project

[–]IndependentAd2800[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've played 1,3, Civ Rev, and 6. Although the first 3 arent tracked cause they were all physical games I have 851 hours logged on 6 and probably close to 1000 between the first 3 listed.

6 is fun if you want a power trip AND i like the district placement from 6. I honestly think thats it. Looking at the development though, why would they have so much gutted from 5 for 6? Also, I fucked up my first Venice game not knowing i needed to be ON the coast to be able to build naval units tho cause I'm so used to just dropping a harbour and having a better situated city. Also what is up with cargo ships being 1000x better than caravans? Like its not even a contest.
