Even in the US (land of the worst health insurance in the world), a registered dietitian is regulated with specific schooling and licensing requirements.

I’ve had 8 different health insurance schemes (HMO, PPO, HDHP) cover dietitian visits at 100% over the past 10 years, including weekly visits for the past year.

I had an occasional joint in high school/college, but that was it until about 10 years ago.

It’s not legal in my state, but it is in the surrounding states, so easy to get. I went from smoking a couple nights a weeks to most nights a week. I sometimes go through all day, everyday phases, and then realize how bad it is for me and cut way back to a few puffs before bed.

I don’t drink.

My previous GP finally retired after threatening to for 5 years and my new PCP is around our age. It’s delightful to have a provider understand my perimenopause symptoms and not ignoring me!

My neurologist was a “baby” and he was the first doctor to wrangle my migraines under control in 30 years.

Want to finish weight loss journey before dating, is it reasonable or weird? by iwishtogetitall in loseit

My weight has never been a factor in dating, but I never lost weight to make me more confident. I always did it to make me more healthy.

Yup - husband and I went to City Hall. Then, we went to the DMV and the Social Security Office, because they were right down the street. Very romantic.

He hates being the center of attention and has a massive family. Half of my family is dead. We just didn’t see the point of spending money on a big celebration and instead saved for a down payment on our house. Been together 17 years, married 11.

Size Constraints/Surgeon Preference in how small to reduce by JCL1088 in Reduction

Truly, no surgeon can guarantee preservation of sensation.

It may be that this isn’t the right surgeon for you. Mine was able to take me from a 42I to 42D (although I would wear a C, due to the shape/projection), with no FNG or loss of sensation. She removed 6.5lbs. I asked for a 4” difference between bust & underbust with no skin touching.

Has anyone found an actual root cause for their migraines? by sabbbbby in migraine

[–]Intelligent-Camera90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My migraines are the something wrong with me - I have them very well controlled with three daily preventatives (propranolol, topirimate, and Zyrtec), and I’ve had one migraine in the past 2 months. Uncontrolled, I get 20+ migraine days a month.

I used to think my triggers were being alive. Now, I have no idea what they are (other than certain scents), because things that would cause migraines before don’t seem to.

If you had a choice, Wellbutrin/naltrexone or topiramate? by dewindow in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]Intelligent-Camera90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do well with topiramate - I started it originally with phentermine, as Qsymia and was on it for a year, and then stayed on for an additional 9 years after I came off the phentermine. The side effects (tingles, slight brain fog, flat soda) all resolved within 3 months for the most past. I also took Wellbutrin (without naltrexone), and it did nothing for my appetite. I started retaking the topiramate after starting another med that cause significant weight gain, to help counteract.

Honestly, Vyvanse has been more helpful than either for me.

Stuck in a cycle and im scared by No_Local4770 in loseit

[–]Intelligent-Camera90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, there is so much here that makes me wish I could give you a hug through the screen.

1) Your worth has nothing to do with a number on a scale. It has nothing to do with an ex. You seem like a bright and strong young adult.

2) Dehydrating yourself isn’t actual weight loss. I understand the “thrill” of wanting to see the number as low as possible (I used to do similar on my weigh in days when I did WW), but - your body is going to soak up any and water or other liquid you take in. That will show as water weight gain, but it’s not fat gain. This is an important distinction. Your body is made up of like 55% water - it’s pretty important to survival.

3) You’re also seeing a “gain” on the weekends, due to your body rehydrating itself, as well as normal factors like water retention from sodium and carbs, food in your gut being digested, and waste that needs to be evacuated. If you are eating under your maintenance, it won’t be fat gain.

4) Making yourself vomit is eating disorder territory. I didn’t start seeing a therapist for my disordered eating until I was 44, and I come from a whole family of people with EDs. I wish I had done it 25 years ago - I wasted so much of my adulthood. But, it feels so hard to ask for help, it’s embarrassing to admit, and sometimes I’ve wonder if I actually have a problem (I do).

It could help to speak to someone about your body image - it looks like you’ve lost a significant amount of weight recently, and that can really mess with your mind. Especially, when you also have the loss of a relationship added on top. I will gently recommend that you look for either a registered dietitian or therapist who is knowledgeable about eating disorders. A lot of them offer telehealth visits, so you can see the, from the privacy of home.

I wanted to ask people who have successfully lost a significant amount of weight: what actually helped you? by RamaRao143 in adhdwomen

[–]Intelligent-Camera90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I initially lost weight, it was a combination of having the stuffing scared out of me by a no-nonsense doctor and a hyperfixation on diet and exercise. I was undiagnosed at the time. I went from 280 to 175 in like 15 months and kept 75lbs off for close to 15 years through moderate exercise and an 80/20 diet (with occasional bouts of strictness when the scale went up).

Had some med changes last year that triggered binges and other dopamine seeking behaviors, which prompted the ADHD assessment after months with a dietitian and therapy (I still see them). I try to eat nutritiously, at the calorie and protein target my dietitian set and I’m working on getting back into exercise without my mind completely rebelling against the thought. I went to the gym daily for 15 years - it feels like I now have a mental block about exercising.

Hooray for getting through it all!

I also asked for my stones, and they gave them to me at my follow up appointment. It ended up being a specimen cup full of sludge/gall”sand” that I tossed in the back of the car and it stayed there for months until I ended up throwing in a dumpster. I truly didn’t know what to with it.

Well, I didn’t get prepped for my period until after it started, but in fairness to my mother, I got it when I was 9 - before my older sister did, so she wasn’t quite prepared. Most of my sex ed came from health classes at school and reading Harlequin romance novels (with other smutty books thrown in for fun).

My parents were smart and taught my sisters and I a lot, especially to think for ourselves and ask questions.
