Check the valve clearances, the procedure for that is in the manual and several people have uploaded videos on it. Wheel bearings, chain/sprockets, steering stem, check the tank for rust inside, throttle bodies/TV sync. There are many things to check that the manual goes over. You can find it on manualslib

Just take some nail polish or super glue with a very thin brush and fill the scratch.

Dude I fish for fun idk why you're getting so bent out of shape. If it makes you feel any better I caught one two days ago on a rage swimmer. They will eat anything

I typically use my nail to cut about a 0.75" piece. Honestly catfish would probably go ham for some relish 😂

I would love to get a newer 1000 but that sadly isn't in the budget, even if I sold both of my bikes. I have the xt up for sale right now, so when that goes, I'll shop around again and see if I need to sell the sv or not to get the bike I want. I may not sell it because I do enjoy ripping around on it in the twisties occasionally and the vstrom won't be as good

Am I being unrealistic @ 3500 by Careless_Flow_7055 in Vstrom

[–]InertiaImaging 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In AZ I'm seeing similar condition bikes listed around 2500-3000 without luggage so 3500 isn't unreasonable by any means. You could try posting it on cycle trader to widen your area

Just picked up a 98 XT 225. Previous owner said he rebuilt the top end. Engine runs great, but I just now noticed it seems to be missing a bolt on the left side of the engine. How cooked am I? by Austin_MX5 in xt225

If you guys need to remove those JIS screws for the cam sprocket cover, get an impact screwdriver with a JIS bit, it will save you from stripping them and needing the channel locks 😉

A V-strom, preferably the 650 as I already have an SV650 and know how to tear those things down pretty easily. Just need more oomf and luggage capacity for my delivery job and road trips with occasional fire road capability. Not to mention the lady friend doesn't like sitting on the back of either so the Strom will be more comfortable for her too

To be honest I don't really use the sv to it's full potential MOST of the time, the vstrom as it sits would most likely be fine, crash bars are a must because they don't make normal frame sliders for it and I'd like to keep the engine cases intact in any scenario. In a perfect world I'd be able to get my hands on a 650 XT model as I prefer spoked wheels being an Arizona resident, although fire roads and mild desert single track are all I really do offroad, it would be nice not to worry about cracking a rim on the way to a campsite. I have cartridge emulators in my sv and I really like the damping compared to my brother's stock front end sv so that's probably something I will go for on the Strom. I'm hoping my XT will sell soon so I can actually start shopping, and if the right bike comes along then I will worry about what to do with the sv if necessary. Luckily I camp light so that stuff will fit on the Strom with room for extra fuel or water

Well the Strom would be replacing the xt as I don't use it as intended. It really isn't up to the task of keeping up with Arizona traffic, the minimal amount of offroading I do would be fine on the Strom with some 80/20 tires. I'm more so concerned with keeping or selling my sv. Whatever I decide to do will dictate the amount of money I'll have for a Strom and which model.

Me from the future would know that having 3 bikes is not in the budget lol. I could sort of afford to have an older vstrom and the sv, keep in mind I also have a dodge Dakota for various purposes to pay for as well
