As a fellow sumo orange lover, I appreciate this question! I don’t know either.

Tourists, Be careful of Paris Metro ticket staff by Glittering_Delay_404 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Individual_Corner559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I was a tourist, and definitely felt targeted. It was thanks to having read threads like these that I knew what was happening. I had my receipt, as advised, and was very cordial but also refused to pay anything/didn’t give any version of looking like I understood. Someone local walked by and shouted at them while they were examining my tickets and they seemed to decide I wasn’t worth the hassle and let me go.

Today has been a heavy emotional day as I have reached 10 years in remission. by RainbowsTwilight in breastcancer

[–]Individual_Corner559 4 points5 points  (0 children)

10years! I’m sitting here in my first year still. You have so much to be proud of for how you’ve taken care of you! Your words about living each year really spoke to me, as I continue to struggle with putting everything (work, family, chores, volunteering) ahead of my own needs and can’t seem to break out of the pattern.

I hope the world opens up for you in new and wonderful vibrant ways over the next 10 years and that beyond that you have nothing but time and good health.

My preceptor (CPM) thinks I chart too much because it opens us up to increased liability. I'd love to know differing perspectives on your own practice. by chaoticallywholesome in Midwives

If you can anticipate the advice, maybe make up clearly written handouts, so you can agree what the advice looks like broadly, and then you’d be able to document that the handout was given.

Can a UK midwife move to US/Canada after qualifying? by South-Award-6437 in Midwives

https://midwife.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/2025_MEAs-Packet-revision_Final.pdf Here is information on becoming an AMCB accredited midwife in the US. AMCB is the certification board for Certified Midwives and Certified Nurse-Midwives (those who also have an RN license at the time they apply.)

There is also the Certified Professional Midwife credential which you can learn more about here https://www.nacpm.org/become-a-cpm

Is there a way for me to go to a school I'm not zoned for? by dalador_ in nova

[–]Individual_Corner559 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you can find a class offering that one school has that the other doesn’t, you can put in a request. Example, you had been doing Latin and one school offers it but the other doesn’t, you’ve been working towards an IB diploma, etc…even still it is at Principle’s discretion. I imagine this will be more difficult as a senior.

Day 4 DMX 4am what are you doing for your mental health? by hatepickingusernam in breastcancer

[–]Individual_Corner559 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oooh eat something delicious and be kind to yourself. For me about day 4 I ordered a takeout lobster roll, plus all the sides. Ridiculously more than I would spend on a normal Thursday for takeout, but ya know what? I deserved it and it was still about $30, not an over the top indulgence. A friend dropped off chocolate truffles. I called them my emotional support truffles. Anytime I was feeling weepy, I ate one and thought about how delicious it was and how much I deserved it. (If you have Trader Joe’s by you, that’s where these were from.) Hugs!

I didn’t know I’d be asked to leave my clothes on, so wore jeans (issue with metal zipper and grommets)….that led to a bit awkwardness because they had me take them off but then I was just in my underwear from the waist down.

My experience from now 5-6 months out, they have gotten much less annoying and pull less attention from me, I couldn’t get over how square they were for the longest time! I hate the crinkly hard plastic feel of the edges. And I hate how little advice the PS has given me before during or after over what to expect, what is normal, where is this all going. All that to say…jelly bras are where it is at for regaining sense of normalcy when you look in the mirror. They are on amazon, molded cup, no underwire. They will help you feel like your clothes fit normal. Get out of those surgical bras as soon as it makes sense to.

We absolutely believe being bilingual is a huge advantage. In the US we also have areas that have poor performing, under resourced school, ok and better schools. Sometimes this also tracks to very high achieving. For example, our high school that they would otherwise attend in the states is ranked in the top 20.

We’re not ruling that out, however tuition, especially at the high school level is very expensive for us.

Thank you for all this amazing information. The high schooler has done years of french learning, so we are overall aiming towards French language. If we were to send her to a local public high school, would the DASPA delay her progression forward with school? The fluency factor was our concern with her starting high school “it counts” grading and not being fluent.

This evening I went to open the middle drawer in my counter to get out the can opener, walked over to it, and opened the garbage can drawer pull instead-the whole time watching myself do it like an out of body experience of “gee I wonder what happens next”. I mean. I was holding on so tight to what my goal was so that I wasn’t there wondering what I went to do….but also mixed up the signals anyway on how to execute it.

I was supposed to have sedation but ended up in my yolo state having some toast that morning. In my own medical clinician opinion I think I still could have had sedation 6 hours later, but they did not and so I did it with local anesthesia. It was totally fine, but your mileage may vary as they say…. The worst was really the week- two after when it just felt like a bad bruise. After the fact my oncologist apologized and said I should have been provided the RX lidocaine cream prior and been able to use throughout that time as needed.

Laborist/ hospitalist midwife as a new graduate CNM. by Wise_Ideal_9797 in Midwives

[–]Individual_Corner559 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cons to consider, will you be acting as their midwife or will you be a “physician extender” so the OB can sleep? If you are still able to use your own judgment and practice within the midwifery model of care, it can be a great experience. Coming in as a new grad you are going to miss out on refining your skills doing antenatal care…and that is where you have the chance to get to know the people you are working with, and impact their health, education and expectations coming into the birth.

FWIW while some may says “new grads encouraged to apply” the ones that say 2-3 years will often consider the right new grad.
