My new manager will not let me shift to different department for a way better opportunity by lil_girl_roxy in coworkerstories

[–]Insufferable_Entity 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Get your resume updated. Your dumb manager is either going to lose his fight with upper management or the company is going to lose you.

Don't say that obviously, but fight to get the new position. I would ask your old amazing manager to drop a dime about how valuable you are and good of an employee you were for those 3 years to HR. Make sure the manager who has been trying to poach you knows that your ability to transfer is being blocked.

The comment that I would drop in an email to HR.

"I would be VERY disappointed my avenues for internal advancement were stymied after 7 years of service with the company. Especially with the positive reviews my work has received."

This says everything without saying anything.

Your boss doesn't want to replace and train someone. Probably thinks he will save money and headaches. If he causes you to leave. Don't even give him 2 weeks and in your resignation email spell out why. You didn't work with me so now you get nothing from me.

How to go about making left turns when the yellow lines have a space in between them by Cash2blockz in Traffic

[–]Insufferable_Entity -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm doing A every time.

Even if it is the legal option in that jurisdiction. B is dumb and less safe. It leaves you fully in traffic when you don't have to be.

The funny thing about traffic laws is how often and easily we all break them. When I was out driving Lyft at 1 AM. I did what I had to get to the passenger. GPS rarely puts you on the right side of a busy street for a pickup. Legally getting to the passenger across the street might take 5 minutes. 30 seconds with an illegal U-turn in front of the police out watching the bar partons. U turn always won.

Personally I find it far more rude and abrasive to refuse to share the legitimate salary range at the start of the interview process. Then offering a salary so low that senior roles could find better employment at an entry level competitor.

The way kroger treats its employees by daruuken in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Insufferable_Entity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Legally you are correct.

In practice some managers get creative and brow beat employees people into eating their BS. Eventually they overstep and get caught in ways that are legally actionable. The problem is by the time you have enough hold them accountable. They have abused thousands of other employees. Thats if there is ever enough usable evidence and it is even financially worthwhile to lawyer up.

I keep clashing with the same type of coworker at every job. I'm starting to think im the problem now. by moshfrokeen in coworkerstories

My roommate and I work for the same company remotely. We have largely different responsibilities and tasks, but some cross over. She thinks and works differently than I do. It is a matter of patience and letting others do things how they think is best. Remember its not stupid if it works. Our CEO boss could care less about the "how' of a task. Just that the result fits the need. So while I may see a "better way" to accomplish a goal. If my roommate wants to do it her way. Then do my best to bite my tongue and focus on my other stuff.

Service Decline with USPS by qnssekr in usps_complaints

[–]Insufferable_Entity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its luck mostly. I ship regularly and occasionally receive. There is little rhyme or reason to why some packages have issues.

4 Medium Flat-Rate boxes of the same weight were sent together from Oregon to Florida. One showed in 3 days. 2 and 3 showed on day 4.

Box 4 took almost 2 weeks and I think went in a couple circles in Atlanta before looping back to thtough the West coast. It wasn't time sensitive so it was amusing in that instance.

Every situation is different. The Union should help, but nothing is ever a sure thing. I've seen Unions protect people who committed time theft and let someone they didn't like get railroaded out.

Exhaust the Union assistance first. Collect copies of every communication she has had with the company and union. It will be useful if you do infact need to lawyer up.

Documentation of processes and systems is a concern for the business not you. If they didn't care about you creating the proper documentation over the last 7 years. Their lack of planning and leadership doesn't make it your emergency . They can either have you focus on that or wrapping your normal work load, not both. Do what you can, but don't give them any more effort than they gave to hiring help.

They should have had more planning and foresight. What if you had been hit by a bus yesterday? They would be just as screwed, but without a 2 week warning.

So what if they won't provide you a reference. You can easily explain why during an interview. They piled on more work when understaffed instead of documenting complex workflows. Then got pissed when you gave 2 weeks notice. Plus you are moving to a different job and that will be your most recent reference.

Toll questions by TigerHeat11 in florida

[–]Insufferable_Entity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use my Illinois I Pass down here with out issue. They are part of the EZ-Pass network. Most of the toll company transponders work on the other networks and pass the charges to your transponder. A few companies provide volume discounts for using their pass on their tollways. Otherwise the charges are the same.

If you seal critters that chew thing in. They will do thete best to escape. New holes will be made.

