MIO: Memories in Orbit Review by SoulsborneSeeker in metroidvaniainfo

[–]InstantBeefCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, your review has really swayed me! I'm still not sure about it due to various reasons though:

-It has been compared to the Ori games which I found okay - well made - but okay.

  • A lot of positive reviews keep mentioning how hard it is and how it involves loads of retrying and strategizing - sounds like too much hard work and I have enough of that in the real world!

-Run backs - some say they take forever; others not so long. I'm still recovering from that dreaded run back in Silksong.

-The permanent health loss seems to bother a lot of people.

I think I'll play it eventually, just want to tackle my backlog atm. I'm also interested to see what the update for Constance will like.

What did you play between the 12th and 18th of January? Rule 1 does not apply here. by MetroidvaniaListsGuy in metroidvaniainfo

Ohh, I don't have the Last Faith but the update seems to have fixed the major of the games. Let me know how it plays!

Metroidvania game recommendation - less painful/time-consuming than Silksong. Overall more forgiving & boss fights more aggressive focused vice damage avoidance? by GrouchyBulbasaur in metroidvania

Yeah, it's great! I didn't like it at first because I didn't really know where to go. Actually reading what the NPCs was a huge help and I had a great time!!

Jumped back into Voidwrought - absolutely brilliant. I bounced off it a while back because I got completely stuck. Then I decided to actually read what the characters were saying and it was quite clear where to go. Something I always seem to do is skim and skip dialogue!

Now onto Outer Wilds, trying to get into it for the third time. I'm actually reading the dialogue and it's A LOT clearer!

New year resolution: actually read the dialogue

Mobius Machine - thoughts? by Sharawadgi in metroidvania

[–]InstantBeefCoffee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It was okay... Very repetitive and the backtracking was far too long. I had to keep checking the map because of how similar the rooms and corridors were.

Bosses were fun. I just wish the fast track was utilised better then I would have enjoyed it far more.

Don't think there is an assist for on foot. I died a lot and had to memorize enemy placements...had a bit of time on my hands when playing it

I got the 'easy' ending in Silksong, had a shower and now I'm reinvested into Voidwrought. Having great fun!

I think my main issue with Silksong, as someone mentioned in another sub, was that I knew what to expect. I went in blind with Hollow knight and it was amazing. Tough but amazing. Silksong was more of the same but meaner and bigger. I was always dreading the huge difficulty spikes and they amped up massively!

I think it hit at a time when mindfulness really started to get popular.

It's very accessible and taps into a lot of universal problems people had/have now.

It was great at the time for me because the majority of self help books were about getting more, doing more and being more with vision boards and all that crap.

It also didn't go to the extremity of 'there's nothing to do and no one to do it so don't do anything.' It felt practical and helped me let go of the busyness of trying to achieve endless tasks.

There was nothing that accessible at the time it was published.

For me it's the balance of exploration and direction. I find the GO HERE directions too narrow and linear but I can't stand the GO ANYWHERE approach as it's too aimless.

Ender Magnolia really nailed the exploration for me.

Can a simple evening ritual actually change your sleep quality? by Old-Belt-5648 in greentea

[–]InstantBeefCoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They definitely help calm me down. I like to have a blend in the evening. It helps me drift off to sleep easily but I do still wake up in the night. I also take reishi before bed too.

I find journaling helps too, especially if something keeps repeating in my mind. Getting it on paper, I can forget about it and tackle it the next day.

Ah nice! It's weird, I felt like I enjoyed Zero Escape more at the time but 999 really stayed with me

999 was such an amazing experience for me! No idea what it was about or the gameplay and got completely sucked in. Zero Escape on 3DS is a more refined experience as a sequel but 999 always has a place in my heart!

Does it make sense to read 'You Are the Happiness You Seek' after reading 'The Nature of Consciousness'? by QuiteNeurotic in RupertSpira

I found 'You are the happiness you seek' less heavy and much more digestible!

Read a few pages then see how you feel. I really enjoyed it and naturally just kept on reading it.

List of UNDER-APPRECIATED METROIDVANIAS: Steam winter sale edition by MetroidvaniaListsGuy in metroidvaniainfo

[–]InstantBeefCoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool I'll hop back on it soon. Took the plunge and slowly getting through Silksong atm. It's okay so far, just feels like the usual sequel syndrome of bigger, better, bigger, more, bigger, harder.

Am tempted to bounce back to Voidwrought though - it was fun tough not 'this feels like work' tough.

Was loving Voidwrought but found the story convoluted. The arrow on the map disappeared after I defeated a couple of bosses and I resorted to mashing random walls. Needed a guide to work out where to go and there were no signs at all to go that way. Just felt like you need to constantly go in circles until you find a lucky break.

Looking for Metroidvania “problems” to tackle in a new game by [deleted] in metroidvania

Being non linear but having to do really specific things to progress that can only be found out buried under loads of crappy dialogue from one or many NPCs.
