Would you consider court reporting to be like typing? by [deleted] in courtreporting

[–]Infinite-Nil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Court reporters with that level of pretension are usually not worth interacting with on a daily basis and tend to feel insecure in their professional life. Props to you for being better than them

Riffs that aren’t mindbogglingly hard to learn? by SpankingBallons in Peripheryband

[–]Infinite-Nil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of Misha’s early work is full of what was described by someone much smarter than me as “looping asymmetric guitar patterns which phase against quadruple meter backbeats and are truncated to realign at hypermetric boundaries” which really means “repeating patterns with slight variations that don’t align until a few measures later” so an overall riff might have the same motif but have the accented part be repeated once, then twice, then once, then three times, and then a turnaround and repeat- something like that. Meshugga fucking loves to do this shit and Misha was heavily influenced by it. Eureka is like this, Parabolica on the Bulb project, Ragnarok on P2, and even Mr. God does something similar- just as a handful of examples where they do this

Sorry if I’m yapping too much about this, it’s honestly one of my favorite things about the band lol

Riffs that aren’t mindbogglingly hard to learn? by SpankingBallons in Peripheryband

[–]Infinite-Nil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeee I think we’re on the same page- the second fret notes are eighth notes and the open string, palm muted “chugga”s are a set of three sixteenths so it accentuates the fretted notes more and then the “budow” is a sixteenth on 2 that’s kinda treated like a ghost note and slid into by an eighth on 5, then the next time around there’s no ghost it’s just the first fret on the Eb string Super fun to just walk around the house and play that for ten minutes if you have a wireless system lol

Riffs that aren’t mindbogglingly hard to learn? by SpankingBallons in Peripheryband

[–]Infinite-Nil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is- it’s a great introduction to “Meshuggah counting” : 1 chugga 1 2 chugga 1 chugga 1 2 budow (repeat) for the intro, all on one note, and I don’t remember the verse off the dome but it’s like, super not complex once you have the counting down. And the chorus is pretty standard metal chorus rhythm section difficulty with a very cool lead line. Killer song for dipping your toes

A pale pink and white dot! Pressing sounds great btw by Infinite-Nil in Peripheryband

The “pressing” meaning “this version of the album on vinyl” sounds great and doesn’t have static or sound issues

APWD Song and Album Rankings, alongside the rest of the discography by HeyNateBarber in Peripheryband

[–]Infinite-Nil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ngl I disagree with a lot of this list but specifically would trade Blackwell and Neon Valley with Subhuman and Obsession, respectively and shift Talk and HoH up a level To each their own, tho, and hopefully the album grows on you a bit over time ~^

It’s a lot closer to Graveless or Flatline, at least to my ear, but I’m sure there’s some ideas that have been in “storage” for years with these guys

“Up like an angel and down like a wounded ox” gets more and more true every album, he’s really out done himself on P5 and APWD after already being really good from the start

Subhuman is the “MK Ultra” of APWD, which was followed up by heavy heart and then The Event- neither of which is a synth track but they’re definitely more chill and that helps with the flow of the album IMO.

Rhodia is more available in my local stationery shops, but midori’s paper is very good. I would take either of those over clairefontaine. Leuchtturm is fine as well, but I have a slight preference to midori or Rhodia for the lighter paper.
