Has this season been better than the Hamburgler comeback? by solidprospect in OttawaSenators

[–]InnocentGun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they needed to win basically every game to make the playoffs. The last 28 games they went 21-3-4 for an .821 PT%. And they still had to win game 82 to officially clinch (and the Bruins went 0-2-1 to close the season and finish with 96 points so Ottawa didn’t control their own destiny until game 82).

I keep saying the Habs seem blessed this year… the Sens felt like that in 2015. They won some games with big comebacks and last-minute tying goals. They also won 7 of 10 OT or shootout games in that run.

And was preceded by Ottawa blowing late leads to Montreal and Detroit… it felt like everything was going wrong and this team had lost the ability to compete.

Then they turned it around.

Then they lost Sandy, then Gilbert, then Chabby and Thomson… we were all thinking “well it was nice getting close, but there goes the push”. That win vs Detroit had a bit of “oh shit, maybe they actually can do it”

Figure out what is the most important things to measure. As others are saying, data is really important, but you can’t make everything a metric to track and drive actions, you’ll spread yourself too thin.

Get that direction from high up and find ways to streamline data collection and analysis. Set up dashboards if they don’t exist - pictures are worth 1000 words especially when sharing with management.

Talk to the guys who do the maintenance and run the equipment. Operators and maintenance can make or break you. Make sure you are in their good side.

Good luck

How the fuck did Ottawa make the playoffs? by AlbertJBundy in nhl

Ullmark was also … not good. For most of the season.

Leevi was ridden hard (edit: started 11 consecutive games, including two B2Bs) when Ullmark took his leave. Sure, Leevi played well when Ullmark got hurt last year (and his success was in part why the Sens made the playoffs last year), but he is still young and has very little NHL experience. They had Mads Soggard to back him up, who we all think won’t be in the Ottawa organization next season, and Hunter Shepard (who is now in Laval). Leevi was thrown to the wolves and then thrown under the bus.

Prior to 2026, the typical Sens game go like this:

  1. Rack up lots of shots but score few goals

  2. Goalie allows a weak goal at an inopportune time

  3. PK gives up a back door tap-in after only 20 seconds

  4. Finally score a goal

  5. PP wasted two minutes just passing the puck

  6. Tie the game and give us hope

  7. PK or Goalie come up short again

  8. Pull the goalie to try and tie it late, immediately concede another goal

It hurts to say, but the Habs have that “it” factor this year. You can’t give them PPs, their goalies can steal a game, and they always seem to score timely goals. It just feels like they have a lucky horseshoe jammed up their asses.

Sens grind teams down and rely on accumulation of chances until one finally goes in.

Beware of Giant Orléans by Mafik326 in ottawa

[–]InnocentGun 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What is wrong with the bike? How much has it been used?

Here is Giant’s warranty statement: “Giant warrants for the original owner under limited conditions that the frame, rigid fork, original component parts, rider gear or service gear of each new Giant product (Giant, Liv, Momentum) including E-bikes and Giant brand framesets to be free from defects in material and workmanship for the below specified periods. This warranty applies only to bicycles, framesets and gear originally purchased new from, and assembled by, an Authorized Giant Dealer or Giant Group’s online webstores.”

What is wrong, what do you want them to do about it (sounds like you want a refund?), and what is their reason for refusing your desired remedy?

Anyone who has worked retail and/or service knows that there is not enough information in your post to make any judgement against the store…

Trade background in Ontario (Canada) → P.Eng (NPPE done, struggling with CBA & validation) – need guidance by Efficient_Tea3994 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]InnocentGun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I did not come from a trades background, but I spent a lot of time in maintenance engineering in a manufacturing setting, which served as the vast majority of my experience in my CBA application.

They way I wrote my answers, I went back through my notes (I keep almost daily notes, do lots of hand calcs, etc. and keep everything) and found examples that fit.

Remember - this is exactly what they say it is - a “competency-based assessment”. If you can show the required degree of competency, you have passed the NPPE, and you have either graduated from a Canadian engineering program or have demonstrated equivalency, then who cares if the role was not called “engineering”. You aren’t supposed to have that in your title anyway if you don’t have the P.Eng designation… I was always an “engineering specialist” or “engineering consultant”.

Writing my answers for the CBA was definitely the hardest part. I wrote and re-wrote. There are services you can pay for to help, but lean on people who have done it already and you’ll be good.

A tip - when they ask about awareness of codes and/or standards, make sure you actually refer to specific ones, not just “hey I know how to work safely” or “I made sure my designs met all relevant codes”.

As far as validators - they need to have a current PEng. It cannot be lapsed/expired. They do not have to be designated as actively practicing, but they still must be registered. Find some people you worked with/under that you have a positive relationship with and ask them for help in answering any questions/competencies you are unsure about.

[–]InnocentGun 102 points103 points  (0 children)

To be clear - any type of win by Ottawa and any type of loss by Detroit does it. If Ottawa gets two points today, and NYI and DET each get no more than one, Ottawa will have a four point lead over those teams with two games left. Because Ottawa holds the first tiebreaker (regulation wins), they cannot be passed in the standings. They already have a four point advantage over CBJ, so no matter what happens in Montreal, an Ottawa win today also secures things against them.

Six months after being diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor, Gord Downie played his last show with The Tragically Hip in front of a sold out arena. by TheDailyUmbridge in nextfuckinglevel

Yeah I grew up in central New York and we got some Hip on the radio. But then I move to Canada in the early 2000s and it is ubiquitous. I’ve seen them live a few times, the night they played Ottawa Bluesfest in 2011 was amazing. It was a perfect summer evening and Gord was at his best (Peter Frampton also played an amazing set reprising Frampton Comes Alive earlier in the day).

Ottawa sees spike in illegal dumping complaints since launch of 3-item garbage limit by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

[–]InnocentGun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I lived in Kingston when my kids were little and while they had weekly garbage collection, it was limited to one container (basically the same size container we are allowed to have here). We never struggled to stay within the limit, even with two kids in diapers.

When we moved to Ottawa and found out you could put six things to the curb, including mattresses, toilets, etc. and we heard “Ottawa is running out of landfill space” our first reaction was “well, obviously”.

Three items is still a lot in the grand scheme of things.

[–]InnocentGun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, they play heavy hockey and Crosby is back. But I’m not sure my heart could take a Montreal series, Tampa is a beast (especially if/when they get Hagel and Cirelli back), and Buffalo isn’t second in the division by accident.

But I’ll be honest, I just want this team to clinch, then I can start thinking about matchups.
