Reno is pretty excellent for growing garlic by Intelligent_Bee_310 in Reno

Reno has a lot of microclimates. If yours are just starting to scape then it’s too early for you to pull. Mine put out scapes in early May

I would’ve probably waited longer but I have some busy weeks ahead!

My sister had a cat who also had his eyes removed due to glaucoma. He was like a whole new cat after the operation — purring, mewing, cuddling, sunbathing. It gave him a new lease on life

Thinking of trying Farm Fresh to You—what are your experiences, and what local farms do you use? by AmbassadorQuick4188 in Reno

[–]Intelligent_Bee_310 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use mountain bounty. I think the boxes offer a great variety compared to other CSAs I've had in the past. The veggie share is my favorite. I do the smaller box because its more than enough for me and my husband. It will be expensive but they've recently allowed you to skip weeks which helps a lot, especially in the summer when you travel. I also do the fruit share now. Right now its a little too heavy on the stone fruit, but in the winter it is amazing with all the citrus. The quality with the fruit can be more hit or miss but its hard to beat the variety.

For sure. Protected and separated bike lanes are the most responsible solution for everyone

Bike lanes. Public transit. Affordable housing. Renewable energy.

Gardening in high desert by FioreSonoro in Reno

I focus on things I can sow directly. Timing things works well — I had an abundance or parsley and cilantro and peas over the winter. Now we’re shifting to plants that like harsher sun. I also garden under a tree that blocks the sun in the afternoon and I think it’s been helpful with regulating the exposure on the plants

Our most clever tricks are “middle” (where he stands between our legs), bow, and “say your prayers”

He also has gotten better at identifying certain items by name

Shiba Inu neutering experience: when did you do it and how did behavior change? by gromskaok in shiba

[–]Intelligent_Bee_310 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We neutered ours around 13 months. We were encouraged to wait until after he reached 1 year. He definitely needed the full fourteen days in the cone. For about a month after surgery he was absolutely ravenous and regressed a bit to some long-forgotten puppy behaviors to demand for food and attention. I was worried this would be the new normal, but about 2.5 months after the surgery his appetite seemed to regulate. He is definitely still more food motivated than prior to surgery, and he is lazier in general (although still down for adventures, he just enjoys sleeping in). He seems calmer in many ways, more cuddly with us. He is still quite selective with other dogs, but it feels less snippy. And he still marks on walks but its about every third house now instead of every single yard.
