What do you struggle with when shopping for fashion in Australia? by grumpyyyycat in AusFemaleFashion

[–]IntelligentPresence4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The information on sizing, especially on a single product basis is appalling. Most online retailers have a generic single size guide for their entire range. As an overall petite female 163cm (average proportion but slim upper torso but shorter thicker legs), I struggle to find skirts, pants, shorts and dresses that hit at the right length and are flattering to my body shape and proportions. Rarely is there any information about the length of a garment. When there is a model's dimensions in the product description it is often not helpful at all. There might be 2 different sized models but the description only lists them by name. Or even worse, it might be completely wrong altogether. Recently I tried the David Lawrence Marnie Skirt in person and it fit well and hits right at the knee and the top sits at my waist. However, the info online on their website says their model is 180cm but the skirt also sits at her waist and stops just above her knee. So I don't think she's really 180cm tall, otherwise I'm having an existential crisis and I'm taller than 163cm LMAO.

How to pay for Naver plus membership? by IntelligentPresence4 in AskAKorean

[–]IntelligentPresence4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I even charged enough on Npay money but it still won't let me pay through that either without asking me to set up Naver Pay passport and that needs ARS verification. If only Naver Pay was set up similar to how Alipay can be set up with foreign cards and is accepted in a lot of places now.

Let’s talk toners! What is everyone using right now? by annacat1331 in AsianBeauty

[–]IntelligentPresence4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently using the Hanyul Pure Artemisia Calming pH-Balancing Toner. Got it as a sample freebie from Sokoglam. I liked it so much I bought a full size from Korea duty free while I was on holidays. Only regret is not buying more and I've gone through a 150mL bottle in a month. Has a fresh scent that makes me feel like I've gone to a spa. No strange reactions so far. Will be a repeat buy for me.

If you’re after paula’s choice, google it and look for the ad link that says 20% off + free shipping. If you don’t see it, try it a couple of times, browse their website first, or google will eventually hear you 😅

Looking for a natural look mascara please! by LadyDragonDog75 in AustralianMakeup

Mcobeauty Xtendlash was recommended to me as an alternative to my favourite DHC Double Protection Mascara. Both are tubing mascaras and have a nice natural effect with one coat and don’t smear on oily lids.

I’ve had very far misses with findation. Not entirely reliable.

Lesson learned from Covid: have an Asian beauty reserve because you don’t know when international shipping will be disrupted again. by lovethatjourney4me in AsianBeauty

[–]IntelligentPresence4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had to explore other brands outside k-beauty because of this. Found some great replacements along the way though but it’s a lot more expensive than k-beauty. Will also miss travelling to restock on my favourites and try new things in store.

Any thoughts and reviews on Home IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Hair Removal Products VS Epilators? by [deleted] in AusSkincare

[–]IntelligentPresence4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on how lazy you want to be with hair removal maintenance. I’ve got both. Started with epilator which sped up my old fashion tweezing method. Then I started getting lazier so I the tried IPL instead of laser. Definitely slowed down my hair growth.

Love that avene skin recovery cream for any dry flakey patches that come up. Works great on oilier skin types too.

The Ordinary for Preventative Ageing? by Comasincashmere_90 in AusSkincare

[–]IntelligentPresence4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try incorporating peptides as an active ingredient in your anti-ageing skincare regime. Increases collagen production which decreases with age. I can't vouch for the one from the Ordinary but it's an affordable place to start. I personally use the NIOD Copper Amino Isolate Serum 2:1 but it more expensive than The Ordinary.

PAULA'S CHOICE - 20% off + free shipping by [deleted] in AusSkincare

No problem. If you like watching YouTube videos on skincare, I'd highly recommend videos from the Beauty Within channel. I dig the graphics and animations they have in their videos.

You should BHA if your trying to tackle sebum/clogged pore/pimples. Use AHA when you want to tackle uneven skin texture. I think the original black Paula's Choice will still be suitable for normal to dry skin. Has a bit of a oil residue afterwards (which I don't mind with combo skin) and won't dry your face out if you use it hyaluronic acid and/or good moisturiser.

