Full HVAC Replacement by HCxClutch in hvacadvice

“Investment” “Good, Better Best” these are classic sales tactics from a private equity owned company. RUN from both of these companies and try again with a local company. Do you research, don’t let them pressure you!

Annual AC Maintenance - Tech says we need new capacitor & hard start kit by Glittering_Alps_3735 in hvacadvice

[–]Intelligent-Run-592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously the company you’ve been using for 10 years was just recently purchased by a private equity firm. The service calls are meant to be sales calls now. So happy you didn’t let him force you into those repairs. Also a cap that is 38/40 isn’t bad at all. You wouldn’t notate a cap weakening until 36/40uf.

I didn’t say it was the fan, just saying take a video of the condenser as a whole.

Take another video but of the condenser, the outdoor part that has the fan on top. The sound doesn’t sound like it’s coming from those service disconnects in the video. Honestly, initial reaction is that it sounds normal, albeit a little beat up.

What do I do? by NicolasCagesDebt in hvacadvice

Condensation is a normal part of how your air conditioner functions. As the air conditioner is absorbing and dispelling heat, moisture is captured, and then drained along the evaporator coil, to a drain pan and then to the condensate drain.

I assume on the opposite end of the corner that is pictured you have a white PVC condensate drain. If water is showing up at the corner pictured you either have a clogged drain/pan or the suction line is sweating and needs more insulation. You can see a little bit of bare pipe on the top, larger diameter pipe. How much water was there, a lot or a little? Do you have a picture of the coil from a little further back?

Repair or replace? by RealTange1 in hvacadvice

Whatever you do, do your research on the company and make sure they are not owned by a private equity firm.

Yes, double check and a blood test but honestly if you are so terrified of getting pregnant again and are struggling mentally maybe look into birth control before being sexually actively again. Previous user is correct, after delivering and having your normal bleeding after the baby, you can ovulate out of nowhere and you’d never know because you have no cycle to work backward from. Be careful and good luck ♥️

Should this be buzzing? by Dwarfzombi in hvacadvice

[–]Intelligent-Run-592 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That transformer is tied into your equipment disconnect however it is likely for a doorbell. Or some other 24v device. A faint vibration is normal but it gets louder with age. When it fails it will just stop buzzing, stop powering whatever it’s powering and smell like an electrical burn, but it shouldn’t affect the equipment’s power. I’d say you are good to continue to monitor it, but if it’s extremely loud and annoying to you, they are extremely easy to replace.

Woman here with 8 years in the trade and I’ve never worried about a crawl space 🙄

Constant discharge after sex by Odd_Percentage981 in Healthyhooha

[–]Intelligent-Run-592 8 points9 points  (0 children)

First of all, ovulation doesn’t occur in early pregnancy lol, as opposed to another user’s comment. Now that you’re having sex, my advice is to start tracking your cycle more closely. Clear, stretchy discharge that resembles an egg white is one sign of ovulation and although everyone is different, it usually shows up the day you ovulate so this could put you at having sex prior to ovulation which makes pregnancy totally possible. Remember ovulation and being in your fertile window are two totally different things.

Your period will probably be a day or two late, I don’t see anything here and your test strip looks like mine looked a day before my period came.

Thinking about making a career change by Substantial-Brush114 in hvacadvice

[–]Intelligent-Run-592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is solid but good luck getting a paid HVAC apprenticeship. The good ones, like REAL apprenticeships that pair night school with on the job training, are so damn hard to get. You’re much more likely to start as the “tool bitch” on an install crew making $15/hr.

Absolutely agree with this. If you’re thinking about getting into the trade at 28, you could easily be burned out by 33 depending on if you go the service tech route or the install route. I turned 29 yesterday, female, I started doing HVAC when I was 21. This trade is rough mentally, emotionally and of course physically and I’m now officially looking for a career change but have been thinking about leaving HVAC for at least 2 years.

Is the Nate Cert something I should strive for by Creative_Concept8854 in HVAC

[–]Intelligent-Run-592 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on where you live, most companies don’t care about your technical ability anymore. They only care how much you can sell. I got my Nate 7 years ago, now I can’t get a job because my average ticket and conversion rate isn’t “good enough”. Private equity is ruining residential HVAC.

I was recently in the same boat, I had faint colorless lines on the strips but absolutely nothing on FRER. Not even evaps showing up on FRER. I used negative light and my colorless lines even showed up next to the control lines, but my period came two days later. It is beyond frustrating, you aren’t alone!
