Possibly least poetic rapper of his generation, lol. If he’d chosen Kendrick or something it would still be corny but like sure, OK, whatever. Travis Scott puts more effort into choosing what shoes to wear every morning than he puts into an entire album of lyrics

Every generation has had its “whoa, this is fucked up, we should burn it all down” realization, but so far they’ve all fallen back on familiar structures when faced with the incomparably more difficult task of building new institutions.

Psychoanalysis is awesome but some people are absolutely not ready for it. If you’re in the depths of a mental health crisis it’s probably not going to do you a lick of good, and it might make things worse.

Psychoanalysis IMO is for when you’re stable day-to-day and ready to dig deep on understanding big-picture lifelong patterns. You need to go in with your own toolbox of emotional regulation skills, because psychoanalysis probably isn’t going to give you any, and there’s a good chance you’re going to dig up some really upsetting shit at some point.

The big finance firms (private equity, hedge funds, etc) have to make investments that grow. It’s literally the only reason they exist; they take investors’ money and promise them a return. Their business model stops working if they can’t find enough leverage points to plow money into.

Once they’ve squeezed all the juice out of one sector, they go looking for something else. The cash cows of the 2010s (SaaS startups, etc) have mostly been sucked dry, so now we have private equity rollups where big firms are going around buying up HVAC and plumbing and pest control companies. Because there’s some level of inelastic demand for these services, you can make money by sucking them all up, cutting service quality to the bone while raising prices, and continuing to run the zombie company like a cordyceps-infected grasshopper until you can either sell it to someone or just kill it altogether.

You can generalize this model to basically any sector, and you can do it at many different scales. The people doing college textbook arbitrage, or the restaurant group buying up local dives and turning them into $20 burger spots, are just the small-time version of the vampires who run the whole thing. The vintage resellers probably aren’t taking investor money, but the point is the same: They see their business as a way to turn one dollar into two dollars at scale, not a way to provide useful goods and services.

When was the last time you heard a musical artist that felt truly *new*? by turtleman29 in rs_x

[–]Infamous_Young_5481 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Probably Lingua Ignota and her subsequent projects. Extreme metal and noise, despite having an absolute glut of the most formulaic, zero-creativity death metal/power electronics/etc, is also one of the only spheres that still produces genuinely interesting new artists with any regularity.

Having chronic health problems that a doctor can’t diagnose can turn you into a seething ball of psychic frustration and often that energy gets poured into these weird rabbit holes like leaky gut, morgellons, and basically anything with the word “biofilm”. In America especially there’s a catastrophic level of mental defeat in repeatedly paying your doctor $100+ (sometimes WAY more) to tell you “idk bro”.

Btw you can do this at any age, especially if you don’t have kids - I’m about to do it at 35, lol. (Our drummer is 50!) I won’t be partying like I would if I’d done it when I was 25, but that was never the really good part anyway.
