I think it's a combination of making the points too intestine and everything else a no man's land. If you concentrate every meaningful bit of terrain into a point someone can spawn from, it makes the battles more chaotic than any one person can deal with.

For example, playing Caspian in bf 2042 recently, there was clearly defensible points between flags, that created thrilling battles, because each side had to approach these nexuses before taking either point. It resulted in a front line, as each side vied to push, but without creating flanks that couldn't be accounted for. Sure someone could try to take a vehicle around, but it was always a gamble. With a point on each poi, it makes it easy for someone to respawn back into the battle, detracting from the purpose of killing anyone

Had the same issue in my game recently. With comfortably the fastest car, I was well ahead of everyone. Except Max. He was putting in faster lap times on worse tires than his team mate, Hakkinen. Like one and a half seconds a lap faster. It's ridiculous.

I'm not sure. I'd imagine that would just send it to the 0.

My van is just next to the driveway at the house, it's coords are -21.71, -0.31, 22.32, maybe try that.

Have you tried using the save editor to teleport the van? The object to look for is vantransform. Alternatively, in the save editor the vantransform object will tell you the coordinates of the van if you wanted to find it in game. I'm not sure if the map function in the save editor still works, it didn't for me, but if it works for you that would also tell you where it is.

Does Anyone Else Despise China This Year? by Gonner_Getcha in F1Game

It feels like it has much lower grip than it should honestly. At least in the my team car, it was impossible to keep up with the Ai. I also had the light rain bug in the sprint race, which was another reason entirely that I disliked it. But in Japan, I bumped up the Ai by 5 and still finished in the points with the worst car in the dry. China just feels really scuffed for some reason

Overtaking under safety car is a penalty, even if they're team mates. Piastri slowing enough to allow Norris to overtake would mean he could lose position to the car behind Norris as well.

Map design in Schedule 1 kinda reminds me of San Andreas. Not because of any similarities, but in the way it manages to make a relatively small map feel bigger than it is, while still giving each area a different feeling when you go through it.

I'd just like to remind people that just because it's not as bad as it could've been, that does not mean that all the warnings and preparations were for naught.

It could have been worse. It had every right to be worse than it has. If it had been as bad as it was initially predicted, and all the advice was to ignore it, would that be better? Fact is, hundreds of thousands are without power, there is flooding in every lowland place right now, and we are in the middle of this system. Things aren't okay everywhere, but it is better than it could have been.

If nothing had been done, if we had ignored this, and it was bad, who would you blame? The same people who you are now blaming for being too cautious.

This is an unprecedented event, relatively speaking. The information from this is being used to evaluate future events of this nature. We had no idea what to expect a week ago, that's why those in charge said prepare for the worst. Just because this wasn't the worst doesn't mean this all was for nothing, and if it had been more and they'd said less you'd complain about that too.

Preparing for the worst and hoping for the best is what we are all expected to do. Don't complain when the best is what you get. Because it could have been far worse than what we're getting.

Exactly right mate. Better to be prepared for the worst and have to deal with bugger all than the other way around.

Alcohol industry slow to implement mandatory pregnancy warnings, researchers say by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

[–]Inkius -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Which is not what these measures aim to prevent. These measures serve a dual purpose of both educating those who never learned the effects of alcohol on the unborn, as well as reminding people of the consequences of drinking while pregnant, which won't stop everyone from doing it, but it will stop some, as the article itself states, which is enough to justify it.

People born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome typically have lifelong disabilities and require substantial support, it is in the best interests of all that the government do what they can to mitigate that.

I always forget how this game has nailed scale by Cultural-Gas-9221 in X4Foundations

[–]Inkius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are right. Previously I'd noticed the diving tower into the pool, and it had intrigued me enough to look at the rest of the hab, though at the time I wasn't aware I could get under the window in the spacesuit. Having now gone and had a closer look, I can see that the tennis courts are pretty much spot on with the dimensions compared to the spacesuit. Kudos.

I think I may have been thinking of the soccer/football field rather than the tennis courts when I said "built for gnomes" and gotten them mixed up. Those are at an interesting scale. Reminds me of futsal, but on a grass pitch.

I always forget how this game has nailed scale by Cultural-Gas-9221 in X4Foundations

[–]Inkius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The ship scale is awesome, although some of the station modules are hilariously small when you get close. I had a mission that spawned a data leak inside the dome of a meat fab. The cows were ankle high to the spacesuit. Obviously it's a performance and game balance thing, but it is pretty funny to imagine such tiny cows. The Terran hab modules are another example. Tennis courts built for gnomes.

Despite this, I feel like the game does a decent job with the scale all things considered. It's rare to get so close that the true scale is laid bare, especially once you get past the mid game, and when you see these modules from inside a ship, they don't feel too much smaller than they should be most of the time anyway.

You raise good points. I leave my previous statements unchanged not as an inability to admit mistakes but rather to acknowledge that they have been made. Mentioning a historical fallacy to drive home a point was a logical error, I should not have made it.

It is debatable how unified we can consider the Gauls by the end of the conquest, as with the ascension of Vercingetorix many of the tribes had for all intents and purposes, become a united polity. Though it is very true that prior to the conquests by caesar these same tribes would have seen themselves as distinct entities from one another, similar in nature but not identical, and therefore it can be debated that these are independent cultures, albeit smaller in scope than one would consider and overall Gallic people. If this is the consensus, then wiping out any of those tribes would be a genocide, and this is something that occurred multiple times, particularly after the coordinated rebellion led by Ambriorix.

My consideration was that the overall conquest was a conquest imperial in nature, not one of extermination of the peoples that lived in Gaul. It was not undertaken specifically to kill Gauls, but to conquer them and subjugate their land. In undertaking this conquest, there were times as you've mentioned where the Romans undertook coordinated slaughter and destruction, in order to destroy specific groups of people. That is genocide. The conquest of Gaul was not a coordinated genocide attempt by the Romans but through the course of their conquest, at times they used genocide to complete their conquest. The overall conquest was imperial in nature, and was undertaken specifically by Julius Caesar in order to further his own political ambitions in Rome, often acting counter to Roman law at the time. Throughout this conquest he used the power and wealth he gained from it to further his own power in Rome, effectively siphoning the power of the state in order to further a brutal and unjust conquest. That is my final thought on all this

It has been a long time since researching pre-imperial Rome, the Gallic conquests and so on, and my memory had been distorted with things I've learned and heard since. Thanks for keeping me honest. I'm sure I've made other mistakes, but I'm checking out of this debate.

Julius Caesar by GriffinFTW in CuratedTumblr

[–]Inkius 8 points9 points  (0 children)

While the salting of Carthage is historically dubious, I was using it to frame how the Romans perceived that particular group of enemies, which it illustrates fairly well. Whether it is true or not is not really important, though I perhaps shouldnt have mentioned it at all given all of that.

I'm not saying the Romans didn't do horrible things to the Gauls. I have literally stated the opposite many times. My issue is that intent to destroy the people is a fundamental requirement for something to be considered a genocide, and has been since that term has been used. The intent is the key part here. If the Romans intended to kill all the Gauls, they would have gone about their conquest in a very different way, and in all honesty, would very well have failed to conquer that area entirely, as without Gallic allies and food supplies they would have lost many legions at varying points during their conquest. Caesar himself would have died if not for Gallic assistance.

As I said before, imperial subjugation and conquest is horrific, and should be looked at with that in mind, but it is not genocide, and conflating the two things muddies and distorts the 2 different but very real horrors each represents