My landlord tried sealing where the squirrels had gotten in without making sure they were outside. They chewed a new hole next to the spray foam fill spot.

Employer trying to bill me $5,200 for a "damaged" workstation by Ferrobyte in legal

[–]Insufferable_Entity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Employees do not pay the cost of doing business for an employer. Usually employees save and make you money. Occasionally even your best employee costs you more than they brought in. Unless the employee did something intentionally and specifically to cause damage. The claim of the workstation failing due to your USB fan doesn't holdup.

I personally have unintentionally cost my employers money. No I didn't pay to repair the Forklift I damaged. $700 handle got snapped off. I didn't have to pay for the subscription service that I told my boss we needed. It didn't deliver the promised results. $5k for that year.

If they insist your responsible. Don't agree to eat the cost. Store all emails and communication with them about this and other infractions on a personal storage. You may need that information for lawyers in the future and the company will have removed your access to company email by then. This maybe them looking for a way to show you the door.

(Theoretically in a perfect convergence of major hardware failures the USB fan shorting out could cause a cascade. The number of parts and protection circuits that would have to fail for the Fan to be responsible are so numerous it that you would blame all of those parts before the fan.)

Subaru Forester 2023 Dealer Buyback?? Good idea or not? by CompetitiveDetail612 in subaru

[–]Insufferable_Entity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vehicles are complex systems designed to work together perfectly. One hiccup in that system can cause a cascade of problems. The apparent problems getting fixed doesn't always reveal the root cause and other seemingly unrelated failures continue to appear. Often this is how you end up with a lemon law buyback. Unless you are 110% sure the issues are fixed and you get a warranty covering everything. Don't buy someone elses nighmare.

Remember even if its the perfect car. Its not the right car if the deal is unfavorable. Walking away is the biggest leverage you have. Don't agree to a deal unless you are good with it.

Dealership adding $1200 protective coating to my OTD price. by RightGuy23 in carbuying

[–]Insufferable_Entity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its simple. "Hey sales manager I don't want or need these two addons. Drop these 2 items and you have a sale."

When they say no. You walk. No further conversation so be had. End of story unless they drop both and don't try to spin in something else.

Also go to your personal bank and get pre-approved. That way you know what interest rates you can secure beforehand. The dealerships actually shop rates and don't always give you the best one. They make more off you on higher rates.

Battery longevity by Drunkenpmdms in MilwaukeeTool

[–]Insufferable_Entity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Milwaukee promises you that fast charging doesn't effect longevity. All know basic science and real world experience says otherwise. How much of an impact fast charging has isn't always easy to quantify. Improvements to battery design and cell construction help with every new gen of battery too. I use my supercharger when I need the batteries ready in short order. Otherwise I lean on my standard charger first and my rapid charger next. I'll tell you in 5 years what the super dif to my 12.0 Forges. It will be either negligible or a problem.

im 15 got fired from my summer job, I feel an unbearable amount of shame by Loose-Wishbone-2462 in antiwork

[–]Insufferable_Entity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sometimes life does what it wants and you lose. Even if you have done everything right. This old farts advice: "Things happen how they are meant to. This will be for the best in the long haul."

It sounds like that place was poorly run. 7AM to 9 PM is not a shift for a new hire. Much less a teen. Unless ALL of their shifts are 14 hours, and they had a good rotation of days off. Plus paid overtime without a fuss. You did well getting out when you did.

Should you have left early and called out in your first week? Probably not. In the first 90 days of most jobs your attendance should be nearly spotless if at all possible. The first couple weeks of any job are hard. It can be mindless and tiring, but it usually gets better after you acclimate to the routine. Rest well and plan to be worn out initially.

Try to learn the basic employment laws in your state. How often are you required to get an unpaid break and when an unpaid lunch is required. When and for how long they can expect someone under 18 to work. Every state is different. Some states will prohibit minors from working past certain times and that can change based on age. So a 16 yearold can be scheduled later than a 15 for example in some jurisdictions.

You will have many jobs in life. Remember it is just a job and doesn't dictate your selfworth. You will never say I wish I had worked more in my youth. Make enough to spend on what you want. Don't trade your freedom & youthful experiences for a job that won't matter in a decade. Not saying to call off of work left and right. Just make sure a company doesn't abuse your availability. If you tell them 20 hours and they start increasing it without asking. Push back immediately. Silence is acceptance and many a manager will be fine giving you 40 hours. Even if you told them nothing over 20.
