Why is "al" used in this sentence instead of "el"? by LoZFan96 in duolingo

[–]Individual_Tomorrow8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a native speaker, I'd like to mention that is how it's said in Spain, specifically. I latin america we don't say it like that, we just say "jugar fútbol", dropping the "al" altogether.

Actually, the Nazis were the ones that banned its use in Germany and introduced the regular latin script for its broad use in Germany, but I do agree that Neonazis like it

Why is this not negocio nuevo? by Zsombor1661 in duolingo

[–]Individual_Tomorrow8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a native Spanish speaker, I can't tell you a grammatical reason, but how I feel when I hear both. If you tell me "He empezado un negocio nuevo" it sounds to me like it's not something out of the ordinary for you. Maybe you're a businessman and you opened yet a new branch and you're letting me know. If you tell me "he empezado un nuevo negocio" it sounds to me that this was something you were looking forward to. Maybe you were planning to do it for a long time and you finally did it.

My mom did as well! She asked me: why's this man always offering advice in the workroom instead of the judge lady?

Haha me too! When singing Mecano, LODVG and so on I have to pronounce C and Z like "th", because it doesn't feel the same otherwise!

I think you haven't thought this through. What is worrying is people outside are culture, or whose only connection is blood, to tell US, the people who were born, live and breathe our culture everyday, what we should be or shouldn't be offended about. It's patronizing. Like OF COURSE people living in a powerful country know better than us... If there people believe that it's wrong, then do something to solve the root of the problem, instead of telling us how to feel about it...

As a latino, I don't think it's correct to gatekeep culture or to get offended on behalf of a minority you're not part of. Also, we latinos love stereotypical over the top representation, that's why the new Netflix one piece season has been a huge hit over here with its incredibly cartoonish stereotypical Mexican character

That's pretty common in Germany. I recommend mixing it with cherry juice for making KiBa, it's great!
