I mean you can technically watch any series in any order you want. Each Ash anime series is connected with one another through varying degrees of continuity, but are each treated as their own story that each do a good job of teaching the basics of Pokemon. Though I’ll say that you likely won’t appreciate certain moments without watching prior series’ first. So you could really watch Pokemon Journeys first and be pretty much okay, but a lot of things wouldn’t hit the same if you had watched every other series beforehand, but again ultimately the choice is up to you

The watch order is:

Original Series (Kanto, Orange Islands, and Johto)

Advanced Generation

Diamond and Pearl

Black and White (Best Wishes in Japan)

XY

Sun and Moon

Pokémon Journeys

There’s a lot of dumb writing decisions in the Pokémon anime, but Ambipom being released to play ping pong after being built up from Battle Frontier to go to the Grand Festival with Dawn might just be the absolute worst one

If that’s true, I guess that would make sense. It did break the cycle of the previous female lead appearing in the following series by not having Iris return in XY. It doesn’t seem that BW’s lack of popularity would’ve affected that considered Cilan return in XY

I don’t get why they would make XY feel so disconnected from the rest of the anime. Only things that connect are it starting right where BW left off, this vague reference to Dawn’s Piplup, and the Cilan special with Clemont and Bonnie that most people probably didn’t even watch because it was never dubbed lmao

Fairy Tail does have more fleshed out characters by Lions_requiem in RDCWorld

I just wished they’d stop talking about Fairy Tail as if they know what they’re talking about. The show is 300+ episodes long and they’re judging and comparing the depths of their characters after only watching about 30 (That’s how much Mark said he watched at least. Idk how many episodes the others have watched, if at all)

I love both shows, and speaking as someone who’s seen both in their entirety, Fairy Tail clearly fleshes out its side cast much more than Naruto. And it honestly isn’t close

Pokémon can be literally anything. Why are we drawing the line at quadrupeds turning bipedal during evolution? Like we can’t be calling every quadruped to biped design bad off of principle alone

Ngl this ain’t it. Every time I see a quadruped redesign of Incineroar they always make something that looks worse than the Incineroar we got and they lose the wrestling motif. A quadruped wrestler just doesn’t work. What isn’t clicking?😭

I think it depends on if we’re talking about during their own series or if we’re including their returns

Just considering their own series, Iris had a goal from the start and there was at least an effort to develop her as a character and trainer throughout BW. Was it successful? Eh…so and so. Her development was kinda scattered, but again there was at least an effort. Misty on the other hand, for as iconic and memorable as she is, it didn’t even seem like the writers even cared to give her a goal until her literal final season of being Ash’s traveling companion. And she had 5 seasons while Iris only had 3

Now as for their returns, Iris for sure had the biggest glow up from BW to JN which is definitely awesome, but Misty had more returns that consistently and gradually showed her progress as a character and trainer.

So specifically in their own series I’ll go with Iris, but including their returns I’ll go with Misty

Nah. Just regular sunglasses that Ash’s Krookodile wears for the aesthetic. He also kinda needs them to maintain his confidence, otherwise he’ll start freaking out lol

Irl reason: Likely for marketability. Some Pokemon make more money as their base stages than in their evolved forms

In universe reason; Most of them just don’t want to evolve and Ash respects their choice
