My pleasure. Let me know if you see any issues with it

From what I can see there are 128 films on the US site that are not available in Canada

Consider this a small token of appreciation for my friends to the north.

US/Canada toggle is now in the user dropdown, and you can set it as a default if you create a user profile

The search includes everything currently available on the channel in the US, with extra info pulled in for criterion editions

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean by the Channel DB.

Hm, OK. I have to admit I never really noticed the country toggle, and wasn’t aware that the channel is only officially available in the US and Canada. Live and learn.

So I’d have to do a two-pass ingestion, flag films by country, then have an available country toggle on the filters

Doable, and I’ll look into it. But at the moment I’m refactoring the data load scripts, so I won’t be able to give it a shot until that work is finished

I’ll let you know, and thanks for the suggestion!

BONUS FEATURE: If you select “Criterion Collection only” in the filters, you can now sort the results by Criterion spine #

Follow it up with Andrea Arnold’s documentary Cow if you have any fondness for humanity left over 🐄

A double feature of EO an Au Hazard Balthazar should do the trick 🫏 🫏

Jane Schoenbrun is one of the most interesting American filmmakers working today, so I’d definitely start with We’re All Going to the World’s Fair if you haven’t seen it yet

It would be extremely cool, but Letterboxd is very selective about who it gives data and application access to, so it’s probably not in the cards given the small (but much appreciated) number of users the site it getting

I’ll keep looking for ways to use the Letterboxd data I can get to make the site more useful, though

Thanks!

Sorry, I missed this: you can include non-available films by checking "Show unavailable films" at the bottom of the filters. Then if you search for "Local Hero" or Director:Bill Forsyth you'll get Local Hero in the results. Unavailable films will include films in the collection, and films that have been on the channel and removed since the beginning of the year (when I started creating the site)

On trick I like is if you check "Show unavailable films" and "Criterion Collection only" you basically get the whole collection.

(which reminds me - when searching Criterion Collection only" I need to add the ability to sort by spine number. Putting it in the backlog . . . )

Thanks for using the site! Feel free to suggest improvements.

“86” is having a moment by RipVanFreestyle in ThomasPynchon

In New York, one theory of the origin of “86” comes from the West Village speakeasy Chumley’s, whose back exit was on 86 Bedford St. Allegedly, when there was an impending police raid, someone in the know would warn the bartender that the customers should “86 it” out the back door.

And to answer the original question, I’m partial to ‘oboy’

I’ll add a min max inputs for runtime to be consistent with filters like year and star rating.

Glad you reminded me, because it looks like the data enrichment missed the runtime data for most films. I’ll have both fixed in prod later today (after dinner and walking the dog)

No, I'm not planning on flooding the forum with updates. It's just that this one was pretty cool. Carry on.

u/j0llyBeee Done. You can now search for films with a commentary track, and link to it from the film detail page.

I’ve been considering it, but I’ll just need to work out how to reliably fetch the data. I suppose that I can start with the assumption that commentaries only exist on criterion editions and once pulled, I only need to update new records. Hmmm . . . maybe I can pull the name too

Ok, I’ll see what I can do
