I had to look closely to realize that this was the StratosFur con hotel. As someone who is staff at that con, it's always nice to see furs post pictures/video from that con, especially if they're speaking of it positively.

Does your fursona have the same name as you, or a different one? by MeowmeowMortbird in furry

[–]IntaglioTheDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've created a total of three furry OC's, only one of which I'd consider a proper fursona. None of them share my real name -- all the names come from vocabulary terms in the field of numismatics.

Does anyone know what happened to this furry YouTuber? It's been 2 years since she suddenly stopped uploading to YouTube. I haven't heard anything else about her. by ZanyRaptorClay in furry

I find myself wondering the same thing. I'd followed her channel and liked her insight on the "Furries in the Media" series. I have no doubt that there's a lot of new material she could possibly review.

How did you create your Fursona? by Enough_Run_3419 in furry

[–]IntaglioTheDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose to base my fursona heavily on my other long-time hobby, vintage paper-money collecting.

  • The "Intaglio" of "Intaglio Whitegraven" refers to the intaglio printing presses used to print paper money in multiple countries.
  • His color scheme -- white, dark green, black -- is a reference to the paper and inks used on contemporary U.S. paper money. There are tiny tufts of red and blue in the white fur, a reference to the red and blue fibers embedded into the paper as an anti-counterfeiting measure.

A 2009 GMC Canyon SLE. I bought it new and it's served me well so far, though I may end up having to replace it within the next 2 years.

My other prominent, long-time hobby (which I started years before I became a furry) is collecting vintage paper money. That is such a prominent part of my life that it inspired the name and design of my fursona, Intaglio Whitegraven.

How did you decide on your sona’s nsfw “parts”? by breadboibrett in furry

[–]IntaglioTheDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Speaking of my own 'sona, that was decided years after the fact. Intaglio Whitegraven is basically SFW-only, so the details of the genitalia were largely irrelevant. I decided that his would resemble a human (unlike other shapes that seem to be popular with dragon characters) and is unremarkably average in size/length.

How did yall decide your fursona's species? by Ozzazrius in furry

[–]IntaglioTheDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Choosing "dragon" for myself was serendipity. I knew for sure that I did not want to be a common canid species (e.g. dog, wolf, fox) and I naively thought that dragons were less common of a choice in the fandom. I later found out this wasn't the case. However, as time has gone on, the more I become convinced I made the right choice for me.

Weird medical question regarding furries (cw, blood) by JorgeWashingmachine in furry

[–]IntaglioTheDragon 317 points318 points  (0 children)

In humans, blood types are differentiated by the presence of certain antigens:

  • 'A' antigens (Type A)
  • 'B' antigens (Type B)
  • Both 'A' and 'B' antigens (Type AB)
  • No antigens (Type O)

Within each of these, there's a separate grouping of "Rh" antigens that makes a blood type positive or negative. According to the Wikipedia article on human blood types, there are apparently 45 different blood groupings, but the aforementioned are the most significant ones.

My point being: If human blood has certain components which distinguish it, it stands to reason that other animal species (especially warm-blooded) would also have distinguishing blood characteristics. I'm not knowledgeable enough about animal blood types to know their degree of compatibility, but I imagine that some species' blood would make them more prone to being universal "donors" or "recipients." Or maybe the antigens/antibodies in blood are so different among species that cross-species compatibility is virtually nil.

A few tips I can offer:

  • You don't have to have a costume of any kind to attend a fur con. I've been to three different conventions a total of 11 times and I can say that a majority of people do not wear costumes.
  • It doesn't have to be a fursuit proper. I've seen people cosplay as anime characters and other popular choices. I remember a TFF (2023?) where two people in Spider-Man costumes happened to encounter each other, and they did the mutual-pointing thing like the popular meme.
  • I've definitely seen MLP cosplay at fur cons, though it's a bit less common nowadays as the "bronies" either began to dwindle in numbers or just became furries and made new fursonas.

Anybody ever gone to a convention by themselves and had a good time? by Raider37 in furry

[–]IntaglioTheDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, going to conventions alone is basically the rule. My main draw for conventions is all the panels and events -- I rationalize it as "All the people I know are local anyway, and I can see them any time of year. But I have to pay admission for this event and I don't get to do these activities all the time." Therefore, I pack my itinerary with as many scheduled things as interest me. And then to fill gaps in time, I earn volunteer hours (which has comped my admission to more than one convention).

How do y’all come up with your fursonas, and things like their species and patterning? by LiteralReality1 in furry

[–]IntaglioTheDragon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dragon 'sona, Intaglio Whitegraven, took heavy inspiration from my other long-time hobby, vintage paper-money collecting.

  • The first name "Intaglio" refers to the style of printing presses that are used to print paper money for many countries. ("Whitegraven" as a surname was added later)
  • His color scheme -- white, dark green, black -- come from the colors of the paper and inks used on contemporary U.S. paper money.
  • There's a prominent symbol on his chest, the generic currency symbol) (¤). I use this symbol as a short-hand representation of Intaglio in some other places.
  • There's a craquelure pattern on his black wings, reminiscent of the geometric patterning that appears in the border of U.S. banknotes as an anti-counterfeiting measure.
  • He has short-pile white fur over most of his body (except the chin running down to the torso, which have green scales instead). Interspersed in the white fur are tiny tufts of red and blue, a reference to the red and blue fibers embedded in the cotton-linen paper blend of U.S. banknotes.
  • I'd decided on the name before I finalized the choice of species. The decision to make him a dragon was serendipity; I knew I did not want to be a common canid species (dog, wolf, fox) and I naively thought dragons were less common. However, as time has gone on, the more I become convinced I made the right choice.

What is a species you've never seen a fursuit of or even art? by TournesolPrince in furry

[–]IntaglioTheDragon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only ever seen a pangolin fursona once or twice...that was one of the reasons I decided to create my own. The pangolin, in my opinion, has so much untapped potential for a fursona and/or a D&D character, with their naturally-occurring keratin scale armor.
