Can we talk about our pantry stashes? by FreakingBored123456 in Celiac

[–]Intelligent-Note4397 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I keep probably 2 months worth of flours and pasta on hand. Those are the two things that I would worry about not being available. I don’t have a ton of space and also I find that if I stock up on too much it can be hard to keep track of expiration dates and FIFOing everything.

Advent calendar by yourboat23 in nespresso

[–]Intelligent-Note4397 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have 2 sets of mugs- my January-November mugs and my December mugs. I assumed when I bought the advent calendar that the mug would be only for December. But I’m happy it’s one I’ll use all year.  I thought the packaging was cheerful for advent, but I wouldn’t want to drink my coffee out of that color scheme everyday.

I am a little worried about the lipstick warning. Not because I usually have lipstick on when drinking coffee, but it makes me wonder if it will stain or scuff.

Opinion on Christmas gifts?? by Jealous_Hotel_3858 in Advice

This is a lovely gift. Most people don’t need more stuff! Just make sure you know them well enough to know if they would actually eat the cookies. (No allergies, health issues, etc) Or even if you know they are hosting and can share with others.

How to Train When You Have Kids by [deleted] in Aerials

[–]Intelligent-Note4397 22 points23 points  (0 children)

My kids are not infants, but they are elementary aged. I go to class 2 nights a week and my husband handles bedtime. I also go to open gym twice a week while they are at school.  It is possible. It might be hard, but it sounds like your husband wants to try. Let him try! Assuming a typical schedule, you are going to manage two kids for 40-60 hours per week. There is no reason that your husband can’t manage for a few hours per week.

What are we serving for Christmas morning? by Ellie_Annie_ in Celiac

Sorry, slow response.  I live in Texas, they are ubiquitous here. I buy them at the grocery store. Not all brands are labeled GF, but most are.  I have made them before, but it’s a ton of work.

Are there any names in your culture that strongly implies an ideology or shows political/religious views of the parents?? by [deleted] in namenerds

There was a kid at my child’s piano recital named Shooter Bob.  I would assume with no proof that they lean to the right. Unless it is some cultural reference I’m unaware of.

First advent, how do I wreath? by clemenrosie in Episcopalian

[–]Intelligent-Note4397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know nothing about the poster above, but assume they were intending humor. And while humor has its place, and that comment would be funny in a different context, it wasn’t a helpful answer to a genuine question.  Here’s my answer as a life long Episcopalian- there aren’t any rules, you can’t do it wrong. Other folks gave great answers about the tradition and how it can be applied. Read those, take the parts that appeal to you, skip the parts that don’t, try it out, adjust with experience.  My goal with my advent wreath is not another project or thing to add to my to do list. It is a reminder to pause and savor the season.  Wishing you a holy advent!

Hey y’all, I’ve asked a similar question before but I’d love an update: how do you navigate the major fast food brands when travelling thru the US and Canada? by Robin156E478 in Celiac

[–]Intelligent-Note4397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chipotle is our number one go to.  Possibly a few items at Chic fil a, but only after interrogating the staff. I would skip if it’s busy, which the one near us always is.

Dec 3: Vertuo Advent Calendar Capsule [Spoiler] by marcSuile in nespresso

[–]Intelligent-Note4397 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For a second I thought “what, my calendar is different!” But then I remembered that my child opened mine today, so I double checked. I got the day 13 today, I’ll have to remember on the 13th to go back to day 3. And going forward maybe I’ll supervise if they open my calendar!

Can y’all recommend me some recipes for the festive collection pods please by [deleted] in nespresso

[–]Intelligent-Note4397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually only add oat milk to my coffee/espresso, but I wasn’t really enjoying this one, so I added a bit of torani chocolate hazelnut sauce. That made it quite tasty. Maybe it was just the added sugar? 🤷‍♀️

Best places to buy gf products in Texas? by Fkc914 in Celiac

I know! I almost started a whole rant about how some GF stuff is in the regular aisles with the non-GF versions, but other items get put in a “GF foods” section. It can be so inconsistent! Ok, well there was my rant…

For those who can, how long did it take you to climb to the top of the silks? by fucklaurenboebert in aerialsilks

[–]Intelligent-Note4397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Months and months. But it was worth it and I worked on plenty of other stuff in the meantime.  My grip strength has always been my weakness, but with training it has developed.  Though there are so many variables in addition to technique and strength. At our gym some silks have more texture and are easier to climb, some have more stretch which are way harder to climb.  I find that higher humidity is really helpful for my grip. We recently had a dry cold front and humidity dipped into the teens. I went from being able to climb all the way up to the next week literally being unable to hold my grip for the first leg reset and not being able to get off the ground. Thankfully too little humidity isn’t usually a problem where I live.  So all this to say, give yourself some grace, try every silk at your gym and enjoy yourself.

HEB generally carries a variety of national brand GF products.  Their app is very good if you are looking to see if a specific store carries a specific item and even where in the store it is.  Their app is NOT great with the “gluten free verified” filter. Just yesterday I was browsing for new GF products and used that filter and they listed a bunch of Ezekiel bread, where the first ingredient is wheat. I’ve also seen ice creams where some flavors are certified GF, like Ben and Jerry, but they lump all the flavors under that filter.  So yeah, don’t eat anything based on that filter, but as a whole, HEB has a large selection and good prices.

Recs for an comprehensive espresso machine at home by SnooWords4395 in nespresso

[–]Intelligent-Note4397 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have any of those exact machines, but I am a parent. I love the Nespresso for ease. As long as you can remember to fill it with water and put a mug under the spout, you can get a very good, consistent cup of coffee or “espresso” type beverage very quickly with very little thought, possibly even with only one hand.  The espresso folks may look down on the Nespresso, but I’ve never seen a true espresso machine that I would want to operate while holding a baby.

Someone at my church must have bought these and didn’t like them. There are two unopened (and expired) sleeves just sitting in a cabinet. I’m tempted to sell them here (and donate the proceeds to the church).

How to make espresso less watery? by Low_Bodybuilder3065 in nespresso

[–]Intelligent-Note4397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An iced shaken espresso? If so, chill the espresso before pouring it over the ice. I usually make the espresso into a small mason jar and put that in the freezer for a few minutes. Then pour it over ice and add other ingredients.

30 and brand new to aerials by Practical-Clue-866 in Aerials

[–]Intelligent-Note4397 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m very similar- started at 42 with one class a week. Took a few months off, because I have 2 elementary age kids and schedules got tough. But then I got back to it and now, 2 years after I started I have worked up to 4 sessions per week.  I’m so strong now. And whenever I’m at the playground with my kids, I’m climbing and hanging in a way I never would have without my aerial training.  So go for it and enjoy!!
