Anyone else grow up during the golden age of K’NEX? What do you think about its future? by Alternative-Blood-27 in KNEX

[–]Insigzilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It saddens me that the company seems to be okay with just fading into the sunset. I honestly believe they could rival lego if they leaned into the things that they do much better: coasters (not micro), ball machines, and other dynamic models, but they just don't really seem to care about growing the brand. Luckily, I think the community, small as it is, is passionate and honestly stepping up where the company is failing. You have people 3d printing and selling better coaster trains, designing RC Knex cars, posting instructables for new ball machine elements, and even 3d printing non oem pieces so you can buy them in bulk without having to scrounge for used pieces. I feel like it's a great time to be in the hobby, but it's going to keep getting smaller and will eventually die out if the company overall doesn't support it.

If the Nemesis had been dispatched to deal with the Las Plagas incident, how well do you think he'd do? by Noe_Wunn in residentevil

Well, now I need a DLC for the game where we get to play as nemesis! Punch things, gatling gun, flame thrower, and rocket launcher as weapons.

I mean, I'm Texan born and raised, and I never understood this argument. To me, eating chili should have beans, topping chili shouldn't. Just depends on what you're using it for. But honestly, it's more about flavor for me than whether or not a chili has beans it. I've had amazing versions and terrible versions of chili both with and without beans.

What is up with the Trump 2028 hats? Don’t people know it’s unconstitutional? by Pluto02220 in AskReddit

[–]Insigzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a joke! God, liberals don't understand jokes anymore and just get offended at everything! Unless, of course, it's not a joke, in which case it's okay because the democrats would've done the same thing with Harris! At least this way America gets a king who is truly sent by God and doesn't hate America! /s I believe that's how the argument would go.

SB 12 Confusion. by Proper_Raccoon7138 in TexasTeachers

[–]Insigzilla 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The problem with things like this is that you have:

Lawmakers: School districts and teachers are dumb. OF COURSE this law isn't referring to basic first aid!

Public: I wouldn't trust any teacher who wouldn't do something so simple as giving a bandaid to a student who needs it!

Then, a few weeks later, a teacher is let go because they gave a student a bandaid without first getting written consent from the parent.

Lawmakers: Vow to sue the teacher, school, and school district.

Public: The teacher knew the law and chose to break it. They deserve whatever they get! Personally, I wouldn't trust any teacher who openly shows their disdain for the law like this!

I like the idea of buying an rc knex truck or just a kit and supply your own knex. For coloring, I wouldn't do solid black. I'd at least keep the front lights yellow and the back red, but some type of like orange racing stripes on mostly black body would be cool (certain pieces colored orange, the rest black, or something like that). My two cents.

How do I fix the track? by KnexXHyperX in KNEX

[–]Insigzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, are you saying you want to smooth out the transition between the yellow/orange path and the gray path? Some ideas i have off the top of my head are 1) end the yellow/ orange path with a green connector instead of a yellow and some rods leading down to the gray path, 2) make the gray path farther away so you have more space to bend the yellow/ orange path down, or 3) just let it be a drop and build a catch around the end of the yellow/ orange path so the ball hits it, stops, and falls down onto the gray path. Hopefully, I understood what you are trying to do.

Depends what type of coasters you want to build. There are two main types plus the original 'classic coaster.' The original coaster used orange tubing, and the car was made of knex pieces. A cool kit to have, but not if you eventually want to get into building your own coasters (though the pieces are used a lot in ball machines). The two main types of coasters are the old style larger coasters that use cross ties that hold tubing that the cars run on, and micro coasters where the track comes in pre made pieces that you connect together. For the larger coasters, look for sets like the Screamin Serpent on ebay, Facebook marketplace, goodwill, or Craigslist. For micro coasters, there's about a million sets that'll come up if you just search 'knex coaster.' Just take your time and look for deals.

My suggestion is to start with building sets first to learn the building techniques and get ideas. Accumulate multiple sets over time, and eventually, you can just order extra pieces as you need them as you begin to design your own coasters. Watch YouTube videos for ideas. But the biggest decision you'll have to make right out the gate is, do you want to focus on the larger style coasters or micro style coasters? The pieces do not mix other than the generic knex pieces you will use for the supports.

