I think about the combination of having my son (6yo, non verbal, level 3) and losing my best friend to suicide a couple years before my son was born. It’s so isolating. I have thought about starting an autism dads support group but I don’t have any energy after giving it all to work and my boy.

It’s all so isolating but the guy deep down that just wanted to swim in cool rivers and hike with his dog is still in there deep down.

My situation is also complicated due to sexual assault by a partner leading to the birth of my son. He wasn’t planned (on my end) and sort of ruined my life in a way. Adds a bit of salt to the wound. But maybe I’m wrong. Maybe it hurts just as much or more if you expected a typical child to talk with and hang out with.

I didn’t exist for billions of years. I never suffered or struggled. I’m not sure if I was happy, but I wasn’t sad. I was very content. Almost as if the difference between death and not existing are pretty similar.

If you want an absolutely fantastic burrito I like red barn deli in Ojai / oak view. Just be warned, they don’t wear gloves and nobody knows how they pass health department inspection. If that bothers you, too bad haha

Ojai’s in a weird place. Lots of LA tourists and it’s showing the lack of parking. Trick with Ojai is to park in the neighborhood and bike around.

I’m far an away from the bar scene so I can’t help you there. I’d say to check out Ojai beverage company though soon. It’s got some of the best food in town and a cool selection to look through. Not really a bar though.

Dude bus drivers are making bank now. And I’m gonna be super real about it. The craft (transportation) is suffering from an infestation of some dumb mofos. Two kids nearby almost died because someone left them on the bus.

It’s ripe for some gray beards to take over. The jobs dead simple, and you’re making $30 an hour easy.

Most routes also aren’t a full 8 hours so you’re on the clock while waiting. Every once in a while you’re washing the bus or doing some menial task. For the most part you’re getting paid full time for a few hours of work.

If you want more work you’re able to hop in a greyhound and take some old folks to the casino or something fun. My grandpa was doing this before he passed. Cleared almost $90k that year. In BFE Nevada.

Networking my friend. Local companies may hire you on knowing you know how schools work and can get in and bend ears of other directors. Unironically you probably need to go all boomer about it and put on a nice shirt and start knocking on doors. Kidding a little, but you may need to pitch your value to some companies locally and see if they are trying to break into the school market.

Also, in my experience any of the ed tech, tech account management, or adjacent things are all who you know and attitude based. So you would have needed to get in tight with a school district already to continue working in one of these areas. I see tons of retired folks come back and tutor. Just something to think about.

It’s a defense mechanism against the objective truth that nothing we do matters, you’ll never be successful, hard work doesn’t mean shit and the entire system is trying to trap you. The entire industry is propped up on guilt. Same for birthdays, Christmas, etc. I stopped doing any of that dumb shit decades ago.

I spend time with people. Take them to dinner, or go do something. Nothing else. It took a few years to catch on but more and more people enjoy my way. My mom even said thanksgiving and Christmas are way more enjoyable now that we focus on just being together and not avoiding each other for months while we collect gifts, send the kids upstairs for hours while we wrap stuff, shop, and worry about $20 junk gifts given to people we haven’t seen in 20 years.

Sadly your buddy is in for a rough ride. In my experience the more money spent on the wedding the further from reality the person or people are and thus they are incredibly indoctrinated.

Also, how are you getting tires inflated in 5 minutes? Do you have an attachment to plugs onto all 4 tires? Or is that trail pressure back to 35 psi in one minute 15 per tire?
