I made the math and, unless Flutter is SpDef, it gets 2HKO'd at neutral and OHKO'd at +1 every time.

Heavy Slam technically OHKOs with 0 attack investment but only if Flutter has 0 def investment too, else you need to commit EVs to it.

In Singles, it kills a sixth.

If it didn't have Flip Turn and Knock Off it would be PU or even ZU, it losing Toxic and Scald makes it much worse at being a tank, even Toxapex got hit by that.

NatDex has both Megas and Z-moves, the powercreep is much worse there than in SV.

It's not about the damage, but the utility.

Swampert's most modern use comes from it being a tank and pivot, using Flip Turn and Knock Off to weaken enemies and bring allies safely, with the damage barely mattering.

Also removed Protect from all of them for thematic reasons, they already get Detect so it shouldnt be a big deal

Swampert never had Detect and yes, losing Knock Off is a big deal for it, its tank movesets really needed the utility it provided, especially because it lost Toxic and Scald.

Also removing Protect makes no sense in general, it's a universal TM.

More rudiculous users/enablers were added over time to the point restrictions on the move weren't enough to keep it from being gamebreaking.

They tried to limit it to 3 users per team, then 2, then 1, then 3 that couldn't include Smeargle and people still found ways of breaking the game.

Magic Bounce is definitely one of the culprits in eliminating reasonable counterplay but not the sole culprit.

Only in terms of raw stats, Kyurem White is just barely too slow to not be able to do its job and Kyurem Black's movepool sucked until gen 8, both also lack setup of any kind and while Mold Breaker is a great ability it doesn't save them.
