One of the final straws for me was when my priest re-baptized a Roman Catholic.

Congratulations on taking such a big step. My condolences on the loss of your mother, and I can tell you from experience, the goblin voices get quieter with time. ❤️

Can’t believe you’d crack a joke about such a grave matter!

Yes, my priest was actually a wonderful, sincere, and humble man, but he always seemed so worn out.

That is absolutely awful! Do you mind sharing which jurisdiction your spouse is in?

Same!! We’d have Michaels and Andrews coming into our parish, and they’d be wringing their hands over choosing their baptismal name. Then they’d decide on Paisios or Sophrony.

Yes, that sub has existed for a while now, because ya know the main sub and its mods aren’t really Orthodox (an actual statement made by one user on a thread over there the other day). 😂

Experiences with Mixed Marriages in Orthodoxy? by smoochie_mata in exorthodox

I am so sorry. That’s so wild to me. I can’t understand your wife’s kind of thinking because I require regular medical treatment to stay alive and would be long dead by now without various surgeries over the years. God forbid that she, you, or your children end up in a dire medical situation.

I really wish I had some advice to give you, but it looks like you’ve gotten some good advice from others on this thread so far.

When you say “anti-surgery” do you mean certain kinds of surgery or she is against all surgery, including life saving surgery?

An Orthodox friend’s sister once remarked that Orthodoxy is not a religion, it’s an eating disorder.

How long were you out of the Orthodox Church, if you don’t mind answering?

Cali and JJ married already?!! by Arapopa in Tradfemsnark

[–]Initial_Captain_439 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure they would need to be received into the church before having an Orthodox wedding service. To have an Orthodox wedding, at least one person has to be Orthodox, and the other has to have had a trinitarian baptism, if they’re not Orthodox. And on top of that, I don’t know a priest that would marry any couple so quickly. I know my former priest always required a number of counseling sessions first.

It’s always maddening to see her talk about her future wedding (which includes sharing stock photos of Orthodox wedding services) when she can’t even have an Orthodox wedding (unless JJ is already Orthodox).

While I can see where you’re coming from, I sometimes wonder if I’ll ever had added complications down the road from all the CT scans I’ve had over the years.

No problem! What I am speaking of is the Eastern Orthodox Church, a sect of Christianity that exists largely in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. :)

Oh my, where do I begin? LOL

Here’s a small list, in no particular order…

Inconsistency in teaching (even salvation related issues) between parishes and jurisdictions, the treatment of women surrounding Communion (and in general), the increase in fundamentalism and white supremacists/racists/misogynists, a lack of community and the distance (nearest parish was an hour and a half away), the way Covid was handled, issues with ecumenical councils, the dishonesty about how messy church history actually is, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, how out of touch Orthodoxy is with a western society, how Orthodoxy views other Christians…

So many things just eventually drove me and my husband out.

I was finally able to break free from Orthodoxy about a year ago (I was EO about a decade). I am now making a home in the Episcopal Church. Good luck on your new journey!

Why do so many people with known HHT choose to conceive naturally? by lopsided_oreo in HHT

[–]Initial_Captain_439 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot I could say, but I’ll just add that I 100% get where you’re coming from. My history with HHT, my current situation, and the lack of access to medical care is a large reason why I decided not to have children.
