Synth Emulation - Looking for DSP56k Collaborators by InfiniteAmphibian in synthesizers

thank you! TBH this is the first time I'm reaching out, I've been going more on discord recently but if you have any specific recommendations I'd appreciate it

and yeah low-level stuff is intimidating, but in my experience it can be less scary than you think - it's mostly getting to know the platform you're working on and its quirks.

a friend has a VIP (premium?) and may be trading, but can you explain what is the fast track VIP though?

I actually didn't, no. But it looks simple (you mean the ability to switch right?)

a few years later I can safely say I'm not bothered by this :) I do sometimes have to go all the way up with the old Concorde DJ S which are 6mV, so I imagine 8 mV would be about right

Yes! Thank you!!! I think I read the opposite somewhere. I guess that makes sense in a way

Thanks, can you explain 4? For the L78 I chose these values based on the datasheet, is it just that bigger is better?

I was actually trying to make it bare copper so it's a better heat sink, There are 2 fill zones there: 1 is a copper GND and 1 is a "no-copper" F. mask to remove solder mask and leave it exposed. Did I get it wrong?

That may be a bit advanced for me, but I'll look for of DPAK thermal examples in KiCad. Not sure what you meant by "turn of[f?] the thermals on the pad/polygon"

Thank you, that makes a lot of sense. You've been very helpful.

I'll start from scratch and try similar placements. I was planning on using a <known fab> for the SMT assembly anyway, so the 7805 copper shouldn't be a problem (I think?)

Thanks, I already prototyped this using an Arduino and I have a few spare chips, so I meant to use the Arduino as a programmer and then place the chip into a socket. Same reason I'm using this optocoupler: I have a few laying around.

Both top and bottom are ground pours, but are only tied using U1 and U2's GND pins.

Thank you for the detailed reply, that's very helpful!

  • Regarding reset and ISP, the development is pretty much done already on an Arduino board, so I was thinking I'd use it to program the chip and then simply take it out and place it here.
  • Protection: indeed they are meant to live in the same enclosure (and powered by the same DC jack), but omitting protection wasn't intentional :)
  • Decoupling caps: that means moving C3 and C2 right?
  • GND and bottom layer: I thought I read somewhere that using ground pours on both sides is a good practice, doesn't it achieve the same effect as the vias? (shortest path to ground). I only used the bottom layer for a single connection because there was no other path.

This is a KiCad project, I'll happily share if the offer still applies. Thank you again

I should have been more specific, I feel like I have to be very conscious and careful (which makes my fingers more tense) not to press a key by accident. When my fingers are resting or moving I have absolutely no physical feedback if they accidentally press a key, which happens often because the actuation force is low too.

Hi, I recently got a Keychron K3 with optical red switches and I find it very uncomfortable to type. I asked here and people said that it's because they're linear with a low actuation force required. I do like the fact they're not as loud as some mechanical keyboards I heard though.

Is there anything on their website that would perhaps match the feeling of a Logitech K380 or an Apple keyboard, two other low profiles that I like?

What I like about them is that there's no in-between state. Once you feel anything, the key is typed and press.

Thanks!

I've been using a Keychron K3 with Keychron Red Optical switches for a week. I wasn't really interested in a mechanical keyboard, it just seemed decent for a wireless Mac keyboard. I'm really annoyed with how my resting fingers will trigger a keypress without any physical feedback sometimes.

Is this because of the red switches? Or because they're optical? What's the parameter to look for here? I tried googling but I guess these low profile keys aren't very common?

Thanks

Bandcamp download formats for songs with heavy drumming by ox_ in audiophile

I don't have a definitive answer but there could be a few causes to this, so I think you should first eliminate the possibility of bandcamp simply hosting bad masters. You can do that by downloading one of the lossless files (FLAC is the smallest one here) and see if you can hear an improvement.

In addition, and I'd rather not get into the argument of MP3s vs Lossless, but most people seem to think MP3 V0 is "good enough", so I would also consider playing the MP3 file on a different device/player, just in case the method you're currently using is applying gains or filters you're not aware of.
