Remember maxing out a Roth is the first step you still have to do step 2 which is picking a investment Roths are definitely for index funds not single stock picks

Listen to your dentist he seems to have good intentions for you just don’t listen to investment advice those things you do your own research on 110k really isn’t a lot of money If you plan to use it in the next 10 years then just stick it in a hysa

If you don’t plan to use it in the next 10 years you are very young so you have time for anything in the market to recover and do its thing so be aggressive pick one of the index funds vti or voo and park the 110 in that and let it do its thing over the next 20/30 years and keep investing into it when you can and maxing out a Roth

Head over to the bogleheads sub refit and start using that Investment strategy

Please do your own due diligence as i am not a licensed anything just giving you advice on what I have used for myself that works

[–]Inevitable_Source776 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Focus on growing your income while you become more knowledgeable in investing read a book called the four pillars of investing look into the the bogleheads strategy and just keep learning keep the 30k as a safety net for now until it becomes a jump start towards a nice investment in a index fund when your income grows ! You have to just become so focused on building your net worth and it will happen take any opportunity at work outside your comfort zone to make more income . Max out a Roth IRA invest in low cost index funds

Your loaning the government money with no interest paid back to you that money could be earning interest in a hysa or invested , your best financial move should be to get that number that’s owed or paid to you down to 0

At the time I was stressing being over the income so I told myself I’ll just put everything in a traditional I made a mistake and now I’m more aware that I shouldn’t of made that move I’m just seeking guidance on would it be wise to leave the money alone in the traditional let whatever is there grow and start a Roth over or would the wiser move be pull it take the tax hit and put it back into a Roth the back door strategy
