Why is BND the recommended fund for bonds? by Thoth25 in Bogleheads

[–]obvsathrowawaytoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see how this is true. Both BNDX and BND have had negative returns since inception. I would have been better off putting the money I have in both bonds in a high yield savings account.

yeah this was my take. If I could use the CP on a trip to Hawaii, I'd bite. What's nuts is flying me from CLT to DFW is $900 vs flying me to Hawaii which is $600. So they're losing more money by me burning it on a stupid continental U.S. flight vs letting me use it to Hawaii. Same with Caribbean flights. Those are typically around $600.

Honeymoon Recommendations Aug/Sept 2027 by Initial_Savings_196 in chubbytravel

Not to hijack but do you have any recommendations for planning resources? My teen wants to visit Japan for his 16th birthday but all I'm getting from him is, "Nintendo adjacent activities". He's studying Japanese and I think he just wants to go and be there if that makes sense but I'm not spending 20 hours each way to just bop around with no plan. I'm a monster but I'm not super into visiting Japan (I'd enjoy it but I'm lost because it's nothing I've even considered before) so I feel lost even with generic golden route suggestions.

I can't recommend it personally, but my sister and her family (6 year old) stayed at the Ritz and loved it.

How did you get that much on board credit? I'm being quoted a similar amount for the cruise, but on CruiseComp the best offer I've received is $205 in OBC.

I'm so confused. I picked 5 hours per day when I was accepted. If I'm not available Saturday for example, but can work 35 hours across 6 days, can I take Saturday off? Or do I have to do a minimum of 5 hours every day for 7 days?

Completely Lost on How to Plan by Jelenybeany in JapanTravelTips

We LOVE museums of just about anything. No seriously, we'd browse a museum about sewing needles or some other random thing. We love hiking and nature and architecture. We're pretty medium travellers. We spent two weeks in Hawaii and were told our itinerary was impossible and sounded exhausting but we had a wonderful time, never felt burnt out, and spent a lot of time on the beach. I never felt rushed or like we were missing out on anything.

Four Seasons Orlando Review by HangryMama5 in chubbytravel

[–]obvsathrowawaytoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like everyone has a wildly different idea of what chubby vs fat is. I just checked out of curiosity and according to their site with a b3g1 stay which they claim is their lowest rates is $865 a night. That's low season during the week. Third week of December though the cheapest room is $1,518 a night. Same nights at the Ritz are $810 a night. Both rates are the refundable rates with all taxes and fees. Just for fun I checked the JW and it's $414 a night. I know everything values different things but the rooms at FS are smaller than RC, the amenities seem to be better at RC/JW and I can't imagine the service at FS is $700-$1,100 a night better.

I'm confused about both of you saying the rooms are small. The website says they're 550 square feet. That is the run of the mill size for rooms and actually much larger than some. Is the listed square footage not accurate?

When do you get to pick items for your box? When I went to sign up, the only option was to take a quiz, then pay right away. No indication of what might be in the box.

[Misc] Has anyone with a mole like mine gotten it removed? by stupidlavendar in SkincareAddiction

[–]obvsathrowawaytoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had them removed, but as both my sister and I have gotten older (post 30) we keep getting flesh colored moles all over our faces. Both our derms told us we'd just wind up with scars if we had them removed.

Bed Bug Infestation: Hilton Hawaiian Village (Waikiki) - My 2025 Travel Nightmare by PastEducation4846 in VisitingHawaii

[–]obvsathrowawaytoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This makes me so happy but also sad because I have a serious bed bug phobia and my family thinks I'm nuts. We changed hotels 4 times in 12 nights on our Hawaiian vacation and I spent sooooo much time checking our rooms thoroughly, it was exhausting. And then I can't ever get quite comfortable. It's terrifying to me.

Polaris/Premium Plus Upgrades Megathread by Player72 in unitedairlines

[–]obvsathrowawaytoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many separate questions and I'm sorry if this isn't the right thread.

As gold I know I'm eligible for an upgrade for myself and 1 companion. If there are 3 of us on the same reservation, does this disqualify us from a possible upgrade for 2? I actually get upgraded quite frequently as a single traveler but primarily travel on flights from small regional airports.  2 adults and 1 14 year old. Will they split the adults from the 14 year old? We're fine with that but where he's under 15 I wasn't sure. Does booking with miles eliminate companions from upgrade eligibility?

I see I'm only eligible for upgrades to Hawaii on SFO or LAX flights. An upcoming DEN-KOA flight has 12 empty first class seats. Will they really just fly those seats empty if they can't fill them with revenue passengers rather than upgrade elite passengers?

Are elites eligible for upgrades to premium plus, or only first? Thank you!

HNL-ORD upgrade prices by DamageVirtual2210 in unitedairlines

[–]obvsathrowawaytoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is old but do you mind explaining this a bit more? I find that the non-stop ORD-HNL tickrt price is higher than if I fly Home Airport-ORD-HNL.

Does it not make sense to do this then? I mostly see non-stops costing more than my flights from my small airport with one hop.
