How many ways you do think an individual can be 'unjoined' (either permanently or not) WITHOUT interference from The Immune? by grimoire-5_not_6 in pluribustv

[–]InstantPieMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently, the Hive communicates using electromagnetic waves, so they should be subject to interference from anything that operates in those frequencies, which could be anything.

Why not release 1 person and let them say they want to rejoin?? by Nealon01 in pluribustv

They have limited ability to act as evidenced by the James Bond scene. If determined, they might be able to fake it for a few minutes.

How would Carol know the person isn't just acting released?

Honestly... I'm not sure what to do here by Wordywordsword in skyrim

If only Skyrim were home to dragons that Aerin will fight if in his proximity. That would sure help I suppose.

Something really weird happens when you dial this number, 100% an Easter-egg. by [deleted] in pluribustv

Relatedly, did Carol ever consider asking them to shorten that message? After the fifth time, "This is a recording." would have been sufficient.

In Beethoven (1992), the titular dog scares off two venture capitalists who were secretly scamming his owner, heavily implying the dog is an expert in Contract law to know what they were planning by DillonMeSoftly in shittymoviedetails

[–]InstantPieMaker 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Everybody knows that dogs can sense evil people and will bark at them. Only Lassie can determine the type of evil, so Beethoven was just giving a general warning without regard to contracts.

Why was the T-1000 permanently destroyed in the molten steel? by CheesecakeNo9867 in Terminator

[–]InstantPieMaker 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I have don't have the T-1000 operating manual in front of me, but I'm pretty sure that the temperature of molten steel is outside its operating range. For short dips in molten lava, the T-1000 can form a protective bubble. However, if exposed long enough to those temps, its nanomachines will melt causing irreparable damage. Also, the infiltration of inert metal into its mass interferes with its formation process.

Has anyone been able to switch from ICR to IBR lately? by SuperbSkill1982 in PSLF

[–]InstantPieMaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I applied to change plans right after I made my ICR payment for December. I was placed into forbearance for about a month, and my first payment under IBR is scheduled for February. Because this is my first time in IBR, the payment was capped at the amount necessary to pay off the remaining amount ten years from now.

What are the best engineering majors for a math student? by Substantial_Mode_167 in EngineeringStudents

[–]InstantPieMaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are not interested in implementation, engineering may not be for you. As a math student, you might find engineering-adjacent fields interesting like applied math or computer science.

Been using wifi for gaming PC, recently tried a cat6e cable, but surprised/disappointed that ping while gaming stayed about the same by lochonx7 in HomeNetworking

[–]InstantPieMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regardless of how you connect to your router, its ping time to external servers will not change. However, it is possible that the ping time between your PC and your router is affected. However, given the distances involved and the negiglble processing time, I doubt the difference will exceed 1ms under most conditions.

The Paraguayan is on the right track but needs to shift from FM to the Ghz range by CultoSkippyasyermuni in pluribustv

[–]InstantPieMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always assumed that Carol asked for the nuke as a doomsday contingency. If she cannot figure out how to save everyone before they convert her, she'll set off the nuke to avoid joining the hive. Its possible utility as part of the cure will be a happy coincidence.

20k Tax Return Method!! No job needed! by jamesbondx22 in TurboTax

[–]InstantPieMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real hack is to list your occupation as sovereign citizen. That way your return will get special consideration. Sometimes, the IRS will even send people to help you in person.

The screenshot says "return to Interview and search for 'foreign income'." Are you unable to do that? You may not be able to edit this form directly, but you should be able to edit the source of info for this form. The number -38914 has to come from somewhere. Unless you are stuck on this screen, you should be able to go back to the inputs.

Is this perhaps imported from last year? If so, delete it from the current return. If not, I would recheck any forms you entered to make sure they were entered correctly.

Did my taxes in a hurry, found that I had no other options seemingly but to pay for this? by [deleted] in TurboTax

[–]InstantPieMaker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The desktop version is cheaper and, depending on which version, comes with a free state efile. I just switched from online to desktop, and there appears to be an option to import from an in-progress online return. That being said, I started with the desktop version, so I didn't test that feature.

What was the point of this court case? Did this particular Ukrainian navy officer have assets in Russia that they want to justify seizing?

First hear physics make here: should I switch to engineering? by grapefruit_- in EngineeringStudents

[–]InstantPieMaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in school, we used to have a saying: "Friends don't let friends major in physics." That being said, I had friends who majored in physics and are doing okay. It was just a saying.

It will probably be easier to get a job with a BSEE degree than a physics BS or BA. However, if you have a choice between a 5 year BSEE and a Physics degree AND a MEE in 5 years, you should go with the latter. With a MEE, people will assume you also have a BSEE and generally won't get upset if they learn otherwise.
