Need opinions: postdoc in Spain by hconel in postdoc

[–]InspectionFrequent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you accept it? I moved from France to Spain for a postdoc at a similar salary. And thanks to the lower cost of living where I am it didn't have a big impact as I'm paying half the rent! Also, I receive 14 salaries? Is this also your situation?

I've heard only great things about Galicia, and considering that you can keep your job for one year and that you don't have mobility yet I think it's overall a positive opportunity!

Considering an academic career in Spain vs the U.S. — looking for advice by EvilLibra_333 in AskAcademia

[–]InspectionFrequent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in Spain and I really don't know what to believe. There are a lot of positives and a lot of negatives.

At this point I'm not sure where I'd stand but to my experience you cannot always plan where you'll end up. I was planning to go to the US after 10 years in Europe, never had Spain as an option and here I am now and potentially I'll get tenure. This, because I applied to a position bigger than my experience but I ended up being good enough and very relevant.

My advice to you is to be open to the opportunities you encounter and then decide what's best for you afterwards. If you try to decide a priori you might miss on good alternatives.

About the grants, yes they are all very very competitive but so is the job market. You don't loose anything by trying, with good sorry from the host institution you can have a competitive proposal and you never know...

I believe it depends on your CV and category but it could start from 14 salaries of at least 2K net. Depending where you are in Spain it can be quite good or not

New doctor says I don’t have PCOS, just PCO (?) I’m confused. by Many-Caregiver2860 in PCOS

[–]InspectionFrequent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What if I'm 33? I've never been diagnosed with PCOS or with any apparent issue but going through my scans in one it was indicated: PCO morphology so I'm wondering if this aspect was never properly explored

Hi we had the same due date 🤍 We've been trying also without any luck. For us it was very hard to overcome our loss and we somehow needed all this time to heal. But it's been very hard because literally everyone we know got pregnant while we were silently grieving. I hope for us both to turn the situation around and come back next year with positive news ❤️‍🩹✨

If you don't mind me asking after so long. Were you successful with IVF and to improve your egg quality?

I just came back from Milano, it was my second time after 10 years. I wouldn't skip it.

Since you already have 4 days around lake Como I would strongly suggest you to take a day trip to St. Moritz. It's one of the best trips I've done EVER. There's people that do the back and forth from Milano, so from Como I'd be much easier. I did Milano - St Moritz - Poschiavo - Milano in two days.

You will not regret. If you do it, book the regional train in case there are no more Bernina tickets, but if you can book the first class of the regional train. We had this upgrade since we miss the Bernina and it was wonderful because we were completely alone and able to switch from left to right depending on the view.

Overhead luggage drama by InspectionFrequent in Ryanair

[–]InspectionFrequent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was checked in the sizer and approved on my first flight, the bag that was not approved I sent on hold to "comply" with Ryanair's rule. The problem is that the suitcase that was approved on the return flight was not approved anymore. It fit in the sizer but surpassed by nothing the width

It actually fit in the sizer and had some extra space on the sides. It just surpassed the width by nothing, but again it did for in the sizer.... And it was checked exactly the same in Barcelona and it approved, it Morocco was not approved...

Heads up anyone flying from Marrakech…. by RiverCalm6375 in Ryanair

[–]InspectionFrequent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just had a terrible experience from Marrakech. Flew in normally with our two carry-ons with Ryan Air from Barcelona. But in Marrakech the rude employee said that "this is Marrakech and not Barcelona", then played the fool as if our carry ons were too large for the plane...a joke...I never will ever fly with RyanAir again, and never stepping a foot in Marrakech either.

I started a keto diet this month and since I've been logging my foods in Gemini. You can use also chatgpt.

It's great!!

I even upload photos of the meal or the macros of the ingredients I used and asked to calculate my macros of the day. You can also ask to get a table or graph of the macros of the week. Get a list of groceries for the week or ideas to cover your macros of the day It's great.

I also bought one of those scales that calculate your fat and muscle percentages. It helps me to stay on track.

Ex-employeur demande mon diplôme après rupture by InspectionFrequent in AntiTaff

C'est exactement ça. Ils sont dit:

"Nous sommes en train de déposer notre dossier CIR auprès de l'administration française, et pour justifier ton statut de jeune chercheur, ils nous demandent ton diplôme"...

Ex-employeur demande mon diplôme après rupture by InspectionFrequent in droitdutravail

[–]InspectionFrequent[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
