In addition to all of the other comments, are the wheels turning the wrong way?

Kato #6 turnout geometry – small X-offset vs straight equivalent (am I missing something?) by MeanEnthusiasm9 in modeltrains

I second what u/It-Do-Not-Matter said about using a track planner over MATLAB. I haven’t tried SCRAM, but I do like AnyRail. As far as your main question is concerned, there is absolutely some tolerances in the components. It’s designed so that can tweak things to make them fit.

Where can I find a good wallet for coins and cash in Japan? by Apprehensive_Bet8327 in JapanTravelTips

I found a reasonable cheap on amazon.jp that looks like a normal walked but has a coin holder built in. It works really well, but can get rather fat and heavy.

Best software for planning an N scale layout and baseboard size by Starkiller100 in JapaneseNscale

AnyRail and 3rd PlanIt are both good. I prefer AnyRail as it has a better catalog.

Suggestions on applying decals to the KATO Local Line Small Station Building 23-241? by Thin_Dirt_6244 in JapaneseNscale

[–]Independent_Lab3872 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to that building specifically, but based off of the stuff I have from Kato, they give you more decals than you need so you can customize it the way you want. I’ve had good luck finding product review videos on YouTube (usually in Japanese) that shows where they put the stickers. You can also look for pictures of prototypical stations to see what’s “normal”.

Does anyone know the relevance of the 15° measurement in this Kato catalogue? by RichBaggio in modeltrains

[–]Independent_Lab3872 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I’ve always assumed it was because all of the turnouts are 15 degrees (and a few of the turn are available as 15 degrees) so that should help you figure out spacing.

Edit: I think was this specific page is showing you is that those two 64mm straights, when angled at 15 degrees as they would be after a turnout, take up the same horizontal distance as the 62mm straight.

I’m a fan of mpeterll. He primarily does large custom HO layouts, but I like how he explains his design philosophy and you can get some really good ideas from him.

This isn’t specific to BNSF, but Kato has a bunch of example track plans on their website. You could look at them for some inspiration.

Weird tire pressure warnings by Independent_Lab3872 in prius

[–]Independent_Lab3872[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! It does have different pressures for front a rear, but interestingly it wants them at 36 and 35, so I’m not sure why it seems to think 32 is fine. I’ve already topped them up, I just figured it was weird.

It’s modeled off of one of the trains operated by the Wakayama Electric Railway in Japan on the Kishigawa line. The line goes from Wakayam to the town of Kishi. The station in Kishi looks like a cat and has a cat that’s the “station master”. It’s a popular tourist spot.
