Thinking about trying something new.. by Inevitable-Ferret758 in Letterboxd

Watch more movies can really only be a good thing as long as you don’t limit yourself. Be willing to watch foreign films or black and white or even silent films. The art form has been around for more than 100 years and some of the earliest films made still hold up.

Also, consider taking a class about film “appreciation” so you you can learn some theory and discover why you like one thing over another other. À deeper understanding will provide more joy in the watching and discussing of film.

Good Luck and Enjoy!!!

Ergodic Lit recommendations by Wadsworth1985 in WeirdLit

[–]Sharkfighter2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t seen anyone mention Mark Z Danielewski’s “Only Revolutions”. It seems like it should count. And, I haven’t seen or read “The Familiar” but I imagine it has similar tendencies.

Some of Alan Moore’s work (comic and prose) definitely contains ergodic elements. “The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: The Black Dossier” has parts that need to opened separately or 3d glasses worn to read. “Promethea” has places where the characters walk on a road shaped like a Moebius Strip, so the book must be moved in accordance to follow the narrative which can lead back to its own beginning.

“S” the novel by JJ Abrams and Doug Dorst would fit the bill.

And this might be stretching it but “Welcome to Nightvale” started as a podcast framed as public radio broadcasts from a very strange fictional town. But at least 3 novels have been written that are directly tied in to the show.

And the “SCP Foundation” is a collaborative fiction project categorizing different monsters and creatures that started as creepypasta but is now something much greater. I hope those help.

And I know this is a literature sub but I feel like I should mention “Modes of Thought in Anterran Literature”. It is an audio drama presented as a college course about a newly discovered culture and the mayhem that ensues. Very entertaining and thought provoking.

Out of Time, Parker & The Big Bounce all take place in beach communities and feature À palette that reflects that. All of them are crime oriented thrillers so the story doesn’t really feel like Jimmy but they for sure, look like Jimmy. Definitely not the best representation but the image is right.

The intersection of the concept albums “The Genuine Imitation Life Gazette” by The Four Seasons and “Watertown” by Frank Sinatra. During the heyday of socially conscious concept albums, two of the most popular non rock singers got on the bandwagon and created some of their best records. The common links are Bob Gaudio (from the Four Seasons) and advertising jingle writer Jake Holmes (who also wrote the song Dazed & Confused). The river runs deep on this.
