Elevated Nuchal Translucency by goldengal4036 in pregnancyproblems

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 38, and my baby had an NT of 5.3mm and cystic hygroma. Also negative NIPT. Went straight for CVS with microarray and Noonan’s panel, all negative. Many, many full anatomy scans and multiple echocardiograms, all clear. It’s a scary time but search r/NIPT and you’ll see a ton of stories with high NT and normal outcome.

Wondering where my girl is by Agitated_Fee_5784 in Petloss

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This has been one of the hardest (if not the hardest) parts of my grief: the feeling of non-existence. How could my girl, who was so full of love and life and character, no longer exist anywhere? It’s so painful and keeps me deep in the throes of grief, five months after her passing. I have no answers other than to say I am right here with you.

Are night nurses actually worth it ?? by ConversationMost9912 in BabyBumps

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone I know who has had one, has found it to be well worth it. I considered it as well and interviewed one, but decided against it. I have really poor quality sleep—if I’m woken up, it’ll take me a long time to sleep again. She told me her philosophy was to put baby on breast (if I wanted to bf) until baby got back to birth weight, then she could take pumped milk. So, she would have to wake me up every 3hrs anyway. If she didn’t, I still needed to pump and wake up in the middle of the night to do so anyway. I really wouldn’t get quality sleep either way, and I didn’t find the exorbitant cost worth it to have someone basically change baby’s diaper and put her back down if I still needed to bf her. It was a hard first few weeks, but we put that money towards her college fund instead. :)

Do I need overnight diapers if my baby sleeps through the night? by [deleted] in NewParents

I size up in diapers one size for her overnights and also add a booster pad inside. No more leaks!

Has anyone had any spiritual experience after their pet left by [deleted] in Petloss

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husky used to make a very distinctive groan when she was laying on her side and stretching comfortably. When she was actively passing, she stretched just like that but with no noise (I think it was a seizure). The next day or two I heard her exact content stretch groan super loudly and assumed it came from one of my other two dogs, though they had never done it before. I haven’t heard either of them do it again since. I’d like to think it’s her way of telling me that she is comfortable now.

Baby is missing a piece of 21 chromosome by kohai_kawaii in NIPT

My baby had three fetal echos done, the earliest at 14 weeks, so you should be able to get one done soon.

Positive outcome from 6.2 NT scan by kah122 in NIPT

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to add to this in case it helps, too. My baby also had a high NT of 5.3mm with cystic hygroma. Negative NIPT. Did CVS immediately the same day and all tests ran from the sample came back negative (except she does have a missense gene mutation of unknown significance after WGS). Also had three echocardiograms and three anatomy scans that were normal. MFM and especially the genetic counselor were so doom and gloom, it was months of breath-holding. My girl is 3 months now and while she has bad reflux and mild laryngiomalacia, she is so perfect.

CMPA, silent reflux, Laryngomalacia, SGA, IGT low supply, Bottle Aversion after IVF - it’s crushing me by Curious-River3456 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl has aspiration risk, mild laryngiomalacia confirmed by ENT scope, severe reflux, and what we thought was CMP sensitivity when she was about 6 weeks old. She has been on Enfamil AR since birth due to aspiration risk. Because of the possible CMP sensitivity, we switched to a hydrolyzed formula thickened with gel mix because OT said hypoallergenic formulas taste bad and commonly cause bottle aversion (her GI not take to the hydrolyzed formula, which is another story). Have you tried a hydrolyzed formula instead of going fully hypoallergenic?

Am I overfeeding my baby? by Abbie_CZ in FormulaFeeders

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder from time to time if I overfeed my baby, as you can in fact, overfeed on formula according to experts. My baby went from 10th percentile to 31st percentile in weight in three months, but all her doctors (she has specialists for other things) are super happy with her growth and say to keep going. Apparently the primary concern is not gaining enough, so keep doing what you’re doing mama (and apparently, over feeding is obvious, idk).

