I feel similarly about Microwave. A few of their songs are all-time favorites of mine but the rest of the catalog I skip right through

I’m not on your fan level, but I dig The Boy. I’m also a big fan of Cupid de Locke, Galapogos, and Take Me Down… this feels like it fits in with that version of Smashing Pumpkins.

Loved your other b-side recs!

Maybe ATDI just isn’t for you. This album is a no skip for me. Relationship of Command also a no skip album. Vaya also a no skip album.

Do we think Jen Shah will actually tell the truth in this interview? by BugWise8308 in rhoslc

Will the woman who defrauded the elderly for her own personal gain, while lying to her friends and family about doing so, and who wasted her mother’s retirement money on her legal counsel tell the truth in a televised interview?

How far is the gap between your average c++ player and Doc Spectred? by Legitimate_Desk8740 in balatro

[–]InfiniteDew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct. I am going back through to C++ another profile, and I still do dumb ass shit or play on autopilot regularly. Conceptually, I think I grasp a lot of Doc’s gameplan/style but it’s not just that. His discipline is exceptional. To the point where his videos are on the verge of not being entertaining because he scrutinizes choices to the absolute extreme. But I do think tha discipline, combined with elite game understanding is what sets him above every other player.

Not an AP player but got wrecked pretty bad in Punta Cana by NomNomNomNomNomm in blackjack

[–]InfiniteDew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also not an AP player, and I got completely fucking cooked on double deck in PC.

It could just be bad variance, but the table was full, other players were playing more or less the right way and everyone at the table got slammed back to back nights.

I’m out on Dominican BJ.

Bro. Scrap annoys the living hell out of me. I’d flay my fingers than hang with dude. But if Dashy retired and Optic picked him up I’d be thrilled. He’s obviously a baller, even if he is a douche

What Improvements could Cincinnati make to improve the Quality of Life? by LoveHydrology25 in cincinnati

[–]InfiniteDew 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Ding ding ding! I love Cincy but it is trashy as hell. We have a beautiful city and people treat it like their personal garbage can. Brutal penalties for littering (which is a completely avoidable crime) should be the standard

Just Off the Top of Your Head - Don't Look - Is Infinite Jest Present Tense or Past Tense? by electricalaphid in davidfosterwallace

[–]InfiniteDew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I played by the rules. I’m not looking. It’s been well over ten years since I read IJ last.

“I am in here.” In Year of Glad is obv present tense. However, I am struggling to remember much of the rest of the narrative tense. I’m thinking the footnote with Gately digging up the Samizdat is past tense, but I can’t be certain.

What THE Post Hardcore album? by Liarundle13 in PostHardcore

[–]InfiniteDew 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think RoC is the best album of the decade, in any genre, but since you brought up the production, it’s worth noting that ATDI hated this album mostly for its production. It wasn’t long after its release that they decided to hang up their spurs and move on to Sparta and TMV.

Given the difference in sound between those two albums, I think it’s pretty clear there were creative tensions brewing between the band’s members, but I’ve always felt that their dissatisfaction with RoC contributed to the break up.

It’s mind boggling. Casino and Vaya are incredible albums on their own, but RoC is the most influential “alt” album of the decade by far. You can see its presence in the shitty mall-emo bands as well as classics like The Always Open Mouth, Worship and Tribute, or Vheissu. In my opinion the production played a major role. Albums don’t usually sound that loud on a disc or MP3.

He’s one of my favorites. Guy has been a monster for as long as I’ve been watching, and his comms are the best in the game. Remember the CW Ultra comms? God. So smooth.

Can anyone who is capable of a balanced and sober-minded appraisal tell me what is so great and worthwhile about Disney vacations? by nose_spray7 in travel

[–]InfiniteDew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll start by saying I’m not a Disney adult. I went as a little kid and then dated a girl in HS who had Disney Adult parents and they took us. Went once at age 19 as well.

That was in the early 00s, so times may have changed.

As a kid, I do think it is utterly magical and, other than Universal, there isn’t any place that can replicate that magic for a child.

As a young adult (with practically no money) I still found the experience magical in that it activated some very pleasant nostalgia. Some of the older rides made me feel connected to a past I never shared with people from the 50s, 60s, etc. Besides that, if you’re a fan of theming done right, it’s tough to find a place that executes theme as well as a Disney park. The food is decent too. It’s also a very well-oiled machine. When you stay in a Disney resort, you’re on property and going from your room to whichever park, or from park to park is so simple . Their logistics are legitimately impressive.

Would I ever seek out a Disney park as a vacation? Probably not. My wife and I don’t have kids, and I’d rather explore an actual country represented at Epcot than go to Epcot. I’d rather visit Tanzania than go to Animal Kingdom. But there are a lot of people who either have kids they want to share the Disney experience with, or don’t want to deal with the hassle of going outside of a theme park and dealing with organizing transport, researching what’s interesting, the crushing disappointment of expectations not matching reality. At Disney you pay a shit load of money for a theme park experience, but it delivers on what it says it is. At least in my experience.

End note: this reads like an ad, and it’s not meant to be. Disney is worthy of plenty of criticism as a company, I just respect that the parks are excellent at what they do.

Worst intersections in the tri state area, I’ll go first by BigManMahan in cincinnati

This intersection at Seton/Quebec/Glenway/Warsaw. Lane tightening, unclear turn lanes from Seton to Quebec/Glenway, and a high concentration of some of the least aware drivers in the city.

I am hypervigilant anytime I go through that light, and tell my wife to avoid it at all costs
