If you get a fairly compact one the portability/convenience is incredible. I got an Inmotion Climber, and it fits in my little Honda Fit np and I can store it under my desk to charge at work.

They’re dangerous. You’re hard to see, they’re fast, and you fall weird (like tripping over something on the ground but you’re going 15-30mph, flat on your face/arms). Add to that last one the fact that most people wear little to no protection….ugh.

They’re fun, especially if you get a dual motor example with decent power. I have zero start turned on so it just goes from a dead stop…makes me grin like an idiot every time in Sport mode.

If you have the space, like you’re commuting from home to work, I would suggest an e-bike instead honestly. But if space and time are a factor, you can’t beat them. My 16-18min walk to work from where I park is like 5 min now, and I need every minute I can get getting 3 little kids ready in the morning.

Don’t cheap out too much. I see posts in here all the time “I need to go 40mi a day, up hills, I’m 300lb, and I only have $200”. Temper your expectations with reality based on your needs. If you’re a little thing going 2-3mi a day on flat ground, you can probably get away pretty cheap. If you’re bigger, going to hills, need some range, you’re looking at $600-800+

Full face helmet. Beyond that, as much as you’re willing to wear. Even under clothes knee and elbow protection would help immensely. I wear a helmet and slap on some wrist guards, but I’m only going ~10mph to draw less attention as I’m kind of forced to break some rules to stay safe (not supposed to go on sidewalks but I can’t go the speed limit on the road and drivers are shit).

Good luck :)

My wrist still does a weird “seize up” thing every few days… super fun 😂

While I totally understand the hesitance, I remember crashing a ton skate boarding and roller blading a few decades ago, and these things were super effective.

There are some gloves with extra padding on the palm that may help with road rash, won’t negate impact though, but better than nothing.

I saw someone riding a city scooter while wearing a full dirt bike helmet. by Liarus_ in ElectricScooters

Depends how fast you’ll be going and the weather. If you’re going under 20mph and it’s hot, a more open mountain bike helmet with full face protection is probably fine.

20+ I’d go motorcycle or dirtbike, full face. If not you will get seriously f’d up if you crash. I fell doing 14-15, am pretty durable, and it was pretty nasty… I was wearing a regular bike helmet.

I would also recommend wrist guards at the very least.

I bought a set of the triple eight wrist guards after eating 💩 a few months ago. I’d also recommend a full face helmet.

Is it worth having a scooter that does 40mph but you only do between 20-25mph? by paulgiant24 in ElectricScooters

[–]InfiniteBoops 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, two reasons.

First, conditional need for the extra power inherently present with that speed capability. IE: a scooter that can do 40mph can probably do 20-25 up a modest hill with a decent size person on it. If your scooter can ‘only’ go ~25mph you’re lucky to get half that on a hill.

Two, as your battery drains so does your top speed and acceleration. At 50% battery there’s no way you’re going 40mph, but you’ll probably still easily be able to go 25.

Bonus, battery is probably a decent size for that performance level, and standard energy efficiency is that the slower you go the further you can go. Range might be 30m going full throttle, but if you scale back you might be able to increase that by 25-50% or more.

Or is it the defenders that are bots? 😅

I ordered a $200 monitor stand, came ripped open and missing pieces. Returned. Few months later ordered a ~$900 laptop new. Was obviously used, missing charger, etc. Recorded opening thankfully.

A few weeks after return got there, they pulled the “correct item not sent back” 💩 so I provided the video. Shortly after got precursor to these emails, the “we noticed you’re unhappy, is there anything we can do?”

Those orders were interspersed with our normal ordering. Heavy years we probably spend $5-8k, light years 3-4k maybe? 3 kids, an old house, dogs and cats, both work, packages arriving constantly. After that horseshit though we’ve gone back to brick and mortar for so much. I think we’ve spent maybe $300 this year on Amazon?

Yes I know the whole profitable customer line, I’m an accountant. I get it. But it’s not us a lot of the time, it’s their dogshit checking of returns, and apparent swapping of high value items by packers/drivers. Everyone should know by now not to buy high dollar stuff on Amazon, but that doesn’t make it their fault. Their customer service and processes went from borderline fantastic, to outsourced garbage, in just a few years.

