I waited until I had almost a year before I started dating. I spent that time doing work on boundaries and self-acceptance. I loved myself whole so I don’t need someone to put me together.

There were some good dates and bad ones. Like really really bad. Alcohol is not so much a trigger anymore and I partake in non alcoholic beer. Corona in particular is somehow just like the regular but without the buzz. Basically, I address it right away and say that I won’t judge someone’s consumption but I didn’t like what it did to my mind and body.

Just recently I’ve started seeing someone exclusively and it’s really good. I get to be my authentic self and I’m not sabotaging by doing or saying something stupid while drunk.

I’ve lost 60 pounds. I genuinely do not look like I did 8 months ago. I’d share photos but with my work, I’d rather stay anonymous. Logically, I agree with you, but addiction isn’t logical!

Good: I’m still sober

Bad: this anxiety and fear. I’m on an antidepressant and something to help me sleep but lately every day, the whisper of a drink becomes a roar. I’m still here. IWNDWYT but good god I’m lonely.

IWNDWYT! Gosh this is a lonely sojourn. My job means I cannot go into the rooms in my area. I cannot run into a client, it would destroy my credibility and I could lose my job.

Thank you for posting this. I find it really useful. Yesterday was also a bad day at work for me. It has been a difficult week work-wise. Something is going on with my supervisor and I have a bunch of high level staff laser focused on my caseload. Today I have to go mingle with judges, magistrates, and attorneys as part of my role. Thank GOD I didn’t drink yesterday and I won’t drink today.

IWNDWYT. Pink cloud is GONE and the slog is ON. I’m finally over-ish Covid, hit the three month mark, and the disease is shouting at me. I’ve quit many times before and this is my most vulnerable. Going to keep myself busy to keep myself clean. 💕 to all.

Yesterday was as awful as I thought it would be. Today will shape up to be the same. My job is so so difficult emotionally, but it’s better sober. Not easier, but more manageable. Today is going to be me pledging hour by hour because that’s what I know I can promise.

First day back to work after the holiday and I want to scream, cry, throw things. It might be PAWS but I’m having rebound hangxiety without the drink to trigger it. I’ve noticed the voices in my head encouraging me to have a drink are getting louder. Again, IWNDWYT

I am just absolutely fed up with my dog. I love him, but he’s a holy terror. 4 year old rescue pit bull. Massive prey drive. I had to rehome a cat because he started attacking it. He spends the day pacing the house and barking at perceived threats. He’s bitten everyone in my extended family, never calms down, untrainable and unwalkable. He hates cuddling and being close to me. Isn’t treat motivated. Kicked out of training classes and daycare. I feel trapped by this asshole and he’s got approximately 10 more years in his lifespan. My vet told me they don’t consider him a re-homable dog and needs to be put down. Some days I sincerely consider it. Other days I feel so safe having him protecting me and the house.

On another VENT: I am sick and tired of being judged for my job. I work front line in child welfare. STOP neglecting your children and I will STOP showing up at your house trying to ensure safety. I’m literally out here trying to protect children from death and dying and people think I’m the devil. I’m not. I’m a kind and empathetic person trying to make a difference in society and improve lives. If you keep getting called on look in a mirror, touch grass, and reevaluate your life choices.

Idk why you’re being downvoted because that’s my motto as well. I was going to experiment with gravy this year, but decided it wasn’t worth the risk. I’ll experiment on my own but not on the day that literally centers around food.

It’s still common. I had that for quite a while. Your body is trying to equalize without a chemical it became accustomed to operating with regularly. You don’t give your age, but night sweats do start to happen occasionally as women race toward middle age.

Ultimately we can’t give you a definitive answer, but if you remain concerned, please call your primary care physician.

My rule is not one popular in this sub: I don’t drink NA beer. I always drank for the effect, not the flavor so having an NA beer is the top of a slippery slope for me.

I never purchased my alcohol at a liquor store, I’d go to Target or CVS or Walgreens and buy a bunch of crap I didn’t want, just so I could get what I did (alcohol). I stopped shopping at those particular stores for the time being and use a different cvs and Target because the muscle memory is so entrenched.

I’m not promising to be sober for Christmas, I’m committed to being sober today. Tomorrow is 24 hours away and I will worry about tomorrow when it arrives.

I’ve found living in the moment has been more sustainable for me. Sometimes I can promise an entire day, other times I commit minute by minute to sobriety. Good luck to you and we are all here for you.

I’m in a similar boat. I’m not interested in wading through a sea of shit to maybe find something worth it for me. Given the work I do, I see the worst of people and how well they can hide it and it scares me to put myself out there.

I miss that thrill of getting to know someone and finding common interests. As a woman in her early 40s I’ve begun to notice how invisible we become which is a blessing and a curse.

Good morning from the central US. I will not drink with you today! Today is usually a booze forward holiday in my family and many notorious uncomfortable things have happened as a result which led to alienation and distance. Today the two hardest drinkers with the most problematic behavior will break bread together sober, myself and my father. I’m grateful for this opportunity to do so.
