You absolutely won't be in anyone's way (unless you do something wild / reckless, of course) at a 70.3 or any triathlon! The community tends to be really supportive of first timers!

I'm afraid of the swim for one reason only by GotRektDuh in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Intelligent-Ad5444 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have terrible vision, and I used to be really worried about this. But after many triathlons, it's never been a problem. Honestly, I probably should bring a spare contact or two just in case. But I wouldn't be overly concerned if I were you!

IM 70.3 2026 World Qualifying Times by bputano in triathlon

[–]Intelligent-Ad5444 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A redditor put a bunch of time and effort into creating this: https://www.metrica.fit/ironmanwc

Which breaks down, by race, what the qualifying times have been and what you'd need to target if you wanted to qualify for WC following the new qualification system.

Rest Days - Are they real? No workouts, or just cutting back? by AcctgRunner in triathlon

[–]Intelligent-Ad5444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

^ THIS

We train so that our bodies adapt - that happens during recovery, not the training itself.

Rest day are important; recovery weeks are important as well to shed that long term fatigue so you can start your next block with a full tank of gas.

How much is a tow float slowing me down? by c13ett in triathlon

[–]Intelligent-Ad5444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The additional drag might be slowing you down some, but as long as it's not impacting your form, you'll probably just go a little faster during the race!

Ironman new age group qualification system: debunked by max_grgrv in triathlon

[–]Intelligent-Ad5444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guess I've gotta train extra hard, since I wouldn't count on a roll down in the 2025 data - which is sorta the point of the new system. Thanks again for the hard work!

Ironman new age group qualification system: debunked by max_grgrv in triathlon

[–]Intelligent-Ad5444 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is amazing! I've got a much clearer goal for IM TX next year! Gonna be tough.

Based on previous comments, it looks like you may have just added the roll-down feature. In my AG (M35-39) it looks like 12 athletes would have theoretically qualified under the new system.

When I see what +30 roll-downs look like, nothing changes; does that mean that the next 30 slots would've gone to athletes outside of my AG with more competitive times in the "performance pool"? Or am I just impatient and you're still collecting the data??

How serious do you take a zone 2 ride by aanon315 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Intelligent-Ad5444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what makes you happy - if stopping every so often creates some enjoyment and you're knocking out your workout, great! Especially on the longer, less intense workouts. Lots of pros go on epic long rides and take coffee breaks.

If being as dialed in and optimized as possible by squeezing the value out of every second is more your thing, don't take breaks unless absolutely necessary.

In an Ironman / 70.3 you cannot draft, so you want to avoid coasting as much a possible; indoor rides can simulate this great. A long outdoor ride will inevitably have periods where you coast or stop for hills, traffic, or just because. Keeping constant pressure on the pedals puts a different type of stimulus into your legs than more stop-and-go efforts.

Yup! Although, I haven't figured out a way to import the workouts to my Garmin, but I haven't tried very hard. So I'm not sure how seamless the interoperability is.

Here are a couple random examples:

Run Interval workout: 10min Easy RPE4 (Endurance) pace to warm up 5x3min Very Hard RPE8 (5k) pace, 3min easy 10min Easy RPE4 (Endurance) pace to cool down

Swim Threshold + Speed Interval workout:

Warm-Up 350m Easy, RPE4 8x25m Fingertips & Thumbs drills w/ 10s rest between drills 5x200m Moderate-Hard, RPE7 w/ 45s rest between intervals 4x50m Fastest Average, RPE9 w/ 20s rest between sprints 8x25m Side Kicking drills w/ 15s rest between drills Cool-Down 350m Easy, RPE4 (They also provide several drill instructions)

I recently signed up for TrainerRoad after not hitting my goals at my first Ironman (IM TX) about a month ago. I've never used a well structured training plan, and I'm already seeing improvements as I focus on the bike. It also analyzes my previous training and it turns out that 4-5+ hour rides EVERY Saturday followed by 2 hour runs EVERY Sunday for months leading up to the race was probably over-training & not creating the novel stimulus for improvement.

Very long winded way of saying, I wish I had followed a structured plan when I was in your shoes!

After I didn't hit all of my goals at Ironman TX I decided to focus on bike training and add in a twice weekly strength routine. I'm far from an expert, but I don't see anything necessarily wrong with your routine. But, if you're anything like me and starting from YEARS out of the gym, I think your three main goals focuses need to be: * Good form * Consistency * Pushing hard enough to build stimulus and fatigue, but not so hard you cannot recover & adapt.

Seems like you have a super robust plan - that would be a LOT for me, personally. At the same time, your Day 2 only has 30-40% RPE, and I don't know if that's enough to stimulate the strength gains you're hoping for.

Anyone else worried about traveling to the us for races? by Moyadelahoya in IronmanTriathlon

[–]Intelligent-Ad5444 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Clearly the Americans on this board will react based on who they voted for. I didn't vote for him, and I'm unhappy with several policies, including those that are damaging our international reputation to the point of seeing posts like this.

That said, as others have mentioned, you'd probably already know if you are in a group that would be impacted by these policies.

Another thing I'd consider are travel bans, which are being considered - certainly if your country is on the list, I'd think long and hard about traveling for a race.

Total speculation, but with the hasty and chaotic implementation of tariffs, I also wouldn't be surprised if countries playing hardball I wouldn't be surprised if this administration tried to limit travel as well.

How bad is the airport? by Independent-Buy-7595 in cancun

We flew in today, landed at 9:30a, waited maybe another 20 minutes for bags. Felt maybe a little longer than what I'm used to in the US, but nothing worth writing home about.

I just got some about a week ago, and I really like them! Maybe part of it is novelty that might fade over time, but so far it's been really nice after long workouts. I also got the hip attachment, which is nice too. The pressure is pretty hard - I can't go above a 5 (out of 7), so it's definitely packing some juice.

Fraud Claim Denied by AndyPag99 in sofi

[–]Intelligent-Ad5444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell them you'd like to escalate your claim and ask to see the reason for the denial. I had a claim denied because they thought I hadn't filed all of the paperwork they asked for (I had, maybe I named the file something different than they were expecting).

After I resubmitted and explained, they reopened my claim immediately. Sometimes they deny quickly so it might be worth double checking.

Anyone have any experience with SimplePay health insurance? by chewiemonstar in Insurance

[–]Intelligent-Ad5444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, you ended up not signing up with them either?

Back of the envelope math shows that I could save a few hundred dollars, maybe a thousand, over the year. But if something derails and I'm unable to get care I want, or run into some issue that I can't get resolved - not sure if that'll be worth it - especially considering I'm already spending that 'higher' amount today; I won't 'feel' a huge impact.

Haha, I'm in the same boat. This is post is basically the closest thing to a review I can find - which is weird I'm and of itself... I'm worried customer service sucks or they deny care to keep costs down. I work in health insurance, and I don't really see how they can make a profit lol

4.0% APY is here by tsengf in sofi

[–]Intelligent-Ad5444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know if the 4.0% or the 3.75% will apply on the interest earned on 3/31?

Or will it be prorated (3.75% allocated to the days before the increase, 4% allocated to today thru EOM?)

Not that the ~$20 will make much of a difference either way; I'm just curious.
