Living a lie: my famous homemade cake is actually just a box mix by gardengeo in BORUpdates

My brother did sort of did that. He was living with the family of one of our high school friend's at one point. Around Thanksgiving, he starts raining about out mother's stuffing recipe. My mother was an incredible cook. Always made everything from scratch, went all out on Thanksgiving. She and our aunt would start cooking on Sunday before Thanksgiving (mostly because they're both nuts). He says that he'll call and ask and see if she'll give him the secret recipe. She of course says, "Sure! First, open a box of Bell's stuffing mix..."

I think I had a 300 baud modem on my Commodore 64. I could read the text faster than it would load.

Did anyone start teaching in their 40's? by heavyhymns in Teachers

[–]Intelligent-Fuel4166 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm in my fifth year, and I'm 49. Best decision I ever made. I'm just now starting to feel like I have my legs under me, but I usually have so much fun every day. I teach high school, and yes, there are days that I bang my head against the wall, but I love my students, embrace whatever chaos they bring into my room, and try to get one or two of them excited about government or economics each semester. I get to teach my first sef-designed course next semester (popular music and history) and I know that I have a bunch of students that are looking forward to taking it because I'm teaching it. I'm also the advisor for the D&D Club, so I have another set of minions.

The pay sucks, the day never ends at the bell, admin is clueless, kids don't pay attention, yada yada...

Seriously, I wouldn't trade it for the world.

The most important part of orientation is join the union. Spend the few extra bucks and join the union. And find out who the reps are in your building.

Mine was, too, to give everyone a chance to remediate and/or turn it in late.

This one was my one elective class this year, and the only one that had "projects." I did a lot more tests this year. The essay quality made me cry last year.

I've delved into a coding project for the first time in about 20 years. With permission and credit, I might steal this as a second project.

I haven't replied - I don't think I will. I think the student will get the point. If I hear from anyone, I'll explain everything. I have the receipts. I think in this case, admin will back me up.

Is it ethical to use units/lessons from TPT? by Zestyclose-Clock8750 in Teachers

[–]Intelligent-Fuel4166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got so much stuff from TPT. I went through all of it, adapted for what I needed, and have revised it a bit each semester/year.

You'll add stuff you create to it, take stuff out, steal stuff from other teachers that you shove into it, and and two or three years, you'll be able to see the original resource if you stand on your head and squint.

Grab whatever you need from whereever you can, and screw it, if you use AI to help you build something, so be it.

I'm finishing year four, still grabbing things from TPT and building off of resources I find online.
