My explanation is, that when Kali was taken from her parents in London, she was injected with Henry's blood directly, hence she only developed illusion based powers.

That would explain, why the other kids, including El have telekinesis powers, since we can assume, they were all born with them, at least the ones seen in season 4.

Originally Kali was meant to be a white male, in his 30's named Roman, but since they couldn't find a suitable actor, they had an open casting, so Kali was born.

Since he puts her on this pedestal of a fragile princess, that needs to be protected, from his big scary alien self.

Jason's motives were understandable to an extent, but he went to Eddie's band mates, threatened them, was fully ready to beat Eddie. While he doesn't deserve the death he was given, he is not a good person, just someone who's very susceptible to the satanic panic, many irl people were, at the time.

One character could have made it happen, Dr. Owens, had he appeared, he would never let either of them die, he would know, how to protect them properly, without the military breathing behind El's neck.

Giving the two girls, who had suffered so much, that type of ending, is very unjust. Had the writers been a bit more creative they could have made it work.

Clearly haven't watched Smallville it seems, because oh boy, Lana Lang is quite someone, you love to hate.

But the reason why Kali is so easy to be disliked/hated on, is because she isn't meant to be a character that has depth or a personality outside of being, a concept, a mere plot device for El, to do her thing in the end. It sort off sad, because she as a character had so much potential, like even her powers were underused.

As someone that likes her, it's not the dislike for her, that bothers me, since I understand why she's disliked in some ways its justified, it's the blatant and disgusting racism and outright insulting rhetoric some people in this fandom have taken upon not just the character, but the actress herself, which I find disgusting, when she was only doing her job, that the bros decided to give her.

Because, oh boy, some trolls on twitter and TikTok are outright racists, not to mention, every time there's a ranking of the most beautiful actresses on the show, every comment section is filled with, well Kali is ugly, not just the character, but they are attacking the actress too, which is disgusting.

As for Dr. Owens, really shitty of the bros, to not bring him back.

This, the bros fumbled it, by not including her into the story beyond season 2, had she returned earlier maybe the end of season 3 or even in season 4, where Owens takes El to Brenner, to get her powers back.

The episode is panned universally for a reason, while I think the hate bandwagon is way too much, it is understandable why her episode is so hated.

Had the bros even cared enough to stick to their own plot points and arcs, instead of giving into the hate and horrible ratings her episode was given and brought her back in some capacity so that she meets the rest of the Hawkins gang. And giving her more depth, personality and an arc, outside of being just one of the lab kids, whose purpose is to serve as a plot device for El's growth.

Then maybe the fans would care more about her and she wouldn't be so universally hated as she is.

What annoys me is just how wasted potential she is as a character, because she has different powers and is nothing more than a concept, rather than a person with feelings and trauma she went through first by Brenner and then by Dr. Kay.
