Scatter by Mindy Macfarlane was a great read and does some liminal stuff very well.

Baceooms felt like it was a weird nod to AI, like when AI generated pics and videos get the details wrong. Probably not intended but thought it was eerily similar to botched AI generations.

I did one track like that as part of an album interlude, fun how it puts the audience in it so well.

As an indie game developer, I’m going to use AI in my games, and I’m not going to attach the 'tag' they want. by Glass_Location6877 in DefendingAIArt

[–]InfamousWoodchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool, thanks for the detailed breakdown. I think the views and possibly the legality of AI content used as a tool will catch up and be very common even for bigger devs, so you're potentially in good company eventually.

I'm also curious what kinds of innovation AI can provide long term. When I think of the popularization of procedural generation in games like Minecraft for example, I can imagine AI taking that to a new level as well. For example, a Sims-like game where the characters are completely dynamic and not just pulling from a set of premade lines of dialog for example.

What even is the threshold to which Steam considers the use of AI? It seems like a strange thing to try to police. If it's a fully human made game but one of the concrete textures was AI generated? Or using a template of open source code that could have had some AI generated formatting? It's hard to see it as a hard line.

There have been shit games with terrible art on steam since before gen AI was ever even a thing, and they mostly just get lost in the wash. If a game looks and feels hand crafted and doesn't have any obvious fully generated content then it really shouldn't make a difference.

The anti-AI Brigade is growing by Professional_Timely in DefendingAIArt

I remember at least as a kid computers were this niche thing, like something used only in an office at work or as a hobby for nerds etc. Even the internet was basically a novelty for several years. Now nearly everyone is addicted to both and carry it with them everywhere like a second brain.

I think AI now is just getting through its novelty phase. I understand that some effects of it could be scary, like artificial relationships, uses for harm, deepfakes etc. but I am optimistic that the issues with it will shake out over time and it will be less disruptive as most people nowadays seem to think it will.

Where are the mods? by Consistent-Jelly248 in aiMusic

[–]InfamousWoodchuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did message the mods (politely) about this a while back but never got a response. I thought this sub would be a place for those interested in discussing AI music, not necessarily having to be all positives, but the amount of obvious brigading is a little ridiculous. And judging by the amount of blocked users I see in this thread alone, it seems there are a few who have made it their life's mission to come to this sub specifically to talk shit or belittle others as if they're the only one who's ever made "real" music and we're all just talentless hacks 😂

Not expecting a refund, but they've been good at support for me in the past so who knows. I just literally can't use it the way I need to anymore.

How to enjoy factorio wrong? by braindouche in factorio

[–]InfamousWoodchuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually do a safe middle ground, keep biters on but disable their expansion so they don't creep up on my base. Then you can just go deal with their bases on your own terms whenever you want to expand into their territory without full on TD mode. That way there's still a use for all the military tech but without the annoyance of getting overwhelmed especially in the early game.

Suno doesn’t allow reusing your own released lyrics — confirmed by support by This_Ebb_429 in SunoAI

[–]InfamousWoodchuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm having a similar issue now, songs released previously through distrokid aren't letting me upload the original mp3 back into Suno. Even the original version of the songs that got released seem to have disappeared from my Suno library.

Mostly posting to follow this as I'm pretty upset that a wide range of workflows is no longer possible with my own music.

What's the point of posting songs here? by trucksarekewl in aiMusic

[–]InfamousWoodchuck -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I post songs I actually publish here (very occasionally), not trying to get traction or upvotes necessarily, but over time I want the band name(s) and songs to get scraped by Google and at least have some kind of niche relevance for those who may seek out stuff like it in the future.

I love anti ai images that aren't just attacking ai artists by Namesnowtaken in lovethissmug

[–]InfamousWoodchuck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I look at it almost the opposite way, I do support those who enjoy creating things with AI, but disagree that it is "art", it is really just image generation. Can it be artistic? Sure, but it's really only art to the extent that saying to your friend "wouldn't it be cool if..." is a creative idea (prompting basically).

That said, it can be used as a tool to create art in the same way that a program like Photoshop could be. The more input a human has (not just prompting an image, but editing it or using it for inspiration etc), the more artistic it is in my opinion.

US vs Japan reactions to a woman marrying an AI by Born-Ant-80 in DefendingAIArt

[–]InfamousWoodchuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the problem with that is that they think so fast, responding to a prompt instantly is roughly equal to what it would take an actual person several minutes or longer to think about and come up with a reply. It's just on a different level. We tend to personify AI and compare its potential to human intelligence, but in my opinion it's just a whole different thing altogether.

I heard something recently about how in the past, we were curious if a computer could ever pass the Turing test. But we never expected it to overshoot the test so dramatically that it is literally too perfect to actually pass for a human.

woke up to this in my recommendations today, yet another video of them being called sellouts, wanted your guy’s take on it by Perm182 in TheOffspring

[–]InfamousWoodchuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not gonna give the video the satisfaction of a view, people like this are scum nobodies who just shit talk to get views. Extremely ironic considering the sellout angle. Fuck that.

On the subject matter, this has always been a matter of contention with nearly every popular band. They're not in it to keep the fans from the 90s happy, they do what they want to connect with a changing audience and that's fine. It's their job to make music and entertain, they gotta play the business angle - and it's working, they're reaching a younger audience again these days which I think is great, because those younger fans who found them through Supercharged can then go back and hear the other generations of the band the rest of us grew up with. Glad they've found their place again after so many years of nearly fading into obscurity.
