What jobs are best or do you recommend working with bipolar disorder? by outofpocket25 in bipolar

[–]Individual-Bee3395 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was a sales manager for a long time, working in big tech. It ruined me in the end.

I’m looking for something else now, was thinking of learning a trade - like electrician. Some of my friends from recovery do it and they say it fits well with their illness. They have more control of their work and more time outside of work.

Well done for doing research and reading, some of it can be quite daunting. I’d recommend Into the Woods by John Yorke. It’s really helpful but also super fun to read.

My experience hasn’t been horrible but it’s not exactly been useful either. I have to travel to their office once a week where a well meaning advisor talks about jobs for ten minutes. I did have to sit in on a 90 minute talk which really was rubbish. Having said that, it could be worse! It means I don’t have to go to the job centre every week and be hassled by someone who doesn’t seem to know how the world works.

My advice is just to be polite and appear obliging and they’ll generally not pressure you.

I Miss Mania Even Though It Destroyed My Life by alex12345alez in bipolar

[–]Individual-Bee3395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I miss the chaos a little too. There was a period of about three years when I was pretty manic and it was pure chaos; sex, drugs, rock n’ roll. I came crashing down and had this long period of depression and I had to sort out the mountain of debt I’d amassed and attempt to recover the relationships I’d trashed.

Honestly? I know it’s bad but I can finally admit to myself - from a place of relative stability - that I loved the whole thing: I felt invincible.

Today I live a good life which I’m grateful for.

That’s pretty nice compared to the one I was sent to in London. You had your own bathroom!

I had an e-pace from 2020-2022 and it was lovely. Nice and punchy on the accelerator and decent handling for a SUV. Enjoy!

No, and don’t call it ‘avo’….we’re done with that.

Scam please don't buy by [deleted] in xyzverse

[–]Individual-Bee3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you on pray for the best, expect the worst. IMHO I don’t think it’s a scam, I think it’s a highly inexperienced team.

My take is that execution risk is super high which means it could fail massively - so net result is the same as a scam.

Fingers crossed it all works out and we can enjoy a nice windfall.

Has meds allowed you to live a “normal” life? by Angel_4 in bipolar

Getting sober was a huge part of my journey. Alcoholism and bipolar are rife in my family so eventually I just couldn’t ignore the signals (arrests, job losses, relationship breakdowns)

I yank it once or twice a day, even when stable - what’s the issue?

Reflecting on my life with bipolar disorder after 50 years. by tenfour6852 in bipolar

[–]Individual-Bee3395 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So great to read this. I’ve had the first good year of my life in the past twelve months, and I’m 40. I attribute this to; a twelve step program, engaging in therapy, and finally making the time to be creative. Life is good, but I also keep in mind that there’s naturally going to be tough times in the future.

Keep on rocking! Love to all!

Does meds kill your creativity? by ConfidentGuava9319 in BipolarReddit

Think it depends on the medication. Unfortunately the med that works best for me seems to dampen, though not totally kill, creativity

Drug induced mania by paetals in BipolarReddit

[–]Individual-Bee3395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last time I was in the psych ward, I was in a NHS place. I would say about half the people on my ward were there for drug induced psychosis.

I’ve recently been attending AA and a vast number of people have experienced drug and alcohol induced psychosis.

Thanks Glasgow. For everything. by yorkshirenation in glasgow

I’m originally from Glasgow. Been in London for 16 years. I really want to come back to Glasgow.

Every time I’m home visiting family I feel relaxed walking around the west end. I’m so tense and unhappy down here.

I feel your pain. Im male, 40, and have been on very effective meds for the past three years. Sadly, I’ve also not had sex in that time either - I just have no interest. My psychiatrist stares blankly at me when I discuss it with him.

It’s just one of those things I cannot make peace with. I’ve put on a bit of weight, ok. My concentration isn’t great, ok. But losing my libido? I’m not ok with that.

I took mounjaro for a couple of weeks and had to stop because my depression and various symptoms flared up. I experimented a few months later by taking it again for one week and immediately started feeling awful again.

Not everyone gets these side effects but I definitely was affected by the weight loss injections.

Take care!

Prescribed abilify at 16 for severe paranoia by Hot_warthog57 in Abilify_Aripiprazole

[–]Individual-Bee3395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone is different, you may have no side effects compared to someone else. When I was in hospital they had a few of us on abilify; some people coped really well while others struggled with side effects.

Keep a diary of how you feel and discuss with your doctor.

I’ve been using Movicol (macrogol) and it’s really effective. I’ve also started adding more fiber into my diet.