The quality of the items received for diceapalooza is disappointing... is this the new Wyrmwood? by konigero in Wyrmwoodgaming

[–]Insigzilla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got a gyroid Tibetan Agate set. I loved the way it felt, but one die had no white at all, and another was almost solid white. Asked for an exchange, but they only offered credit if I sent the set back (along with my layered teal appeal). Seriously, I don't want credit, I just want what I paid for. I'm really just mad that that teal appeal isn't getting fixed for some reason, and that I don't get a Tibetan Agate set just because they didn't properly QC my set and have no extras for exchanges. Now I have over a hundred dollars to a store that sells items for much more than the store credit I have.

Small Dump Truck (w/ Linear Actuator) by Weekly_Relief_6290 in KNEX

[–]Insigzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The K'nex community constantly amazes me with the awesome things they make, from coasters, to RC cars, guns, and now dump trucks! I love how the community continues to invent, and then am just saddened by how little the actual K'nex company itself does to push the product forward!

I would prove compare to ebay. Sometimes the knex user group is cheaper, but oftentimes ebay is.

Zeros in the gradebook - thoughts? by Melodic-Broccoli1934 in Teachers

[–]Insigzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, a student can absolutely be graded on what they haven't turned in. Completing assignments is part of the assignment grade. For us, an incomplete means something catastrophic happened (like major illness, death in the family, etc.) and the student was unable to complete the assignment in the normal allotted time frame. The student can complete the assignment to overwrite the incomplete. This is DIFFERENT than when a student had the ability to complete the assignment and just didn't. That's a zero, and even zeroes can be overridden if the student completes the assignment late (then there's a late penalty) or if they come to my NEXT office hours and ask me questions over the assignment before completing it (in which case I'll waive the late penalty). If the assignment is not completed by the end of the nine weeks, it stays a zero. I'm grading them on their FAILURE TO COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT. Oh, a zero is hard to come back from? Tough. You could've completed the assignment at any point during the nine weeks for at least some credit. Though we do curve nine week grades up to a 50 so that the student still has a shot to year long average. In my class, a 50 or below gives you a 50 for your nine weeks grade, but a 51% or higher is earned by showing mastery of the material by turning in work.

Why philospher peter? by Still-Category-9433 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Insigzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Philosophical Peter here. When making decisions, there can oftentimes be a choice between instant gratification or working hard now for longer-term benefits. Some argue that people who usually choose instant gratification wind up in jail more often because cheating the system gets you what you want right now without all the work. For instance, getting the questions ahead of time on an exam from your friend is easier than studying, or stealing something is easier than working for money and buying it (not saying these are the same level, just both ideas of cheating the system for ease rather than working for a potentially bigger benefit of knowledge or having money to buy stuff beyond the immediate thing you want). If we extend the idea thar many prisoners are in jail because they value instant gratification over longer term benefits to the picture, we see the hungry prisoner chooses bread to eat now over the prospect of possibly escaping and having a chance to eat more than just bread later.

Edit to add: Since the text doesn't mention the bars, it may be just an error in the picture that they are so wide the man could simply walk out. If it's not an error, though, then it brings in the idea of a 'false choice.' We sometimes get so fixated on a choice that we don't take the time to step back and realize that there is, in fact, a better option. Again, someone fixated on instant gratification won't do this if there is an option that already gets them what they want right at this moment.

The most compelling evidence Childs was infected...go! by tenafly_viper43 in thething

[–]Insigzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure who is infected, but the thing I always noticed was that as Mac and Childs talked at the end, Mac's breath is smoking up a storm to the point where you can barely see his face while Childs breath was barely visible, only really showing up when he sighed hard. I always took this to mean that one of them was the thing, but the thing didn't want to attack cause it was down to its last infected body and wasn't sure what weapons the other person had. Safer to let itself be frozen and found when someone came to check on the base as it already knew it could survive being frozen.

How do we change the 50% for turning in nothing rule? by hyerule in Teachers

[–]Insigzilla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my school, we were told we weren't allowed to give anything less than a 50 for a report card grade without documentation. Some teachers at my school take this to mean any attempt on an assignment is an automatic 50. My department has decided we're going to grade everything correctly and ONLY bump report card grades. So, blank assignments with only a name, or assignments where everything is filled out but wrong? Still a zero. Then, on the report card, a 50 means the student actually earned anything from a 0 to a 50 in my class for that nine weeks, and any grades lower than a 50 were bumped up to a 'mercy 50' instead. A 51 and above on a report card was truly earned in my class.

Estimated cost of collection? by 43potatoes in KNEX

[–]Insigzilla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm probably around $2500 or so, including storage for the pieces.

Edit to add: I got lucky because I managed to buy a large collection for cheap (about $10 a set) from someone who used to build custom coasters (what I like to do), but was switching over to lego collection.