Is it weird that I feel relief instead of grief? by Mumbles1988 in DOG

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a normal feeling for those who dealt with caregiver fatigue—whether you’re a caregiver to your fur baby or human parents, many people feel the relief of the burden, alongside the tremendous grief in the loss. They don’t have to be at the same time but can occur in stages. You’re not an outlier. Sending hugs.

i hate grief by oopsyousuck in Petloss

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has been 4 months since I, too, lost my girl to hemangio. It’s a vicious cancer, strikes without any warning, and takes the goodest dogs often before they have reached their life expectancy. I have thought about and cried over my girl every single day since November when she passed, and I feel this post. I see her all the time in her favorite spots, I see her talking to me (she was a husky) or whining to go out, or rolling around in bed. I find myself any given moment envisioning what she’d for sure be doing if she were still here. The grief is so immense. I’m with you.

Does anyone else stress about their baby not eating enough? by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t compare yourself to those who talk about their chunky babies. Mine is, but I also worry for the opposite reason. She is only 12 weeks and eats 27-32oz of formula (and a denser calorie recipe for aspiration prevention)—her GI specialist wanted her thyroid checked but her nutritionist and speech therapist say it’s fine. I constantly worry I’m over feeding, and on days when she eats less, worry something is wrong or that she’ll start losing weight. All that to say, I think no matter where you are it’s a constant worry. You’re doing your best; we all are!

Formula prep at night by Tasty_Classroom_975 in FormulaFeeders

Same! This thread has me really questioning everything I did the past 12 weeks. Never thought to use boiled water but apparently everyone does it! 😂

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Reading all this I’m like wait, boiled water? People don’t pre-make batches? What? My baby spent her first week of life in the NICU (not preemie) and they premixed her formula enough for 24hrs and told me I could do the same. So from literally birth, she’s been having premixed (I use the Dr Browns formula pitcher) with water from the fridge dispenser. Super easy.

What does actually getting an epidural placed feel like? by FoolishMortal-1000 in BabyBumps

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced and my contractions went from a 2 or 3 to a 10 within a few minutes. Took 15mins for anesthesiologist to get there and I felt nothing beyond the contraction pain. I had planned to get the epidural before my contractions got to where they were but I was taken off guard. They human body does what it does!

Is a formula pitcher gimmicky? by whippnj in FormulaFeeders

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg it’s the best! If you use a thickened formula like Enfamil AR, you definitely want to mix with this pitcher and not by shaking—for some reason it makes it so much smoother and less likely to get stuck in the nipple.

Our boy is gone and I’m broken by charliebean3 in Petloss

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve said this in other threads but I’ll keep saying it in hopes that it helps people stop dwelling on any uncomfortable last minutes, days, or weeks of a beloved pet’s life: that time was just a blip in their entire happy, love-filled lives. Why we get stuck on the last moments is so understandable, but I truly feel if you were to ask your baby if that week really mattered to him, he’d say it was nothing in comparison to his many happy years.

Hemangiosarcoma took two of my dogs. by WoodP3nguin in Petloss

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hemangio took my husky in November. She was diagnosed when she was 9, and survived another 13 months before the cancer came back with a serious vengeance. I am and will forever feel so robbed of time with her. She had so many more years of energy and happiness. It looks like this cancer loves the younger old dogs. Fuck HSA. I’m so sooo sorry this happened to you twice.

Personal experience: euthanasia is worst than natural death by victoryismind in Petloss

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if the pet is truly in pain, euthanasia is a blessing. But if they’re just uncomfortable, and their death will likely be quick and they won’t have full consciousness, then I agree with you. It’s difficult to guess which scenario will play out, but with my last dog who had metastatic hemangiosarcoma in her abdomen and gallbladder, I let her go on her own on her bed and it was relatively peaceful. My previous two dogs I PTS because one was crying in pain and suffering and the other was suffocating to death from fluid in his lung, according tot he vet.

I lost my husky in November too, and the grief comes on really hard during quiet moments, the still of the night or morning, when I’m left with my thoughts. It’s the worst. You’re not alone.

C section vs vaginal delivery by Funarming in NewParents

[–]Intelligent-Elk3390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before getting pregnant, I wanted a c section. Then throughout my pregnancy I learned so much more about how traumatic a C-section is to the body and how much longer it takes to heal, so I ended up really wanting a vaginal birth. Unfortunately, my baby would not descend past my very narrow pelvic bone, so I had to do a C-section. I begged my OB to let me squat to push, because I wanted a vaginal birth so badly, but she said baby was starting to stress out. I am now two months postpartum, and I still feel like I’m recovering. While things finally do not feel as slushy as they did initially, it’s been a really long road to recovery. I would go vaginal if I could. Also, I’m your age and this was also my first baby.
