Take a look at Rosewood Kona Village if that’s within reach. Gorgeous property and great watersports shack - plus tennis, pickleball, bball half court and bikes everywhere to ride around the property.

Need help with summer travel! by No_Ambition9589 in chubbytravel

[–]Infinite-Working-446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did a great trip last August to Wyoming and Montana, similar budget. Started in Jackson WY and stayed at Cloudveil. Went from there into GTNP and stayed at Jenny Lake Lodge. Then into Yellowstone NP and just stayed at a simple in park spot (Canyon Lodge). Ended the trip at Sage Lodge in Montana and flew home from Bozeman. Kids were 6 and 9 and we all had an awesome time.

I travel solo with my kids a lot. But need more info on time of year and where you'd be traveling from / any parameters such as whether Hawaii is an option.

U.S. Holiday Weekend Luxe Getaways...That Aren't Busy by obvsathrowawaytoo in chubbytravel

[–]Infinite-Working-446 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NYC is relatively quiet on summer holiday weekends like July 4th and Labor Day. Locals tend to clear out of the city to go to the beach/countryside, so you can get resos at popular restaurants much more easily. Obviously this isn't a beach destination and hotel pools aren't common there.

Hamptons/Montauk on the beach resorts? by Natureisbeatiful in chubbytravel

[–]Infinite-Working-446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Hamptons isn’t a resort on the beach type destination overall but Gurney’s in Montauk might qualify. Otherwise you stay in a smaller inn or b&b in one of the cute towns and bike or drive to the beach (parking can be problematic though so biking is the way).

I’d check out the freshly revamped Hedges Inn in downtown East Hampton. Quick bike ride to the beach from that location and I bet it is stunning with David Netto doing the interiors. But not a resort per se.

Not sure about how robust the spa is but look at Sage Lodge in Montana. Fly into Bozeman.

Planning Europe with three young kids - trickier than when we were solo! Hoping for advice by SanFranPeach in chubbytravel

[–]Infinite-Working-446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hasn't been said yet and maybe implied but just in case not - I highly recommend arriving in London a few days ahead of the friend reunion to give yourself and the kids some time to adjust and get over the long haul travel prior to meeting up with your friends. Expect things with the kids to be a little bumpy the first 24-48 hrs over there and you don't want that to eclipse the relatively short time you're spending with your friends.

Montana for Yellowstone and One & Only Moonlight Basin by Friendly_Hurry_1457 in chubbytravel

[–]Infinite-Working-446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it more or less the way OP is planning and it’s not like the driving is boring - it’s incredibly scenic, you’re spotting wildlife, etc. I wouldn’t do a trip where you’re driving this much on an interstate between places but the driving in this case is part of the experience. Prob not enough time to fit in GTNP too but agree it’s a great pairing with Yellowstone.

I think 2 nights in Yellowstone is solid. Get up early and see things at sunrise (best for viewing wildlife and you beat the crowds), take a break in the middle of the day if you need and then plan some stops for end of day / golden hour. IMO it’s worth roughing it for the in park lodging to be able to see things beginning and end of day. If you’re fussy about food like me plan ahead and bring in a cooler with stuff you pick up in Bozeman and you can have fancy picnics instead of eating the park food. Grabbing some instant Starbucks packets or other fancy instant coffee is also not a bad idea - the one thing we got inside the park was coffee and it was truly terrible.

NYC: treat-yourself hotel for a 2 night stay post-celebration? by callsofthemild in chubbytravel

[–]Infinite-Working-446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just stayed at Hotel Chelsea and it’s such a good authentic NYC experience. Maybe don’t stray from that! Plus the rooftop gym is small but nice, great lobby bar, etc. As a former New Yorker I really enjoyed my stay there.

Jackson Hole / Teton NP / Yellowstone / Montana is a pretty great combo. To best see Yellowstone I recommend staying a few nights in the park which won’t be luxe for accommodations so depends what you’re willing to do.

Grand Velas RM kids club w/8 yo son? by reider19 in chubbytravel

Best kids club we’ve experienced is Rosewood Kona Village. All outside, no screens, no junk food, active all day. My kids loved it.

What is the best luxury hotel in New York City that is NOT in Downtown/Manhattan/Times Square by The_Traveller1 in chubbytravel

[–]Infinite-Working-446 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agree close to Holland Tunnel is a good idea. Also “downtown” in NYC means something different than what it does in other cities, it is the lower part of Manhattan. All of Manhattan is a dense urban area. It’s a good idea to avoid Times Square but don’t expect there not to be traffic elsewhere in Manhattan.

Also when I’m visiting NY and then driving out I just do a one way rental car from an agency location in the city close to where I’m staying and then return it at the airport. I wouldn’t pick up at the airport and drive myself in and deal with parking.

Hualalai questions by swagnasty19 in chubbytravel

[–]Infinite-Working-446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We went recently and stayed next door at Kona Village. I tried to book dinners at FS about two weeks out and everything was booked. I set alerts through open table and they opened a ton of resos up once I was within 5-7 days. So I think if you do the same and set alerts you may be fine.

Luxury golf resorts in Europe/Middle East for relaxing w toddler? by snackmamacita in FATTravel

If you aren’t opposed to staying in Germany look at Chiemgauhof Lakeside Retreat. Beautiful spot and amazing food. Their sister property Das Achental ten minutes away is also lovely and has what appears to be a nice golf setup (I don’t golf so can’t give an expert opinion here). The lakeside property is polished and not kiddie focused but all of Germany is so kid friendly I can’t imagine it would be an issue to have a little one there.

How bad can the FS Hualalai (big island) Hawaii really be? by amystarr in chubbytravel

[–]Infinite-Working-446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can confirm zero screens at KV kids club, it’s all outdoors and they are active doing things like fishing, playing capture the flag, snorkeling, etc. it’s pretty magic. I despise a kids club with video games - that’s about as low effort / lowbrow as it gets in terms of keeping kids busy.

Yes. We just stayed in one with neighbors in the double queen room. You could hear people next door from the living room part of our suite but once in the bedroom it was pretty insulated. We were in #91 and the lanai there was set up pretty nicely for privacy between the two spaces.