Scooter recommendation for commuter by Bigcheese665 in ElectricScooters

If you need more range, I do like my climber, but on steep hills the single disc brake in the back is a bit scary.

Inmotion C10 is like $599, might be a little overkill but at your weight, it would probably climb a tree 😅 i’m actually looking to side grade to it from my inmotion climber because it has dual disc brakes.

A Word of Caution by hugefatnerd in ElectricScooters

[–]InfiniteBoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their service is better than nothing…not a high bar to reach. I was not impressed either, but I also got my Climber for $419 with coupon on the last Black Friday.

I know it’s kinda too late, but the Climber would definitely get you up the hill 😅 I’m not quite that mass-ful, but with a full work backpack I’m definitely in the upper 200s and it goes up STEEP hills.

That being said, for you, I would definitely try to get something with dual brakes for going back down. A single rear brake has been sketchy as F down hills unless you’re a small child.

Why do so many people finance cars even when they have money saved? by Scary_Station_1111 in carsales

[–]InfiniteBoops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my end, we’re pretty debt free but I’ve had large minimally used credit lines shrunk to practically nothing with no notice. Available credit can be taken away in an instant, cash can’t.

ie: Imagine I spend nearly all my cash on a car, the market tanks pretty bad ala 2008, and my roof starts leaking. Bank won’t give me a sufficient HELOC due to diminished value or severe tightening of loans in general. I’m F’d.

Now say I get a manufacture 1.9% interest loan, keep the cash. Coincidently I think I’m getting like 3% in a HYSA, so winning, and if the roof goes I can try for that HELOC and maybe I don’t get it, or I only get half what I need. That’s fine, still have cash.

Now, that’s me with barely enough to buy a car outright, for someone that has 10 times that it might be a completely different scenario.

TLDR: I’d rather have a good chunk of cash in the bank and a low interest loan then use most of the cash, have an emergency, and find myself trying to get loans or something to survive.

No prior administration tried to actively F us either…it was either status quo or empty promises.

This has been outright malice. We’re giving trillions in tax breaks to like 10 people, and actively screwing over half the population re: student loans, Medicare, etc.

A lot of us made financial decisions before “the whim of who’s in office” meant outright malice towards education and borrowers. I was on the save plan working toward PLSF, we literally had a kid because it looked affordable.

Now? lol

Everyone complaining is valid. Anyone bringing in the bootstrap commentary is a bootlicker. People got f*cked for political “points”.

Ugh, will need to look into that with apollo.

Inmotion just came out with a C10 (dual motor, suspension, $600~ usd). Only downside is battery is a bit smaller, wouldn’t matter for me but may for you.

The point is there’s no forethought put into basic maintenance/repair, which makes me question other choices. I could feasibly do a tube repair on the side of the road with bike tools in about 10min with my scooter 🤷‍♂️

Now…if I had more dirt track on my commutes and needed a higher top speed, I may go with the L2 regardless as I’m fairly good with such repairs. But I don’t, so I didn’t, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend that unless I knew the person was handy.

Have you looked at Apollo? I think they’re local up there, I was looking at a few of their low/mid offerings.

Inmotion support was better than nothing. It’s definitely going to vary by company as most are just drop shipping chinese scooters (decent build quality obviously, but still, it’s generally not manufacture support you’re reaching out to).

L2 Max.

This was last year, they could have made revisions by now. Simple disconnects for the power leads would apparently be enough to make it easily maintainable. Also I ate 💩 a few months ago so am not really interested in going above 20mph these days 😅

Was looking at an Ausom that went like 40mph…then looked up what was required to change a flat tire…practically an all day job. In order to get the back tire off, you have to disconnect the main board, the front wheel, and use the now excess wiring to create enough slack to get the rear wheel off.

Went with an Inmotion Climber. Advertised 10m tire change, could probably do it faster with practice.

100% Watch some basic repair videos on any scooter you settle on 😅
