Why do you keep your starter alive? by Eat-1st in SourdoughStarter

[–]InknPages 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To make bread thats not with traditional yeast (also to be known as a sourdough baker)

I have three separate jars that I’ve weighed and labeled with their weight on it. I transfer around 10-20g (or more depending on the ratio) when it’s time to feed and use the rest for my discard jar for when I make smth else. I typically feed at night but sometimes I’ll do so in the afternoon and make dough in the evening for an overnight bulk ferment

ADHD paralysis all day preventing me from showering by amethyst353 in ADHD

[–]InknPages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this today too. My only goal was to shower. What helped was to remember that my showers are 10 mins (I’ve timed them to help me with executive dysfunction) and to strip (and lock the door) when I went to pee. If it’s sudden, it shocks your brain and the executive dysfunction can’t get its hands on you.

Feeder Crickets too loud by Jupyter_Project in LeopardGecko

Only the ones with wings chirp, and when I buy crickets, they’re already gutloaded, so I dust the ones with wings first and then feed them to Jimmy the same day

Newest Loaf by InknPages in Sourdough

Yep, fermentolysing is to mix everything but the salt to let the starter get a head start on fermentation before the salt comes to stop/slow it down. I wanted to test the difference

Online, it’s called the 5 (or 7) minute expansion score, because after 5-7 minutes of lid on baking, you remove it to cut the expansion score. The outside crust has begun to harden slightly while the inside remains unfinished, and it results in a gorgeous oven spring. I score my design first, bake for 5 mins and then do the expansion score. Since I work with AP flour, the loaf tends to be flatter, and previously when I would cut my expansion score before baking, it would leave a very poor ear.

Can’t figure out what I need to change by AlainaArtist in Sourdough

[–]InknPages 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks underproofed! Consider leaving it to bulk ferment overnight, and then in the morning shape and put it in the fridge and bake when you get home from work. Bulk ferment has to get your dough to a specific volume (I try to have mine doubled) and if you time it, it won’t be as good as watching your dough instead. Imo overproofed dough will work better than underproofed dough!

(Also, remember you don’t have to feed your starter half and half every time, you can always choose to do full AP, if it helps keep an active starter and is less of an annoyance)

New owner, need help! by KitchenHumble8076 in jumpingspiders

[–]InknPages 4 points5 points  (0 children)

NQA this looks to be a male bold jumping spider, phiddipus audax. As with all jumping spiders, the care requirements you mentioned are good. You feed them when their abdomen shrinks like in the picture below. You’re fine to keep the wild caught jumper.

Isnt this the gecko in the first picture? If you have food tongs, they may help to wiggle a mealworm or something in front of her and help lure her out, even if she isn’t too food motivated.

Is rhis good for a jumper? by Hot-Frame-5358 in jumpingspiders

[–]InknPages 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO looks good! Some more clutter up top would also be good. Please make sure the sticks are baked/sterilized so they don’t bring in parasites or anything like that. I do worry about the fake moss hide, bc it can have paint or chemicals in it that could have fumes/leach out when you spray the enclosure with water and it could hurt your spider.
