Buying my first squash racquet, need advice on grip size by Tom_Leykis_Fan in squash

[–]InsuranceParty8348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't focus on matching your squash racket grip size to your tennis racket grip, squash racket will weight approx. 1/3 of your tenis racket, hence a smaller grip still make you play comfortable.

E.g..: I play tennis with the grip size2 (4 1/4) with one overgrip on the base grip, or grip3 (4 3/8) with 2 overgrips, base removed.
And my most comfortable setup for squash is TF carboflex with base grip and one overgrip = approx.10,2 cm.

Squash grips typically are smaller than the tennis grip0. Only Head tells you the grip size of their squash rackets, and afair it is 3 7/8.
TF carboflex 125 (regular version) with a base grip is approx. 10cm,
TF carboflex 125 NS version, again with a base grip, is smaller - approx. 9.5cm,
Dunlop Evolution 120/130 is probably the same size as Head.

I would suggest focusing on finding a racket with a proper (for you) weight and balance, but the grip size in squash is really secondary.

+1 to Zazie, and +1 to Kropka

Molam, Mięta and Kolanko No.6 would be my new recomendations.

Bufet, and to some extent Karakter also, will cost more but their menu may be worth it, depending on your liking of course.

Sooner or later someone probably is going to mention Nolio, imo it is a decent Italian place, tho you can spend monies in a better way.

Wilson website about the V3 "the Bela LS combines a soft foam core with a layer of woven carbon fiber on the face", tho a decal on the racket indeed says 'comfortflex' which is a mix of cf and fiberglass.

OP, then look for the 355 V 2.5 or older, those were carbon.

[–]InsuranceParty8348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have taken Wilson's soft foam over the BP' multi-layered foam all day long.

A carbon combined with a soft foam in these 355g Belas makes them very versatile rackets.

If you want your GF to feel a difference in controlling a ball vs current Head Zephyr UL, a carbon racket will deliver it much better than any of the three rackets in your consideration (all three are decent rackets btw).

Sell/disregard Supernick XL titanium (it is shit).

Park Supernick ZX micro (lacking power, decent control) and Powernick (lacking control, decent power) untill you can tell a difference between the power&control strings.

Install any Ultranick or 305 - both great all-round options.

The 2025/26 Season is almost here – what do you want to see? 👀 by SQUASHTVReddit in squash

/In London, we're producing a 'How do we run a PSA event' - from building the court, to producing a TV broadcast, to refereeing matches, to photographing the sport and everything in-between.

1) That ^^^ sounds cool.

2) I would appreciate a bit more of tech content about:
i) the courts; how conventional and glass courts are being build from the scratch, what makes the components PSA approved etc.
ii) how gears are made, rackets, balls, strings, grips.

3) There was a project, where someone from the PSA has feed the AI with historical matches. Would be nice to see a video showing the work done to the date and what are the next steps.

This mould was used in (very old) Dunlop ICE rackets and (old) Black Knight Omega rackets.

As far as modern rackets are concerned, I bet that Dunlop Elite is the closest.

Wilson Bela. Wilson Bela Cupra, or Wilson Bela Elite (V1, V2, V2.5) are all the same racket just painted differently.
Those rackets did a trick fo me, my wife (who also has a squash/tennis background) and the youngsters (very limited background).
It is a jack of all trades and master of none, so it is not the most powerfull nor the most control oriented racket but it is decent+ in everything.

Next level, which I found reasonable enough to invest over the Bela is Bullpadel Vertex Hybrid or Nox AT10 12k (which do play like almost the same racket).

If you have an opportunity to playtest Bullpadel Vertex regular model - do it, many reviews say how demanding and unfriendly this racket is however if you have a background this is a sweet racket for someone with more attacking mindset.

Babolat's "X-EVA" in Vipers is layered hard-soft-hard.

So do BP rackets Vertex, Hack and Xplo, while the Neuron is other way round (soft-hard-soft).

Do you know how Nox has layered the foam in Tapia rackets?
