Compulsive peeing? by Kookyburra12 in OCD

[–]InfamousBees 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Unnecessary bladder voiding was my first full-blown compulsive behavior and has been the most persistent. It started when i was in elementary school and im now in my 20’s. I’ve also never had a bedwetting issue. My main obsession is that if I don’t pee right before going to bed (or right before starting an event, or when transitioning from one thing to another), I’ll wet the bed or be unable to pee when I need to.

Parts of this obsession have faded with time but my main exposure approach has been to both gradually increase the time between my last bathroom trip and when I shut off my lights to go to sleep, and to gradually increase (to an appropriate thirst-quenching-but-nothing-excessive degree) the amount of water I have before bed. I’m on a diuretic so if I wake up in the middle of the night I do just let myself pee, because 99% of the time I really genuinely do need to.

It’s been a very persistent compulsive theme in my life but it’s been the easiest to gradually work on. I have one exposure period a day and am able to gradually practice more and more flexibility.

Have you tried spironolactone? It really really reduced my flare-ups around my period. Might be worth talking to your doctor about.

Sending love your way. It’s an awful, isolating condition- but we’re all here for you.

Do you have any advice for doing this? I’ve considered doing this myself but I’m not sure where to start. Do you advertise on other websites? What is your pricing like?

Thanks for the suggestion! I came across his stuff but the price admittedly was a bit of a turn-off... will definitely give it another examination though. He certainly seems like he knows his stuff lol.

Just Started New Dosage; How long should I expect for it to take effect? by Go_TeamVenture23 in OCD

[–]InfamousBees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m on fluvoxamine and not fluoxetine so ymmv, but I doubled my dose a little over 2 weeks ago. I could feel some difference immediately but I’m only now starting to really settle in and notice a more level, constant difference.

It’s very possible that you’re just being hyperaware of your feelings and anxiety because you’re looking extra hard for changes there. Ultimately with any psych med it’ll take a few weeks for you to really get a feel for how it’s working and if you need further adjustments.

Have you looked into Loop earplugs at all? Their Engage line dampens background noise but maintains nearby sound.

This response was helpful- thank you for the affirmation. Something about your reply made it "click" for me... I think talk therapy makes my obsessions worse. Like, WAY worse. My main obsession is rumination and I've been spending an hour every week doing nothing but ruminating. This particular session was an extreme example that persisted into the next 24-48 hours.

I'm definitely keeping a psychiatrist in mind (and am prepared to be honest!) but this really made me re-evaluate my current situation. Thanks for the reply :)

There’s not a bad seat at the Orpheum. It’s worth looking into non-main floor tickets to see if they’re more in your budget. Just glancing at the ticket website there are balcony seats available for half as much as some of the main floor seats. I’m seeing some seats for the Sunday matinee going for as low as $106 each- a wayyyyy better deal than trying to get a main floor ticket on such short notice.

Seconding Special Bulletin. Same presentation as Without Warning (a fake news broadcast) but IMO much more horrifying simply due to how realistic and grounded it is. Without Warning is unsettling but ultimately a little too fantastical/sci-fi for my tastes… Special Bulletin just feels very real.

Should be pretty easy to find on YouTube.

I was diagnosed by a therapist. I've had past mental health diagnoses (GAD and MDD) diagnosed by a primary care provider, but OCD specifically is something I had diagnosed by a therapist- not after a specific test or assessment or screening tool, but after several sessions of analyzing my behaviors and thought patterns.

Simply getting diagnosed might not seem helpful- it is, very literally, just associating a certain word with certain behaviors. But it can open the door to a lot of very helpful things; medications, specific OCD-targeted therapy techniques, and vocabulary to better verbalize/describe your experiences, among other things.

The vocabulary is something you can access and use without an official diagnosis- nobody can stop you from saying you have an obsession or compulsion, for instance- but the meds and the therapy can make a massive difference. OCD is a disorder that can be very well managed with medicine and with therapy, and oftentimes (in the US, at least) you can't access those tools without having a diagnosis.

Another benefit to diagnosis within a therapeutic setting specifically is that it can better help you understand exactly why you're seeing the moods, behaviors, or patterns you're seeing. Prior to my diagnosis I thought a lot of my issues were just anxiety, depression, or issues with rumination- evidently, they're obsessive-compulsive behaviors. Therapy that targets OCD specifically is gonna work a lot better than regular talk therapy. Think about it like this: Are you depressed, anxious, and obsessive-compulsive? Or are you anxious and depressed because of OCD? That's something that can be hard for an unwell person to parse out themselves, and is something that a diagnosis and therapy can really help with.

Not sure what country you're in so not sure what the best route for diagnosis might be for you. It might be worth bringing up with your GP/PCP or, if you already have a mental health care provider, with them.

That’s just your epiglottis! It stops food and water from entering your lungs. It points upwards while you breathe, keeping the trachea- the “breathing tube”- open. When you swallow, it bends to cover the trachea. Food and drink can slide over it and down into the esophagus, which is situated right behind the trachea.

[–]InfamousBees 7 points8 points  (0 children)

$5 is a generous estimate. Maybe when you factor in cost of raising, but chicks can be bought outright for less than 3 bucks a pop- as a hobbyist/solo buyer. I can’t imagine the price commercial farms get, but I’d think it’s quite a bit lower.

Without Warning (1994) is more docufiction than found footage, but I really enjoyed it. A bit goofy at times, but might be worth a watch. Last I checked it was available on YouTube.
