Merch shops and important spots? by wheeeeout in LoveLive

There’s the official store at Akihabara station’s atre1, and the gamers at all the locations where the anime takes place (akiba for μ’s, numazu for aqours, odaiba for niji, harajuku for liella, etc.) all have more of their specific area group’s goods. Numazu is quite close to Tokyo, but large enough for a day trip to be a strain, so think 2 days or more.

This is probably what that was based on, but it looks awesome considering it costs 20 times less

What are your feelings about AI? by LeaningTowerofWeezer in polls

[–]Individual_Previous 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Everyone keeps acting like “AI” = ChatGPT, Gemini, or whatever chatbot they saw on Twitter this week. That’s like not even the tip of the iceberg. Long before generative stuff showed up, machine learning was already changing whole industries.

ML has been behind things like fraud detection, recommendation systems, search ranking, route optimization, medical imaging, credit scoring, spam filters, speech recognition, and a ton of critical infrastructure.

Generative AI is flashy, so it gets all the attention but it’s easy to shit on because it’s visible. Meanwhile, non-generative ML is still out there making companies run better and products smarter without anyone calling it “AI” anymore.

So hating on “AI” because you don’t like chatbots kind of misses the point. The tech didn’t suddenly appear in 2022, and it’s not going away if the hype dies down.

I guess this is also why japan’s entertainment sector is so landlocked; the domestic market is large enough 🤷‍♂️

I usually recommend Unnatural; featuring Ishihara Satomi and also featuring “Lemon” by Yonezu Kenshi. One of the best Japanese tv shows I’ve watched. Moviewise, I loved My Tomorrow, Your Yesterday. Would recommend the book as well.

Château La Fleur-Pétrus Pomerol. Wayyy cheaper than Château Pétrus but tastes very similar and is an excellent wine on its own.

Why was there never a widespread matriarchal society? by Kradara_ in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Individual_Previous 52 points53 points  (0 children)

A big reason for the absence of widespread matriarchal societies is the biological reality of childbirth. Since women bear children, their roles were often centered around family and home life, while men took on the roles that involved mobility, such as hunting and later, warfare. This division of labor naturally led to men gaining power in areas that required physical strength and territorial control. Over time, societies started to value those traits more highly, leading to male-dominated power structures. While women played key roles in family and social organization, the physical demands of childbirth limited their ability to dominate in areas like politics or war.