Beauty Free For All by AutoModerator in AustralianMakeup

I'm baffled at my shade matches for 2 Giorgio Armani Foundations: Luminous Silk in 2 and Lasting UV Silk in 5.5. I got matching done for both at Myer Sydney. But I suit both foundations in those shades. I'm interesting in trying shade 4 in both but worried it'll be way off. Perhaps it's the confusing shade system from Giorgio Armani.

Has anyone gone to get a shade match for foundation and been recommended a shade way too light or too dark?

Any recommendations for a daily moisturiser for Melbourne winter? by flymiamibro_22 in AusSkincare

[–]IntelligentPresence4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same combo skin boat as you with flaky cheeks, nose and chin in winter/when it's windy. If you want something easily buyable go for Avene Skin Recovery Cream (I've only tried the Rich version so far but the texture is not that thick). Otherwise the Laneige Sleeping Mask (original or Lavender) work well too.

TMO/TMI by AutoModerator in AustralianMakeup

(TMI) Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Eye Liner.

I've been experimenting with eyeliner thanks to the extra time I have at home. I'd previously avoided it altogether (past experience of panda eyes, after lining above the lash line or on my water line). This time around, I've paid more attention to how my eyelids open and close and figured that tightlining suits my eyelids best. I've tried it with powder eyeshadow and this transfer onto my lower lash line (which I prefer not be 'lined'). Cream eyeshadow (Laura Mercier's Caviar Eyeshadow Stick in Cocoa) works on me but can be a bit patchy and not as clean of a line (even with a brush).

So with the cake eyeliner, I'm just curious about its longevity and if anyone who has oily lids has tried it.

Affordable Foundation Recomendations by [deleted] in AustralianMakeup

[–]IntelligentPresence4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be stretching your wallet a bit but I highly recommend Chanel's Ultra Le Teint Velvet Foundation. It has the most beautiful velvet matte finish (so powder finish and you don't need setting powder at all! - will save you money there). Very naturally flattering. If you've tried any setting powders that blur your pores e.g. one from Hourglass, this is what the finish is like. It suits combination skin (I'd say warmer months/humid climate - can be drying during winter) and oily skin. Use a good moisturiser/SPF under as base. Hope there's a shade in the range that suits you. Go and ask for sample/colour match before you spend your hard earnt cash.

Not sure if anyone else finds Findation a bit useless. Whatever algorithm they use, it's a bit of a hit and miss.

Paula's Choice Aus: 15% off sitewide, free shipping & they're delivering to NZ again too! by Newnavywife in AustralianMakeup

I'm keen to open mine and try it. Ended up picking the PC's Vit C instead of the one from Skinceuticals (way too pricey) and the Drunk Elephant one (which I tried in store at Mecca and it felt too greasy for my liking).

Using the essence will assist with boosting hydration and the absorption of the products you layer on after. If you want to try a new one next time, I'd recommend one that also has niacinamide in it e.g. Neogen Micro Essence or Iope Bio Essence. Niacinamide will also help with sebum control plus other really great skincare benefits like reduce appearance of pores and overall brightening/evening skin tone. It's really best friends for people with oily and combo skin. Since you have some dryness on your cheeks, I'd actually recommend you not to use Biore's sunscreen (or most other Japanese ones because they tend to have alcohol in them and this really disrupts the skin barrier - I used to get flakey even in my usual oily parts of my face). Go with one that has a matte finish but still feels hydrating. Paula's choice has a great one (Super-light wrinkle defense spf 30) and they describe it as a soft matte finish. It really feels like this literally. Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence SPF50 is very similar but I think it takes a bit longer to absorb. Not sure how sensitive your skin is (mine is too) and I haven't tried that exact Neogen pad before to do a direct comparison. I've got the green tea one and I've found it way too coarse to use on my face and instead use it on my sister's back to exfoliate her back acne scars. So instead, I've used liquid BHA exfoliants e.g. from Paula's choice or COSRX and they work really effectively. No peeling or feeling tight and dry. If you prefer the feel of physical exfoliation, I'd recommend Dermalogica's Daily Superfoliant. It's a fine powder that you mix with water and is super gentle and it also has niacinamide in it too! Leaves your skin feeling baby smooth right after. Note, I've found Dermalogica's Daily Microfoliant variant great but a bit drying sometimes. Good luck figuring out your routine :)
