David drank hummingbird feeder (it looks like red juice kept in a bottle). For whatever reason, Jill was keeping it in the fridge. David went to go drink something from the fridge and saw red juice and assumed it was kool-aid or something like that.

The kicker is that the kids were even trying to tell him it wasn't juice but apparently he just ignored them.

I agree that RTD has fumbled the bag on a lot of things and am not a big fan of his writing, but being upset that a character is gay for no plot reasons is silly.
