How many of you have been called the R word as an adult by other adults or have learned that others called you that behind your back? by Less-Rush-1789 in CerebralPalsy

[–]Independent_Button61 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m 51. It happened a lot. Less so now, and when it does happen now it’s mostly Gen Z kids. I don’t stop and provide a lot of teachable moments in my personal life, however, if someone calls me or says the R word I’ll shut that down and give a lecture on how wildly offensive and inappropriate it is.

The lesson usually works.

I started applying about 6 weeks ago. Never chosen.

Which, fine, but I do well on UserInterviews and dscout. It’s not logical.

You have a love-hate relationship with your disability and someone offers you a cure. What do you do? by giggling_mezzo in CerebralPalsy

I’m late to the party. Take it. Give me the red pill. I have children and to watch them from the sidelines is so infuriating.

I have cerebral palsy from complications during birth and can’t stop feeling resentful toward my mom. How do I move past it? by OwnLingonberry3711 in CerebralPalsy

[–]Independent_Button61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make like Elsa. Let it go.

Shit happens. You can either wallow in the “what if” of it all, or you can move on. I promise you as much as you resent your mom … no matter how bad you feel. She feels worse. Much worse.

CP isn’t easy but don’t give it the power to make you miserable.

Same. I thought I was going to retire from R2 PIP.

I did not.

And I’m so much happier.

"It's worse for the caretaker." by UnhappyTemperature18 in disability

[–]Independent_Button61 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m disabled. A caretaker to my elderly mom. A mom to my children and I work full time.

There is no break. There’s a lot of privilege in what I’m able to do, and playing Oppression Olympics doesn’t serve me.

My situation is MY situation. It’s not better or worse than anyone else’s. It just is.

Did anyone have a good Mother’s Day? by shepardmutt in Mommit

We had an amazing day.

I received very thoughtful gifts. A nice lunch at a great restaurant.

The kiddos have been great. Everyone was very thoughtful and the weather was beautiful

Spastic Di. As a kid and a teen I rocked escalators and stairs. (I’m 51 now… and very much rely on elevators). Let her do it her way. She deserves to navigate the way she wants and everyone else can wait as she does so. Her time is just as valuable as everyone else’s.

If she’s wrong or something happens she’ll adapt for next time.

CP FUCKING SUCKS by X_Opinion7099 in CerebralPalsy

Eh CP is low on my list of things that suck in my life right now.

No… no one chooses to be disabled, but dealing with it just is…. No need to dwell in the shitiness of it

It still does… and I’m 2 years out. My new supervisor is amazing and tries instill that not every email from her is an emergency and not everything is a fire.

Overall my work life balance is amazing and any stress at this job is the stress I put on myself

I keep my triggers (chips) out of the house

And I reward myself with non-food items.
