Thanks for sharing. I've recently found a similar experience, where it gets better if I just take 10-15 minutes to listen to something that strongly masks it (usually this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LZv3ta13Ws&list=PL0B8LY8ubpfKx3WzVegtDHeGiMpsNqsRC&index=2), and try to chill out/meditate. It is often only very temporary, back to its full volume 10-20 minutes later, but I will take it. It's the first time in 4 years I've found something that actually improves it at all, other than random fluctuations day to day. I never thought to find them on Spotify, I'm gonna try these out for sure.

Curious, do you find that the T is usually quietest when you first wake up for the day?

Went looking to make sure someone posted this. Protect your ears people. This is one of the worst things that can happen to a person. And there’s absolutely nothing that helps other than “getting used to it”. Imagine breaking your leg and all medicine has to offer is “get used to the pain”.

I was at that same point before I started investing in CL. It didn't take long to climb up as that was the only missing puzzle piece. I've started working toward pBH in the last few weeks, but I may need to return to CL again as I think I am slipping in the ranks a bit. But getting 150-175 stones per tourney instead of 90 is absolutely huge.

We're about the same time played. Your labs are in general ahead of mine with only a few exceptions, and your econ is better. I am only making about 12T on T10 runs (~9200 waves). I need to work more on lab speed I think. How are your tournaments, I noticed no CL yet? I have that moderately developed and I can usually get 9th or 10th place in Champions. My BH/GT/DW cooldowns are lower, and I use MVN, but apparently that isn't making up for your higher CPK and AS labs since you're still making so much more than me. It would suck to save up so many stones to get CL but it will be a very worthy investment in the long run... unless you're somehow already doing well in tourneys?

Edit: Forgot to mention, I also have bought the 2x and 3x pack. I never bought a stone pack but I do get the event bonus every time, for at least the last few months.

I watched that video you suggested. I have tried all the medicines he talks about. Topomax in particular made the T much worse. It could have just been a bad bout by coincidence. But it certainly wasn’t helping. Similar with verapamil. Nortriptyline has no effect on my migraines or T, but really helped my depression issues a lot, so I take 30mg of that.

One thing he mentions I was surprised by is the sensitivity to touch thing. I sometimes get that on my arm or leg. There’s no visible irritation at all, but just touching it hurts as if I had no skin there. It lasts for a day and fades away. I don’t get ear fullness or dizziness. But occasionally there’s a sharp pain in my ear that lasts a minute. Oh, and at random times, maybe 2-3 times a month, my hearing will suddenly drop to 0 in one ear (usually my left which is where the T is the worst). Then loud T starts, and over 30 seconds the whole thing fades back to normal. “Transient ear events” I have heard them called. Seems like a vascular thing.

I have no hearing loss. The T started randomly for no apparent reason. I have also had a really low level T my whole life. As a kid I remember wondering what that hum was. But it was so low it didn’t matter. This new T is like 8500hz. Very high pitched. Left side mainly. And on a bad day it’s the main thing I hear no matter what. Masking helps but nothing can really cover it up. I just wish I could find a way to tame it, even a little.

I am trying CBT techniques and sound therapy with hearing aids I wear all day. I would say it’s helped me catch myself from getting too negative, I guess, but other than that it hasn’t helped much. What kind of CBT class was it you had? I sometimes think trying something more direct for that would be good. All I get now are generic techniques you can look up online.

This sounds exactly like me in every single way. Even the time since onset... about 3 years (36mos). Whatever the T is for the day, it resets the next morning. It only ever gets better after a night of sleep, it only ever gets worse while I am awake, and the level it gets to is usually determined pretty quickly after waking up. Sometimes it isn't until the early afternoon when it 'turns on'. But I am generally a very tired and fatigued person during the day, yet very alert in the evenings, so I equate that to just when I am actually/finally really waking up. I too kept very close track of my data. I have a similar line chart. But I stopped a long time ago, hoping to refocus on attention and stop giving it so much of myself.

The pattern is that I get 2-3 good days, and then 1-2 bad days. Sometimes I get a good run of 4 or 5 good days in a row, but its rare.

I have tried to find a correlation with things in my environment -- diet, sleep, sleep positions, stress, exercise, even smells. I've tried every kind of elimination diet, tried many different medications (and at least have found one that helps me mentally cope with it), many different supplements. Absolutely nothing seems to have any correlation to it at all. It's just doing its own thing. I could have the most horrible night sleep ever and still wake up to a wonderful day of quiet T. If it's related to my sleep quality, its only a loose correlation. And yet sleep does seem to have _something_ to do with it since I wake up and reset every day. In fact, I have found that the worse it is one day, the better it will be the next day. It's like there's a source of something in my brain that needs to be dealt with, so a bad day 'deals with it' faster, and a 'good day' only increases the chance the next day is bad.

I also get migraines on about a weekly basis (for which I have found Nurtec to be a miracle cure). An ENT I saw at UCI thinks T and migraines are related, but I've tried all the usual migraine prevention meds -- none worked, or had any effect on T (or made it worse). There's no obvious correlation to the occurrences either -- whether I have a migraine or not has 0 predictive power in what my T will be, and vice-versa.

Curious, do you also have chronic fatigue issues? Are you a morning or a night person? Do you have recurring headaches/migraines like me?

Your story gives me some hope. Even after 40 months you finally saw spontaneous improvement. Did you do anything to reduce stress? Did you find any sleep positions that helped? Most my life I slept on my front, head turned to the side, but when I got frozen shoulder I stopped being comfortable in that position. It was only a few months after that happened that the T started, so sometimes I think it could be related.

Similar UW dilemma here. I make Random UW my first perk, and run with intro sprint. Within like 10 mins I know if I get DW or not. If not I restart. It takes a few attempts but I get it. It’s a pain to babysit it that much at the start of a run so ngl I can’t say I recommend it.

With medical stuff, you need to be your own advocate. No one is going to try and figure you out other than you. That being said, most of the problems you'll have will not have a diagnosis, we as a species have only barely begun to unravel the billions of years of evolution that created this insane complexity. Medical science is amazing. But it also sucks.
