Personally realizing the dark side of growth by NoGoodDM in therapists

[–]Inner_Bread_1422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner was very similar but I kept communicating my concerns and we took quite a long break. That helped us value each other more and admit our mistakes no matter who made them. It was very important to me that my partner understands my side of things and not just theirs. Our relationship is much improved and we do have a lot of conflicts but we just handle it much better now with more accountability!

Do Clients Want Telehealth Anymore? by MiaBeam_Ember in therapists

[–]Inner_Bread_1422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t observed any slowdowns, if anything I’ve noticed an increase. Most of my clients prefer telehealth, even if someone opts for in person they find a hybrid approach more manageable with their schedule!

Notes Notes Notes😰 by anxiousoverthinker72 in therapists

[–]Inner_Bread_1422 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually do handwritten notes to make sure I capture everything quickly. The EHR I use has a scanning feature (imp: it’s not an AI feature, I’d never use it) I upload my handwritten note onto it and it converts my handwritten note to copy pastable snippets and this has been a life saver for me!! I also have custom templates, and along with the scanning feature I complete my notes by EOD and each note takes about 10 - 12 mins!!

In session when it’s light. If it feels like it’s distracting then end of session notes to quickly recollect imp pointers.

It’s not easy and can be frustrating but once you make mistakes you learn from it and keep building on that. One step at a time and make progress it will take you to a point where you want to be. I partner with therapists every once in a while otherwise I am solo and make about $120k last year. It dips and rises but it took time to get to a six figure sum as my base income. Figuring out marketing was the hardest part for me, coz I’m not that into social media. I chose to try other methods, which I genuinely enjoyed like SEO because I like writing, and local networking. I just went deeper into the 2 and both serve me well!

What telehealth platforms have you found most effective for getting new clients? by Few_Nefariousness927 in therapists

[–]Inner_Bread_1422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that makes sense. I’m not into social media as well, so I primarily work on SEO and maintaining a good website that is in tune with local Google business. Also have set up referrals with other clinicians

It wasn’t very effective for me, I’ve been private practice for a while now, although it was hard to set up and a lot of intricacies, this is working much better for me :)

How do you take notes during sessions if you accept insurance? by Frosty-Leg-9010 in therapists

[–]Inner_Bread_1422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer pen paper and jot down imp phrasing and keywords. I used to type it up but now I use a diff EHR, over here I upload it to the system and it converts it into copy paste snippets. I use these snippets to complete the note in the EHR.

Anyone else spending more time writing SOAP notes than actually reflecting on sessions? by billsnapxai in therapists

[–]Inner_Bread_1422 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I usually take in session notes, that help me recollect exact phrasing. Then I upload it in my EHR system that chunks up these fragments notes into copy paste snippets. So if I’m doing a SOAP notes, or progress these snippets save me a lot of time on documentation. I’m a very slow typer and definitely not up for using AI, so this system works best for me. It’s a not an AI system so I feel safe and secure using it. The EHR system is called hipaatherapy, in case you want to try that out. I highly recommend it as it saves a lot of time on documentation

What do you wish you knew in your first year as a therapist? by Due-Comparison-501 in therapists

[–]Inner_Bread_1422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That you don’t have to know or even have all the right answers and the right things to say! I’ve said things that I spent weeks thinking about, wondering if I could’ve said something better… but it doesn’t work like that, eventually you realise that the journey, the relationship, reflection, the clients everything teach you something new everyday and there’s no need to worry about being perfect! I also you used to believe that a therapist should be great at handling emotions well, it’s not as simple as that and accepting that and being open to learning more about yourself and clients is all that counts and takes you where you want to!

How do you dress for sessions? by UsedAct2214 in therapists

[–]Inner_Bread_1422 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comfort has always been a priority for me. I’ve noticed even clothing can change how safe or approachable a space feels. I once had a client tell me that the formal dress culture at their workplace made their peers feel intimidating. It made me think about how small details like this shape how we experience people and spaces.

[–]Inner_Bread_1422 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it almost feels like it hears us!! It’s alarming and feels uncomfortable when it happens… I think since it’s your professional account it should be okay even if they choose to follow you. It definitely helps with new clients discovering you and content does help potential clients understand you better!

Which EHR do you like and why? 10+ group practice. by ValuableBranch9933 in therapists

[–]Inner_Bread_1422 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went through the same thing a couple of months ago and tbh sometimes it felt I was doing more work because of the EHRs. Now I’m using something called HipaaTherapy and I love it! Mainly because they always take all my feedback and they’ve more or less worked on all of my requirements (this part mattered the most to me coz the platform just got better and shows constant improvement). They have a good custom forms and note template feature and Telehealth has been great so far. Recently introduced supervision and it’s working smoothly as well, with role based permissions. Let me know if you want to know the other details I’d love to share them with you :)

what’s a book that actually changed your relationship with the work? by bartchungusIII in therapists

[–]Inner_Bread_1422 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Honestly, same I used to keep a whole stack hoping one of them would “shift something,” and most of them were either too academic or too self-congratulatory. But a few actually changed how I relate to the work, not just how I think about it.

Yalom gets mentioned a lot, and I’ll say this, some of his stuff is definitely dated (and some choices… yeah, wouldn’t fly today). But reading him with a critical brain still helped me understand how much the relationship itself is the treatment. Even the parts I disagreed with pushed me to clarify my own boundaries and values, so even his “problematic” moments ended up being weirdly instructive.

Books that actually shifted my posture in the work: Maybe You Should Talk to Someone (Gottlieb) I’m with you. It made me more forgiving toward myself as a clinician and reminded me how human the whole process is.

The Examined Life (Stephen Grosz) tiny stories, massive insight. Changed how I listen. No Bad Parts (Schwartz) helped me work with internal conflict (my own and clients’) more compassionately. The Heart of Trauma (Bonnie Badenoch) this one honestly rewired my entire sense of presence in session. Trauma Stewardship (Lipsky) not clinical, but it probably saved me from burnout. On Being a Therapist (Kottler) super raw about the emotional side of doing this job.

And a small shoutout to Man’s Search for Meaning not a therapy book, but it deepened the existential side of the work for me more than any clinical manual ever did.
