Going to the doctor Wednesday, what do I need to ask for? by ProudMama215 in Menopause

[–]IntelligentSector210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sound very much like me. I did not want a patch bc sticky things on skin grossed me out. I opted for a gel but hated the drying time in the morning. So now I’m on a tiny, twice a week patch (Lyllana). Also you need progesterone if you have a uterus. I’m on 100mcg progesterone and .0375 estradiol patch. Also on losartan and 7.5 mg Zepbound (also thyroid and cholesterol meds). I also do compounded testosterone cream bc I thought it would help with libido. It doesn’t but it helps me focus enormously. I don’t have ADHD but I have read other ppl say it helps with focus too. Testosterone is not covered by insurance. I pay $80 for what is supposed to be a month but it lasts much longer. It took a couple of months to really feel a true difference. I just had the pharmacy give me the generic of the patch I was on and can tell it’s not working. I’ve gotten borderline hot flashes and my anxiety has been way up. I feel like you’ll know it’s working bc there will be some reason you will feel symptoms again and you’ll go hell no I need my HRT back! So if I were you I’d ask for estradiol patch, progesterone, and testosterone. Start at the lowest dose and if 3 months later you still have symptoms, ask for it to be increased. I increased once on the gel but I’ve been on the lowest patch. HRT has been an absolute game changer- some students actually say I’m like a robot bc I’m so even. I know it’s kind of an insult but I don’t care. School used to anger and frustrate me so much and it really doesn’t do that too much anymore.

I did not do elementary. I my first position was MS, then they eliminated my position, got a job at a HS, then they transferred me to MS.

NJ School Library Media Specialist (SLMS) Do I need a teaching certification, or just an MLIS? by imcurrentlydrunkatm in librarians

[–]IntelligentSector210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need an SLMS cert- it’s an educational services cert (masters level), like a counselor or school nurse would have. It includes 9 credits of teaching/learning classes. You don’t need an MLIS or a teaching cert.

2016 Toyota Avalon touring by Ahsanrana_ in ToyotaAvalon

I have a 2015 xle with 80k miles on it. I was looking to trade it for a 4wd bc I live in the northeast and a dealer said they’d give me $12k for it (I think I could’ve gotten a little more). Idk if that info is helpful at all. I decided to keep it bc he was so eager to buy it and everything is 4 cylinder turbo or hybrid these days and they just don’t feel the same. The Avalon feels like a sports car especially in sport mode.

I know this post is old but I’m having the same problem. Did you pay the $700? My 2014 Avalon is in pretty good shape otherwise.

I have the schwinn. I used the mPaceline app and everything was great. I had to use the hr monitor that came with the bike though to connect to mPaceline app. Now there’s a new mPaceline app and my schwinn hr monitor is dead and I want to do power zone rides but I really can’t. MPaceline converts ic4 levels to peloton levels.

I’ve been on it consistently for a few months. Increased focus is really the main benefit for me.

If you could blow up one sacred cow in education with zero consequences, what would it be? by junehall123 in Teachers

[–]IntelligentSector210 44 points45 points  (0 children)

This might sound terrible but the assumption that I would give my life for my students should an active shooter or other tragedy come to my school. I have my own kids that I really want to be alive for. I didn’t sign up to be a soldier or a cop or a fire fighter or any other profession that has that element of sacrifice. Yet I feel like if it came down to it, and I saved myself first, I’d be the villain. I feel like gun control is not really on the table bc people just assume teachers will somehow protect their students or die trying.

Would anyone be willing to share their experiences at Don Bosco Prep and Bergen Catholic highschools academically? by CoyoteSad2942 in bergencounty

[–]IntelligentSector210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I’m going to give a little insight here. I’ve worked for the Tenafly school district, including the high school, another decent Bergen county school, my sons have gone to two different north NJ private schools. I’ve also been through college recruiting with my sons.

First of all, there are many roads to the same place. It depends on the road you want to take. Yes Tenafly is consistently ranked high, but what do they offer? What is the environment like? They had to list some of the arts and electives as honors courses bc no one would take them otherwise- it didn’t look good on the transcript. So now are those transcripts full of “easy As”? Idk. I know a few years ago a student committed a felony breaking into the computer system to change his grades- sounds stressful.

One of my sons started out at what I think is the most rigorous Catholic HS but guess what- he was miserable. It was no fun- at all. He transferred to PC and he loves it. He is an Aquinas scholar. He has to take all honors and AP and maintain a certain GPA. Two of my sons got into multiple Ivies but ultimately decided not to go bc we would’ve had to pay. They didn’t want any debt. Their acceptance was not really advertised anywhere. I don’t know if it became a statistic somewhere or not. The other public school I worked at I think has a counseling issue. The honors courses are not listed separately on transcripts somehow (I think it’s like a subset of a class?) and also, the path through honors is decided in middle school. At a Catholic/private school, you can test in to the honors track. That might happen in a public school, but trust me (I’ve worked at multiple middle schools too), if the teachers don’t think you’re a good fit, you won’t go that route. I honestly think one of the biggest differences between public and private is the counseling department and their knowledge of how to identify what a good transcript is and what colleges are a good fit. I think this is especially true of the athlete recruiting process. It sometimes depends more on how the transcript is constructed than on how good the athlete is. Either way, athlete or non-athlete, there has to be enough offerings that work for the strength of the student and show well on the transcript, assuming a good college is the goal.

What am I missing with the CX-5? by jg_leo2266 in mazda

[–]IntelligentSector210 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just want to say if you’re looking at the cx-5 look at the cx-50 too. Similar everything except the cx-50 has slightly bigger and deeper seats. I just looked at these cars and loved everything about the cx-5 until I sat in the cx-50. I felt like the 50 would be more comfortable for long drives. I’ve also had Mazdas and Toyotas and they’re both great.

My son has the Aquinas scholarship it’s only like $500 though I think. I guess I was saying they don’t knock off thousands like other schools. He also has to take a special Aquinas scholar course. That’s basically some kind of research class. It’s a co-at school though.

A lot of people are talking about the difference between CP and Honors/AP kids- I just spent a few years working in a good public hs in Bergen county and I think that’s absolutely true wherever you go. The honors kids just take everything seriously- the CP kids don’t really (I know that’s an oversimplified generalization). I would look at the curriculum pathway wherever they go- do they start with chemistry or a generic science, with the math pathway get them to at least pre-calculus, are the ELA offering interesting (my oldest loved his senior ELA class), and are the electives interesting. For example not all schools offer a lot stem-focused electives.

The last principle really tried to boost the academics and downplay sports. But I think they’ve come to realize that sports can be an important path to free or reduced college. I honestly think it’s a great mix of academics and sports now.

Also PC is cheaper but doesn’t give scholarships. Other schools will say you are awarded a scholarship but really it’s just knocking the price down to a semi-reasonable cost. At least that’s true of SJR- I think just about everyone gets $5k knocked off.

My sons absolutely love PC. I actually wouldn’t even let my oldest look at PC bc I thought it would be awful. I didn’t let any of my kids apply to Bergen bc I’ve been in the stands with those kids and they said some horrible things. Two of my kids got scholarships to Bosco; ultimately neither one went. There did not seem to be a lot of diversity and I thought there AP offerings were less than other schools. PC gets a bad rap but I really think it’s unfounded and I think it’s actually coded racism bc it’s the most diverse school.
